Either you love him or not but...

He just sinks a great putt on 17, is walking off to the next hole, turns to his right and bends down to shake a young boys hand. The boy then jumps around and turns to his mom(i assume) and you can just tell how thrilled he is.

He gets it, and so do his fans !

Thanks Phil.

I've seen him way off camera at tournaments and that's who he is.  That's how they should all be.

He actually gave that boy his ball as he walked to the 18th tee. Incredible gesture. You could see the little guy jumping up and down and so excited as he turned back to his mother. Phil earns fans one by one and this young guy is no exception. He'll be a Phil fan for life as he will never forget that experience. Phil made an impact on that youngster and hopefully all that saw it. You're right....he does get it and he makes a difference with his actions.

I had the opportunity to follow Fowler on Saturday, and while he doesn't take it to the same degree that Phil does (NO one does it like Phil), Rickie does a nice job of recognizing and appreciating the fans, particularly the young ones.  I was really impressed with Rickie, both his game and his demeanor, on Saturday.  Good kid.

I was fortunate to play with Phil and his brother Tim a few years back, and i must say both of them made it a truly unforgettable experience.  They were just regular guys out playing golf and telling stories.  It was awesome to stand on the same teebox and watch the swing you had seen on tv for so many years.  Intimidating as all get out, but still we could have a conversation about sports and other things.  Truly a great ambassador of the game.

I'll buy into this tripe when he does a webchat and answers my questions directly.  If he has the guts.
Q1) Phil, what's it like to be so great?
Q2) Phil, how's the swing coming?
Q3) What are your favorite Five Guys burger  fixings?
Q4) You really go all out to make golf and the game a wonderful experience for the fans.  You have such an exciting short game and a wonderful demeanor with regard to your struggles with the driver.  Even during a less than stellar start, you're always considered to be in contention for The Masters... what's up with all that?

I demand to know, Phil.  You can face your criticizing public or hide behind the Golf Media, your choice. The gauntlet has been thrown down!

He is the greatest human being of a golfer I have ever met.  he never ceases to amaze me.  I can honestly say that every time I learn anything about him, my love for him grows.  My absolute favorite guy. I hope to be half the person he is.

Did you graduate from high school or are you still work on the GED?  Nice sentence.

The stories of Phil's random acts of kindness are endless.  People have posted them on this web site.  These are first hand accounts and we have seen it on TV.

Phil spends hours signing autographs and especially for kids.  He is smart because he knows those kids will grow up to play golf but I think he mainly does it because he is a nice guy.

Meanwhile - idiots post third hand stories about some guy in the bag room who has a friend of a friend who once walked pass Phil and he did not smile.

Phil is almost a mentor to the younger guys like Rickie, DJ, Sean O Hair and Watney, Keegan, Hunter Mahan and others.  They all like him.

it's simple... he acknowledges people.  if someone says, 'go get em phil'... he smiles and tips the hat.  it's called class, and proper perspective.  some of these guys out there with 24/7 sour pusses on that stare at their feet and ignore the crowd forget who pays their bills.  sure, you don't want to encourage the bad fan that has a loud mouth and being obnoxious, but some of these top players practically push little kids out of the way sometimes and it's just an ego sickness to me.

Any pro who disses the kids is a tool in my book.

That kid will never forget and will have a sour taste in his mouth for a long time to come.

Sure they can't get to every kid, but I'm mainly talking about those times were the pro could extend a hand shake or give a ball out etc.
To just stand there and blatantly ignore the kid? That's just shi**y in my book.

Edit: I've never seen Phil do this. In fact I mostly see him go out of his way to say hi/give a ball out.
He's got little ones so I know there's a big spot there in his heart for kids.
As a Dad I can relate.

Quite possibly the worst post you've ever put up- and that's saying a lot..

Bad guy rep from Tour Pros would shine through?

Yet another bs "friend of a friend told me so" line without any basis of fact whatsoever.

Careful, I heard he possibly has European ancestors as well.

The bottom line is he is as classy as they come- for every 1000 positive stories, you hear a third person recall of something negative. Bit vague on details but "its gotta be true".

And yeah, I can speak from first hand knowledge- the dude is as real and genuine as you see on tv...

Actually, this is a pretty accurate depiction. In fact, I would go so far as to say that EVERYONE has to act nice other people. Otherwise, it's really easy to gain a reputation as an a-hole.

Phil is incredible with the fans, and possibly even better with the Media (something El' Tigre could take notes from for sure).

Among fellow tour pro's, I'm sure Phil is possibly a bit arrogant ... why wouldn't he be.  He's better than mostly all of them could ever dream of being, and he knows it.  However, look at the way the new young guns talk about Phil and how helpful he is with them.  That speaks volumes to me.

My favorite Phil story is from the late 90's or early 2000's ... an incident with a south african golfer who was playing on the PGA tour (Michael something or other.  South African was back at his hotel watching Phil on live TV spin half wedge shots back out of deep rough and hitting quick checking chip shots around the green.  He actually submitted an official inquiry, complaint, etc. or whatever it would be deemed that Phil's grooves had to be illegal ... there was no way he could hit those shots with legal grooves.  A few weeks go by, Phil's clubs get checked out and given the certificate of aproval, word gets out amongst the caddies who the squeeky wheel was, so now Phil & Bones both know who questioned his integrity. He waits until the latter part of the season, Michael something or other is out of the top 150 ... Phil leaves him a letter in his locker thanking him for his concern about his equipment and how important it is to protect the integrity of the field, etc., and by the way, Good Luck at Q-school.

^^^ that's funny!  Phil is one of these phenoms that could have turned out to be just like Tiger.  He beat the pros as an amateur, he has an amazing skill set that other pros can't or won't ever have.  No wonder there is some jealousy.  He even seems to have a happy family life despite all the hurdles.  Jealousy will always be around.

But he does seem like a genuinely nice guy.  A real man that tries to be a mentor and example to kids and other players.  You can't please them all though, and it seems he understands that too.

LOL!  I bet the guy in S Africa had no idea that Phil had been practicing his short game and those wedge shots in his back yard since he was probably 3 years old.

Ditto Bubba trying to hit balls around the corner of his house.

I just laugh at his flop shot on 15 at the Masters this year.  It is just so insane and dangerous with the lake at the back of the green.  I could not believe what i was seeing when he hit it.

His is the only pre-tournament interview that I care to watch. Its quite possible that he is the sharpest guy out there. Very quick-witted with the press, very honest about his problems when they arise. Great with fans, and truly seems to love the adoration they give to him. Top class all the way. My favorite pro by far.

I think Phil is a nice guy but also think he has made a calculated effort to rachet up the niceness, especially after Tiger's image went down the drain.

Sadly Tiger himself made no real effort to wrachet up any niceness.
