I live in the metro Detroit/ Ann arbor area and I was wondering if there were any suggestions of courses to play? I'm not afraid to pay for a good course but at the same time I don't want to break the bank every week. So if there are any suggestions let me know.

The Ann Arbor area has some great tracks, if you can befriend someone at the University of Michigan, Radrick Farms or the University of Michigan course are excellent, other top choices are Stonebridge or Eagle Crest, Leslie Park a muni in AA is good as well.

Timber Trace in Pinckney and Pierce Lake in Chelsea are both good tracks not too far from A2 that won't break the bank.

Pierce Lake in Chelsea, MI is a nice, challenging, and affordable course.

Northville Hills is a nice track that should be in really good condition

I have wanted to play it for some time but they never want to make a tee time for one person and I normally have to go by myself but hopefully this week I make it out there this week.

I don't think you will be disappointed in Northville Hills.  It's a subdivision course, but as far as subdivision courses go this one is very well done.

Some of my favorites that are a little further north/east of you (In order of my preference):

Shepherd's Hollow 1-18 (Clarkston - has 27 holes)
Fieldstone (Auburn Hills)
Dunham Hills (Hartland)
The Orchards (Washington twsp.)
Lyon Oaks (South Lyon)

All of those are demanding courses so better have your "A" game.  If you're more than about a 12 hdcp, or a little wild off the tee, you're probably going to be pretty frustrated playing them unless high scores and losing balls doesn't bother you.  Personally don't like Northville Hills all that much but some of that's because one of my best friends was fired from there after doing a great job for them (cost cutting move).  I won't play there anymore.

Ya I was looking at shepards hollow, the thing I find hard is the travel to them my wife already complains how long a round of golf takes then to add 2 hours of drive time to that makes it a little hard. But I hope to make it that way.

Well sorry to say but Northville Hills is just like pheasant run. The golden fox is a nice track. Similar to northville and pheasant but without the houses.

I find that the houses at NH encroach on the course less than at Pheasant.  You have to hit it pretty far off line to get into a yard at Northville Hills.

You could throw moose ridge into the mix. Very nice track.  The grande in Jackson is nice too

There's a deal going for the grande right now on groupgolfer.   $25 for 18, range balls, and cart.

I haven't visited the Detroit area in a couple of years, but my three favorites that I have played in the area are:

Sheperds Hollow
Moose Ridge
The Majestic

Others that are worth trying are:
The Orchards
Northville Hills (expensive and lots of housing)
Coyote Preserve
Lyon Oaks
Fox Hills - Golden Fox
Fieldstone

Here's a link to photos: Detroit area courses

Some of these photose were taken in late Winter and early Spring just when the courses opened, so don't let the brown grass (e.g. Moose Ridge photos) deter you. It is a very good layout.

I am always looking for anyone for fellow golfers to go with. I normally golf Fellows Creek I think it is the best value course in the area.

UM GC shouldnt be too hard to get on.  Just call ahead and see if there's openings.  Rock some maize and blue when you walk in, make a nasty comment about OSU and you're good.

Really?  I find Fellows to be one of the most overpriced courses in the area for what it is.  Isn't it $45 or $50 to play on the weekends in the summer?

I would also suggest Lyon Oaks if that isn't too far a drive.  A very well maintained county course and you won't see anything but nature.

Not really I think I pay 25 for 18 w/cart and I have a friend that works there so when I go with him it's 5 bucks. You can say what you wants about the course itself nothing beats 5 dollar golf lol

I just played northville hills and I agree you don't really notice the houses, especially on the back nine. Kinda short but very challenging.
