seems like there is a huge amount of hype regarding these new ATV wedges... and since TM has discontinued the xFT wedges,, does anyone know if any tour pro's bag these new wedges yet? the current pics i see show xFT wedges still in the bag..
are these new ATV's just hype? are they too GI?? i suppose the bottom line is if pro's are using them or not..

Has anyone actually tried opening the face on one of these? and played a flop off a hard pan? that leading edge on the retail version sits way too high for any of the pros to use on tight lies

Justin Rose, Sergio, Dustin Johnson, Sean O'hair and others not on staff. These really just came out on tour 4-6 weeks ago. Already have their first win (Justin Rose) unlike a certain golf ball (swoosh) that took over a year (Carl Petterson)

I remember last year, the xFT wedge did not have a great following and ended up in a lot of bags, pro and amateur alike. Just try them before you judge.

I saw one in my club's pro shop today. Looked better than the picture imo. But didn't try it as I have the new Callaway forged drk chrome s/w. I really like it as I am able to hit flop shots I couldn't hit with my last wedge. Great out of bunkers too.

I think I want one of these for a 54- seems great out of bunkers/longer shots. Will probably stick with the traditional 60.

I really don't see the problem. If you really LOOK at the wedge, there are several grinds on the flange for different shot. I think it will work great.

My club pro uses them because he is sponsored by them and he loves them. Also i saw him hit a pretty insane flop with one. I gotta try them.

I  know the pro at my course who is a TM Staffer already Zip Cut that spoiler of the back of his set...said he couldn't open face when he wanted to...IMO they look ok but I can see why some people won't be able to bag them... I think they would be a good 50-56* range wedge but lack the versatility off of hard pan lies that others have noted.  Each to his own.

this topic wasn't about how they play,, there are a few reviews on them already.. and from reading them, it sounds like they play pretty darn nice..

Just played a couple of rounds with he 58 and one round with the 50.
Playing off some soft conditions at this point with too much rain.
Greens are firm and fast though.
All I can say is the 58 SPINS very well. (TM TP Black ball)
Hit a few bunker shots on the range and course. Great out of the bunkers.
Bunkers were all raked. Soft and firm the 58 performed very well.
All I can say is these wedges perform very well.
Just waiting for the 54 to get here. They look great at address.
These most likely well be in the bag for awhile.
For me it is a Winner for Taylor Made. Did I say they spin?

Yeah, no bounce options...not gonna happen.

The reason they dont assign a single bounce is because the grind they used allows for multiple bounces when you hit a chip, a pitch, flop, bunker... There was a video on here of the Bandon trip that explain it a lot better.

does it work?  Well ive hit them at a demo day and hit them off of fluffy lies, tight lies and normal fairway type lies and they felt really solid from every aspect.  I had no problem opening up a 60 and hitting a flop off a tight lie.

The only shot i didnt hit was out of a bunker, and i wouldnt be surprised if they perform well out of bunkers bc they have lived up to the hype in every other aspect.

from what I see it seems a lot of tour pros are gaming them for gap and sand wedges but virtually no lob wedges. I'm curious about the "insane flop" someone's club pro hit with one. It must have been quite the fluffy lie because I could not get the leading edge remotely close to the ground when I opened the face. Sticking with my X Forged C Grind until I can get a custom 588 done.

I hit the 60 at a demo day at my club. This is the only club I'm on the lookout for since I'm comfortable with everything else in my bag. I hit it for about an hour and there is not a thing it DOESN'T do well. Don't judge these until you try them or you may miss out on something really good. I pride myself on my short game and I test wedges pretty thoroughly and rarely buy but this is a solid wedge and it's on order.

Finally saw it in the store and stand by what I said in an earlier thread...it's basically a P-grind.  Not sure if that tail on the end does much.  Been using PM grind Callaways since the X-tour wedge came out.

Play it square for chips on tight lies.  Open slightly for pitches out of the fairway.  Hard bunker, play it squarer, soft sand, open it up and use that bounce.  Flops in the tall rough are easy if you know how to use the bounce.

The only shot I haven't figured out is the uphill lie.  Unless you can swing parallel to the ground, it will dig like a mother because of the leading edge.  Best I can do in that situation is a clean chip.

being a 5 handi myself, i don't need to hear how to use. i alreay know how to play all the shots mentioned, and this wedge works pretty darn well.

Wrong. It has been talked about in other threads.
I have used these clubs for 3 months (54* & 58*). They have been exceptional from all types of lies and for all kinds of shots, including flops from tight lies and hard pan. When you open up the face you are utilizing the heel area where there is no effective bounce. That is why it is ground that way. I switched to them because they work not because I had to by any contractual obligation.
More people here ought to try and play the equipment instead of just speculate without any real club knowledge.

There was about 20 in play a couple of weeks ago on the PGA Tour and about another half dozen on the Champions Tour. These numbers have likely increased since then.
Freddy put one in play about 6 weeks ago and he is a friend and business associate of mine. He does not change wedge models often, This is the first TM wedge he has ever really played.
