* Tommy Gainey will lose his card if he doesn't maintain position in the 4th round. Today he was in good shape and plummeted to 75, a few weeks after a disastrous Sunday 80. A guy like that will miss so many cuts and have other events where he's never in contention that he has to seize opportunity in his "up" events, like last year.

* Today was a success when Webb Simpson failed. I didn't really care about the playoff at that point, although I rooted for Rickie. No apologies for my distaste for Simpson. I'd recognize the vitriol in the Feinstein threads only if Simpson were the topic.

* Rory plays too many cut off shots into the green, with the hold off follow through to the right. He lost the tournament by choosing 7 iron and not 8 iron on 17. Rickie picked 8 iron so no way Rory makes sense with a 7. He needed to hit a full 8 toward the middle of the green, not an uncertain 7 that he instinctively shoved right.

* Rory still makes far too many unforced errors, particularly after great tee shots. That's what differentiates Tiger, who doesn't throw away shots when he's playing near peak. Everybody talks about Rory's drive on 10 last year at Augusta but he got the poor day started by missing long from the middle of the fairway on 1, and failing to save par. Rory isn't a good enough putter to put strain on chipping.

McIlroy getting to Number 1 again was the first headline after football on Sky Sports News. For golf, that's an achievement!

He deserves it also. Rors is a beast. The way he is driving the ball, wow. It seems like he is in the mix at the end of every tournament he's in. I think Rors will be the best player in the world for a long time. That swing of his is just to much. And he's gettign more distance!

Rory off the tee is nuts.  He is a beast.  Crazy.  I would love to see him play a round together with Bubba and Woodland or Garrigus or Quiros.  Monsters!

Great tournament.  Great win by Rickie but Rory and DA made him earn it..

Awsi I enjoy reading your posts. I am curious about the Webb comments. Could you tell us why you feel that way? I am not a fan, and I don't feel that I root against anyone, but something about him rubs me the wrong way. I just don't know why.

Why do people not like Webb? I don't know anything about him but he looks like a nice dude.

I think I saw an interview with Dowd and Webb that just seemed weird. She looks at him like he is the messiah. Almost Koreshy-ish. That"s probably it. Oh well, not my hill to die on. Congrats Mr. Fowler!

Haters gonna hate. (sarc)

FYI for everyone - Rickie and Bubba go to Bible study together and that may inclue all the guys congratulating Bubba at The Masters (Aaron and Ben Crane plus Rickie).  I think it helped Bubba calm down and he is a better golfer.

More on Rickie here.

He is a fine young man and is very respectful of everyone.  He wants to be a good role model to young people and kids too.

The haters look even more pathetic now....

I mean they always did look bad thats why they hate Posted Image

Truth be told. Real people who know golf and athletes know greatness.

Will Rickie be top 10 all time? No.

But he will remembered ALL TIME. Which very many of you wont.

Congrats Yutaka! You deserved it and the many more to come in your career!

I noticed that as well.  You could tell that they're friendly, but that was all business.  Game face time.  You could feel the competition in the air.  It was as if RF was surprised to see Rory, did a little double take, then gave him a, 'what's up?"...as in, yeah, I just stuffed that shot...and I'm here to play today.  Really cool moment in my book.

Sometimes it's difficult to get a proper read on some players simply because we don't get to see them enough.

In watching Ryan Moore today, I have noticed:

His natural ball-flight is a slight draw and, try as he might, he just can't seem to hit a fade.

Also, Ryan is very limited in his ability to change trajectories.  He really struggles with that.

Ryan's short game is rather pedestrian.  He has a one-dimensional approach, and that can really bite him on the greater courses, especially when the conditions are hard and fast.

On top of all this, Ryan is not a very long hitter.  He really must rely on accuracy and finesse to get the most out of his game.

Add all this up and I guess it's easy to understand why Ryan hasn't developed into one of the top Americans on TOUR.

Didn't see this post yesterday, but I think part of his woes are setting up with his hands so low and being so "squat" at address. He's already a shorter guy, but drops even lower in front of the ball, then drops his hands, and has a pretty flat swing. I hadn't noticed how much so before, but on somewhat faster greens the ball is rolling out forever because it's coming in so low. There is no way to play harder courses well when you can't hold the greens. He actually landed what seemed like a number of shots where he wanted to, only to watch them roll away like he had just chipped with a 7-iron.

Is that really in the realms of "lunacy"? It's more than plausible.

Not only is it plausible, it appears to be the most likely option of what's going to happen.

I believe we'd have a better chance of winning money in a lottery, than Rory holding the number one spot in the OWGR for the next two to three years in consecutive weeks.
