I figure someone may be able to learn from my experience.

I started playing 1 year ago and figure I could
learn the basics from books, mags,  dvd's, forums and youtube.
Wanting to save a few bucks I tried and I did learn a lot but
it it is really difficult to know what you are doing wrong and how to correct it.
It all sounds relatively easy but to actually doing it properly is a different story.

I spent a lot of time at the range practicing doing what I thought was correct...but I've found I was not doing things correctly.
After a lot of frustration, I recently started taking some  lessons.
He is telling me  a lot of the same things but more importantly
he tells me what I am still doing wrong and how to correct it.
It really does take time and repetition to learn this stuff and proper guidance has been great for me.

If I had started with lessons from the beginning, I would been much further along
and my practice from the last year would have been much more productive.....and rewarding.
At least now, if I'm doing it wrong, its only a week's worth of time I have wasted.

I hope this helps someone.

PS I've found a good teacher, which is essential.

+1 Good call!  The 2 regrets I hear from vets is not starting younger, and not taking a few lessons yearly.

1 more caveat:  Use clubs you can hit early, and get fit early.  The less accomplished can progress faster if they get 4 - 6 clubs that fit properly.  Yes, the less accomplished are the hardest to fit, but no sense working with clubs that are not effective or that you can't get airborne.
