To those who have hit both, which is more forgiving.... Mizuno MP59 or Bridgestone J40 CB? I have been able to demo the MP59 and thought they were pretty dang forgiving (have played blades most of my golfing life), but no one in my area carries the J40 CB's to be able to give them a swing.

Both are sweet sticks. I think you would be happy with both, but I would go with the 59's if you have no way of hitting the J40's

I personally think 59's are easier to hit, and I've hit both. At address the 59's look to have a little more offset which is perhaps the reason why.

I appreciate the feedback on your experience with these two sticks. I am surprised to hear that the MP59's are more forgiving! The J40's look longer heal to toe to me.

Anyone else have experience with these two irons?

I wish that i could help with this, but find =ing a set of j40's to demo  is very tough in CNY.I have the MP59's & they are a very solid+pretty forgiving iron.I'd love to compare the j40cb,but i'd probably would have to buy them in order to do that though. They would sell alot more clubs,if they put them out there.

That's what makes this hard! I would love to try the J40's as they look near perfect and the price point is much lower. No one within 65 miles has a demo, so I was hoping to hear from people here on their experience comparing these two irons.

I was in the same situation as the OP about 2 weeks ago as I wasn't sure how the J40's would feel compared to the MP59's.

Well, that was 2 weeks ago, and I am now gaming the J40's. I bought the set on a whim, and said what the heck - the worst that could happen is that the irons don't work for me and they go up on the bay. Well, I am glad I took that leap because these irons are absolutely amazing!

For what it's worth, I tried the MP59's with KBS Tour Regular shafts, and my J40's have Project X 5.0 Flighted shafts.

I haven't hit the J40s but the MP-59s were the other set I was looking at before I bought my 69s.  I really liked them bit when I looked at my launch monitor numbers with the pro who fit me (over the course of a couple days) the 69s had better performance for me.  I thought about doing a combo set but had a bad experience with my last combo set and decided not to.  I am a big Mizuno fan now, loving these clubs :)

One of my good playing partners was trying to decided between the exact same two sets  as the OP this season (coming from Ping s56's)..

I the end, he went with the J40's (CB, not PC)

I think coming from Pings, it was a more similar look (of the two choices)....  I, personally, think the J40's look big (for a players iron)...

And having demoed both of these, he liked the added forgiveness of the J40's (I think they play pretty similar, I think he liked the look of forgiveness in the Bridgestones.....  The 59's have plenty of science hidden in a traditional shape...

I doubt you could go wrong with either.

Good luck!  Awesome sets IMO

If you believe Maltby's measurements - not his playability factor algorithm mind, just his measurements - then the 59s are slightly more forgiving than the J40 CBs.  The DPCs have even more forgiveness.  This might be called 'mat forgiveness' though, or 'teed up forgiveness'.  In my opinion, finding the sole grind that fits YOUR swing is the most important thing you can do for yourself and there isn't a measurement for that.
