He made a big donation to charity after he won too.

How soon many of you forget.  :vava:

Playing against the best in their prime.  Faldo, Payne, Norman, Woosman, Seve, Jack and others.

Even back then he was getting treated badly with the 3rd round on 11 where the caddy set the flag down.  Nothing changes.   I think the fans back then were better fans than today.

Crooked Stick looked like my local muni on a bad day.  Not the nicest course.

Lol have you ever played Crooked Stick? I practice there every day. It's in as good or better shape than any of the PGA tournament courses out there. Which is why it got the BMW Championship this year... Pete Dye likes it so much that he still lives on it. Very ignorant statement.

Cool videos.

Kenny Knox.  I hadn't heard that name in a while. The last time I saw him in 2001 he was selling synthetic greens at the PGA Merchandise show.

Crooked Stick a muni?!?

21 years is soon? On Tralfamadore maybe.
You realize your definition of "soon" is now drinking age in every state in the US and over well over it, in a lot of places around the world.
Four Presidents later. The USSR was still not officially dissolved at that time. MTV was still playing videos.
There was no 460 cc driver. The Pro V1 was still 9 years away.
Charles and Diana were married. Nirvana had yet to release "Nevermind."
OJ and Nicole were still still married. Magic Johnson had not announced he was HIV positive.

Reigning PGA Champion Keegan Bradley was 5 years old. Rory McIlroy was 2.
That was almost half a lifetime ago for me. Seems so long ago that it would've felt like yesterday.

It was awesome.  The guy won two majors, so it is hard to argue with that.  He had on and off the course issues, which just makes most of jealous on the waste of talent.

Just a dumb question....

What were the greens running on the stimp back then?  It looks like they had to hammer their putts compared to the greens of today.

Dude, since you practice there every day, could you give us a little update on what we can expect to see when Crooked Stick hosts the BMW?

Are there new tees?  How long from the tips?  What about the greens?  Any re-designs?  Do tell.

Maybe they bought some fertilizer in the past 21 years.  It looked pretty dried on and patchy in a lot of spots.

How was he being "treated badly"  there was a possible rules infraction, they called him the trailer, looked at the video, made the correct decision end of story....it happens several times a year.  Seems like you just have an axe to grind.

Daly has been cut more slack and given more opportunities than maybe any player in history, if it wasn't for this week me may never had made it on tour, never become a legend of sorts.  The guy behaves badly all the time and keeps getting sponsors exemptions mainly because of this one week in 1991....how soon they forget?  Really?  your statements make no sense what so ever.

agreed, when is John Daly finally going to catch a break?

If you look up "hard done by" in the dictionary there is a picture of uncle joey from full house living in the basement failing at his stand up comedy career. Below that there is a picture of JD selling autographed beer cozies out of a winnebago.

Sorry, but with his antics of the last several years, and his refusal to go to Q School, he deserves nothing. And I used to be a fan of his, back in the day, but just can't support his constant bad choices anymore.

Just an FYI, playing golf is a little different than watching golf on TV.  When you actually start playing golf, you will figure out that the perfect lush green presentation that looks good on TV is actually not that great to play golf on.

I've always hoped that "Condescending Post of the Year" would be one that was written by me.
It never occurred to me, to imply that this site was occupied by people who had actually never played golf.  Bonus points for not supporting your position.  If I have any criticism, it would be with the assertion that playing is only "a little" different than watching.  Also, this should've had a boast about the length of your drives.

I love how in one of the videos they discuss the '91 Ryder Cup Team, name some veterans and name some of the "newcomers"...

Among those, Freddie Couples...Posted Image

By that logic, I should've got into university because i won a spelling bee in grade 3.....

All due respect to the guy....he is arguably one of the greatest natural talents to ever tee it up....not just the length, but the guy had some serious touch.....but the fact is, that only goes so far.  IMHO you only deserve what you've earned....in golf anyway.....nobody deserves anything by default.....isn't golf supposed to be the ultimate meritocracy?

This started with how quickly we forget.....I couldn't agree more....how quickly we forget John's temper tantrums and childish behavior.....the fact is the guy has been dining out on a couple of major victories from forever ago for a long time now.....spots in a PGA tournament ain't charity.....he wants them, he should earn them instead of being an entitled little such and such....

Sad that his demons and other issues beat him.  He had a gift from the golfing gods. I watched those videos and I was amazed that a 11th alternate gets in the tourney against one of the strongest fields I have ever seen in golf.  He then beat them all.

Charlie Sheen never won two majors and neither have most professional golfers.  Most of the people posting here never even played in a muni club tournament.

Well, Charlie Sheen was the highest paid actor on television, has starred in Oscar Award winning films and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame... Wait a minute, I'm sorry.  You missed the point of what I was saying, then I pretended to miss the point of what you were saying.

The truth of why John Daly is a draw has NOTHING to do with his Major wins.  Otherwise, Nick Price would boast the same fervent apologists.  As would Padraig Harrington.  (Okay, let's finish the list with Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Lee Trevino. But none of them have made quite the same joke of their careers... feel free to disagree Tiger Haters.)

JD's draw is based on the love of the train wreck.  People can claim to want him to do well, or root for that BUT they know that won't happen. They know the wreck is imminent.  That's part of the appeal.  The train has to build momentum and make you think it won't derail before it does.  Otherwise, there's no tension.  No entertainment value.

John Daly is a joke.  The sad part is, HE is the one telling the joke.  HE is also the one SELLING the joke.  He is profiting from the joke when he sets up his RV in Augusta to sell his junk.  Some of the people who buy, are in on the joke.  Sadly, he takes advantage of those who refuse to believe he's using them for his joke.  John Daly makes more headlines and garners more attention with his blow ups than he is capable of, with his play.  He used to be good.  He used to be great.  He could've been one of the greatest.  He quit on the work of it.

I really feel bad for those of you that refuse to admit it.  Because as much as you might dislike what I write.  The crueler thing is that John Daly is relying on your good faith in him, to finance his next stunt. The stunt he'll use to keep his contract for Loudmouth, etc.  Because when he goes Tin Cup and storms off a course, he's wearing their pants in all the (free advertising) news footage.  He uses that attention to get more exemptions or appearance fees, so he can get free money for his next stunt.  And he needs at least a few people to keep believing he's sincere about competing. Otherwise, he's not Charlie Sheen, he's a Kardashian (or worse Lamar Odom).

At least Charlie Sheen let everybody know that it was all a scam freakshow to keep him in cash. He let people choose to finance and support him with their ironic, laughing, compromised integrity, willingly intact.  He didn't demand people remember Platoon or Wallstreet.  He was honest enough to let them hear "Winning!" and "Tiger Blood!"  It's a more honest dishonest living.

But don't forget 1991. John wouldn't want you to. Even though he forgot what it meant a long time ago.
