I've started to notice I struggle around the 100 yard range where I don't have a steady go-to club.. I feel like I either have to take off with the AP1 GW(50*, full swing 115-120yds) or go at it with my 56* vokey, which usually means I flight it higher with more spin, and it'll come up short. I also carry a low bounce 60* vokey that comes in handy.

Do most guys using stronger lofted clubs use a 50-54-58 setup? Or bend a 56* to 55* and go 50-55-60?

Those are the Vokeys I have as well, but with the PW at 45* on the AP1's, I'd have a 7* gap between PW to GW if I used the 52*..

I dont have AP1's, but I do have a 45* PW and a 50* GW with my set, and use 54* and 60* vokey wedges. Gaps nicely, and you always have the option to bend your 56* to 55 or even 54 to bridge the gap.

I'm assuming you use the 60 for a lot of touch shots near the green, and the 54 for more of the half-swing or 70-80yard shots? I do that with my 56 but I feel like I really have to go at it to muscle it 90-100 yards, and I hate that feeling. lol

I ordered the new ap1's with matching gap.. 54 and 60.. was really on the fence whether to get the 56 or 54 but i wasn't ready to part with the 60 either...

With the AP1 GW at 50* I have a 56* Vokey bent to 55* and a 60* Vokey to round it out. I was at 54* and 58* but the OCD side of me took over and I got the 55* and 60*.

I have 712 AP1's with Vokey wedges. My setup is 4-GW, with 54* and 58* wedges.

I ditched AP2's for Pings, but when I was playing them, I played 4-P, plus their W (gap wedge).  It's 51* and flows really nicely w/ the rest of the set.  Then I played a 54* and 58* Vokey.  That's just what I did.  It worked well.

I think the issue is your gaps.  IMHO you should be 54, 58.

Try the Cleveland wedge fitting tool.  It's on their website and is pretty cool.

I run AP1 712.  After GW I go Ping Tour S 54*, 58*.   The Pings provided the most consistent gaping with the AP1s *for me*.

I had been all over the place with my wedges and NEVER thought of this combo until I did the online thing.  I don't know why.  My wife would tell you it's because I'm stoopid.  She may be right..... Posted Image

I play the AP1 712's and I carry a 52 and a 58 wedge.

I prefer to keep my short game simple, and this works well for me without creating too many decisions on shots inside 100 yards.  I seldom if ever take a full swing with a wedge, so I find it easier to learn the feel and various backswing lengths of just two wedges.

AP1's here PW then 52, 56, 60.  Love this setup I prefer a slight increase in gap between the Wedge and Gap so it doesnt get confusing.

However if I was to change anything I would swap the 52 for a 50.

I have my AP1s bent a degree weak, so my PW is a 46. It carries 135. My 50 Degree Vokey Flies 120. My 54 degree goes 105, and then I have a 58 degree to round out the set.

I play AP1...just switched from original to 712, and play vokeys 54 and 58.  My GW distance is the same as yours 115 full swing.  For 100 yards I grip down to the steel and that gives me 100 with a normal swing.

I play AP1's, but I have an AP2 PW 47* or 48*.  It makes for a nice pitching club around the greens with its smaller profile.

I go directly to a 56* SW - I like to keep things simple and focus on just hitting the PW and Sw as well as I can.

With the PW, I can use a 9:00 swing to hit the ball what would be a 52* gap wedge distance.

AP1 712s in the bag.
Using the GW @ 50*, then Mizzy JPX Wedges 56* and 60*.
The slightly bigger JPX wedges match up GREAT with the AP1s from visual and playability standpoint. Love this setup.

So it seems like most everyone here with the AP1's in the bag uses the ap1 gap wedge as well. What do you like about it vs say a vokey 50? I saw that the vokey tvd is not available in the 50*. Any pro's or con's for both?

I use an SM4 50* and love it.

I have the AP1 PW, GW.   I also have 52 56 60 Vokeys.   Depending on the course I play, I will normally pick two out of the three of the 52 56 60.

I go 55 then 60 to create the 5 degree gap, gives me 3 wedges without having more than 14 clubs. I actually like the GW they offer a lot

I originally took the GW out but after practicing my chipping with it at home, decided it's got a great touch to it around the greens and sets up perfect with the 54, 58 setup. I feel all the gaps are covered nicely.

I don't have ap1's, but my ap2 712's are bent one degree strong with a 46 degree PW. My wedge setup is 50, 54, 58 and I love it. I used to play 52, 56, 60. I like hitting full shots with my 58 much more than my old 60. M PW goes 135, 52 maxes out at 125, 54 about 112, and 58 flies 100. I think this setup may help with your gaps. Also, I think you can do anything with a 58 that you can do with a 60.

I didn't like the GW that came with the set, so I replaced it with a Cleveland 588. Now I play PW-45*, 50*, 54*, 58*.

Same as most people with the Ap1 712's.  I use the AP1 GW (grip down a little for the 100 yard shot). Then go Vokey 54, 58.
