Yep, it loses its luster. This week should be interesting to see how it goes.

Definitely needs to go to a monthly system, though the back and fourth seems quite interesting when it's something like Forumula 1 rankings.

Someone needs to start dominating something. I'm really starting to not care at all who's #1.

I hate this back and forth and I think but i'm not sure that Mcilroy can get it back after this week. Somebody anybody has to start dominating or at least separate themselves

Rory's your man.  Can you believe we are coming up on May, and Rory has only four starts on TOUR this year?

I think as he begins to play more often, Rory will separate himself a bit.  He's gonna win one of these big tournaments soon.

I think Rory is quite clearly #1, he just hasn't played enough for it to show...

2012 on the Tour he's 2-1-3-T40

Bottom line is that McIlroy would clearly be dominant at this point if he played more. I think that girl has him all screwed up.

I'm glad Luke had a strong weekend considering his poor thursday. I hope he keeps up the strong play and wins a couple events this year. I'd like to see him hold onto the number one ranking.

Seems like Luke is just competing against himself lately. Would almost be funny if Rory continued not to play and see if Luke could manage to lose than win back the #1 spot again. Either way I don't see why people are so bored over it? I think this is much better than one dominant player! It's not like there are 20 guys just passing the #1 spot back and fourth, it's really between Luke, Rory and to a certain degree Lee, which obviously are the two/three best players right now and are very close to each other in the rankings.

Seeing 2 or 3 guys competing at the top, trying to establish themselves as the true number 1 is great. How it's "less interesting" is beyond me.

He played the exact same schedule up to this point last year (minus Malaysia), before he met Wozniacki. He's been with her around 9/10 months and has won 3 times in that period together with being far more consistent, if anything being with her has improved him.

He's playing 4 of the next 5 weeks anyway (Wells Fargo, Players, BMW PGA and Memorial). I roughly calculated that he needs around a top 5 this week to get #1 back.

I really don't understand how people enjoy domination by a single person, I cared less about World Number 1 when Tiger monopolised it than I do now. Competitiveness is good in most sports.

All the fan boys better hope Rory hits it close to the hole...his putting is not dominating by any stretch.  Now LD, different story.  Talk about getting ZERO love, LD winning both money lists may never be done again!

Agreed. And I don't feel as if rory is number 1 right now. Hasn't played much and had a terrible performance in the masters. So far this year is a let down from him.

Honestly, I find the "race to #50" sometime to be more compelling.  Those are the guys that are fighting for Major invites and cushy WGC paychecks.  Getting to #1 is a great milestone, but really there isn't much difference between 1-10.  Between 50-60 though....that's a different story.

Players are ranked based on their play.  Luke has been a real top 5 player for a couple of years now.  Sorry to be a downer.

Interesting, Luke has 45 weeks at number one.  Rory has 4.

Two of Rory's weeks were awarded during periods where he didn't even play.
I like Rory. I like Luke.   Rory DOES have a major that Luke doesn't BUT if Rory wants to claim number one, he needs to play and earn it.  I worry that right now Rory's head is more focused on being WozIlroy.
Luke has done what he has need to do to earn it.  So, until Rory TAKES it back.  Looks more like Rory is #1 x 4.  Luke is #1 x 45.

+1

Luke is by far the most consistent player on tour.  Period.  He just doesn't miss fairways and greens for the most part, and when he does, he almost always snuggles it up close to the hole.  But Vin, facts shouldn't get in the way of a good argument!   :good:

However, Rory's mind is elsewhere.  He's young, rich, and got athletic eye candy on his arm.  He's enjoying his life.  No fault in that...if you're into that kind of thing!  :D

I think if you could look at their posts in threads relating to an Eldrick T  Woods, you would find the reasoning of their opinion!
