Interesting. Michael Collins doesnt seem to be buying it. Tiger is just making an effort to connect with fans. Hes typically been great about press conferences so why would he all of a sudden by trying to skip out on one as Collins seems to be suggesting? I think Collins is a bit off base with that.

Why is he skipping the press conference to do this? It's not like they are mutually exclusive....

Glad to see he is  trying to interact more with fans online these days, he was a bit behind in that regard compared to a lot of other players.

Right or wrong ??  It appears on the surface to be a step in
the right direction, but may be another attempt to help rebuild
Tiger, the brand .  Marketing, more for sponsers sake than
fanbase !!! M. Collins looks to be spot on with the bull  comment !!!

I'll be taking questions exclusively from the GolfWRX community when I get home hammered and covered in welts and goose poop at 3:30 am tomorrow morning. Normally, I'd have face them from my wife but I feel like shaking up the paradigm. So cool it, honey.

if they want to read a predetermined script and pretend to have a real compelling interview, I'd rather not waste my time or their time with nonsense.  We already have hollywood exporting this product to the rest of the world.

Frankly, I would rather listen to him field "scripted" fan questions than the predictable junk the media would ask.

If you already know what the media is going to ask, as well as Tiger's "stock" answers, then it is the same boring press conference.

The media members are upset because they can't interrogate him for kicking his club at Augusta, and asking how his knee feels for he 2,001st time.

Tiger brings a breath of fresh air to an otherwise stale media day.

Yeah. It's not one or the other. He can do both. He doesn't want to do the media, this is just an excuse.  It's like saying "I can't shave today because I'm going to brush my teeth."
Really, I can brush my teeth AND shave afterward or vice versa.  I just hate to shave.

But, it would be funny if 1000 people all submitted ""I need you to do me a huge favor. Can you please take your name off your phone?"

One of the other players, or even a caddie, should show up in the press room and volunteer to answer the questions toward Tiger. Pick the right guy and it would be a howl, making Tiger look even more petrified and idiotic than he does now.

Not surprising. When you fail to comprehend early in your career that the sports media wants to be on your side, you'll shun them and build joint animosity, leading to unnecessary decisions like this. The sports media isn't awkward or terrified in its approach, merely willing to sit back and react to Tiger's clumsy moves. This choice, in particular, should prompt some marvelous critique.

The sports media was never gonna be on tiger's side, that's crazy. They build stars up and tear them down just so they have something to write about.
