I understand that RF is playing a Ping 4-wood, but I'm unsure of the model. Anyone have any color?

Wouldn't surprise me a ton, there were pictures a couple of weeks ago with him hitting one of the new Super Hybrids from Adams.

He would be great on PING staff with Bubba and Mahan, I also think they should get Crane and use the "Golf boys" to advertise the brand, PING is the best.

I agree!  Ping could get really crazy with those commercials but it's not going to happen anytime soon.  RF will be a Cobra/Puma guy for a long time after inking that huge deal.

I don't think RF would leave Puma or that Puma/Cobra would let him go.  They are pretty much banking on him being a stud and their face on tour.

Was watching On The Range this evening and they mentioned that Bubba had ping ship him a 3 wood down to Isleworth last week after playing with RF who was messing around with one. Of course they then went on to say Bubba was just going to play a 12 and a half degree "4 wood" instead. Doesnt sound like any 4 wood ive ever seen lol.

I don't understand how a 12.5* is a 4 wood? I was watching that show as well and was real confused about that statement.

It's on the range. God only knows what they think a 4 wood is.

Apparently he plays a 16 or 16.5 cranked something like 3 degrees open. Don't ask me how that adds up to 12.5 but it definitely lowers the effective loft.

Maybe it's a specially selected 16 degree 4 wood head bent 6 degrees open, that would make it about 12.4 degrees effective loft.  That's probably the only way he can keep it from seeding the clouds!

EDIT:  ^^^^^^^^We simul-posted.  Every degree open lowers effective loft approximately 0.6 degrees.

Protofish, you live in Florida or just randomly hooked up with him somewhere? Suppose there's always the pro-am route, too.

I imagine the comment on on the range was referring to the i20 3 wood.  I guess Rickie switched or maybe was just testing it out during practice rounds or whatever.  Bubba seems like the kind of guy that won't really switch equipment that often and probably doesn't keep up with Ping's new releases unless his rep force feeds it to him.

Yes. They said RF was using a 3w. Bubba was impressed and ordered the 3w but it was flying off like a bullet so he went with a 4w that was bent to 12.5.
Makes me wonder what that 3w that was shooting bullets was at.
But it does reinforce the notion that the pros use stuff we don't.  It also demystifies the notion of a 285 yard 4wd shot. (Though I couldn't hit 285 with 12.5* wood if I paid it and tried all night long.)

You're absolutely correct. When Golf Digest did a WITB for him, it was interesting to see what he chose from their line and that he still plays his old wedges that aren't Cobra. I guess the Rusty's aren't 'trusty'

I would take whatever comes out of Micelli's mouth with a grain of salt. Actually, I would recommend just not listening to any of his slobbering jibberish.

I left more confused after watching that On the Range segment.

Its 15 degrees, he wants to hit it 265-285 yards.  I think 12.5 would go too far.

The only episode I watched, he was talking about someone switching shafts. He full on went out of his way to never mention what it was, and just kept talking and talking and talking. I just turned it off, and I've yet to watch it again since.

I was thinking the other day that PING has established a very good stable of winning players. BUbba, Mahan, WIlson, HUH, Louis O,

I think adding Fowler would really slow their role.

Ping has 3-4 of the top ten in the world right now.

Maybe I will have to try some of their stuff next time I am looking for clubs.

EXACTLY!!!!! For starters it's a show called "On the Range" yet 90% takes place in a studio. I watched like 2 episodes before bailing. "Bowstache" was going on about Nick Watney and he was having driver problems so he changed shafts, when then didn't work he changed driver heads. NO mention what he was playing, what he tried, what he didn't like about his previous set-up. I don't get it. The whole channel is one running infomercial for OEM's....yet the one time people actually want to hear about gear, they go out of their way to NOT mention it.
