First off I'd like to say that I'm new to AJGA. This will be my first summer playing in them.

I'm trying to sign up for the Gary Gilchrest in Ringgold, GA. The projected field size is 96- 24 girls and 72 boys. There are 98 boys trying to get in and about 40 of them are exempt. Does this mean that there are 26 alternates? How do they choose who gets to play?

All help is appreciated.

As far as I know it is based on exemptions and performance stars. I think a certain amount of performance stars equals a exemption. Who ever has the most PS gets in first. Again I'm not totally sure if I'm exactly right so you can read up more on it from these links... Link 1... Link 2

I played in the PBE Qualifier for stars only. Shot 67... In the practice round. Shot like 80 in the real round. That course was tight and I was spraying the ball in the real round.

Great playing man! What state are you from? Do you play in SJGT or USJGT?

There aren't specific scores to get in, but you have to earn stars to enter tournaments. Most tournament scores range from 80-65

I played my first event in April 2012, as a 14 year old. I played 3 last year but I'm going to play a full season this year and here on out.  You have to become a member and then yea sign up, but they take the top the 75ish with the most amount of stars

You play in performance based entry qualifiers, or play in other tournaments that offer stars.

Mch is right, certain events like qualifiers, and sometimes non ajga events offer performance stars like certain SJGT events. I shot in the range of 67 to 80 in tournaments as a 14 year old

I'm literally about to leave my room right now to go warm up for round 1. The course is nice but super tight and difficult. Even would be a good score today.

Hi all,

My name is Roseanna Smith and I'm VP of Communications for the AJGA. I'd like to recommend that you call our Player Services department (770) 868-4200 to discuss PBE (how to get into events) and any other questions you may have. Navigating junior golf can be tricky, but our staff works with many parents and players each day (members or not) to look at factors like age, scoring, location, etc, to recommend some pathways and questions to consider. Feel free to call or send us an e-mail at ajga@ajga.org to get some help!

Roseanna
