What a joke. 4 hours of TV coverage a day that is bombarded with useless commentary and studio interviews. So I come here to get my Masters fix and I'm supposed to sift through 50 pages in ONE thread?! There are MANY different stories at the Masters, deserving MANY different threads, yet the mods try to sweep it all under one rug. Just a lazy and BS way of hiding inevitable Tiger threads and other controversies that arise.

Every topic that has anything to do with The Masters being locked and referred to the preappointed Masters Discussion thread?
Maybe there is something that I would really like to comment on but interesting aspects are all lost when we have to sort through 48 pages of people talking about unrelated topics that fall under "The Masters" umbrella.

Are there any other options here?

I'm sure this one will get launched somewhere else as well but generally I find the constant almost rampant moving of threads on this forum quite annoying. I can understand the obvious wrong forum stuff but so much more seems to make little to no common sence. The biggest issue is apparently once it gets moved your tracking stops in places.  I guess it makes sense to someone.

The Mods are just concerned that the threads are going to go nuts !!!
Somewhere in a dark and damp room, a Mod reads a topic starter like,
Tiger, Foley, Punt Kick 9 iron , and decides there will be no posts  of
this kind  on my watch. Can't say that I blame them !!

I posted the following within the masters thread earlier today-

"Am I the only one who finds it annoying that every discussion topic relating to the masters is closed and directed to this thread? There are lots of different things to talk about- how's champion's tour Freddy doing, how's Tiger doing, what was up when Phil tightened his driver, how's rory doing in light of last year's collapse, can dufner keep it together, can sergio keep it together, hey, look at 48 year old vijay, etc. If you're interested in one or some of those, you gotta come here and wade through zillions of posts and can't really follow the conversation. Is there a reason for this?"

Ya, I understand what you're saying. I know the Masters is a huge discussion starter, but I really wish they wouldn't put it all under one umbrella. It deserves better than that. Even though I'm upset with how Golfwrx has handled this, it doesn't take away the fact that this is the best golf site the internet, and I just expected a little more. It's really your fault Golfwrx for setting such high expectations! Posted Image

Also, in the Masters discussion, there must be 20 pages of 4 or 5 guys having a pissing match.

Many of our members record the tournament and watch at a later time, so we honor their requests to minimize spoilers -- this is a longstanding GolfWRX policy in response to the membership.

Topics with spoiler titles will be closed/merged.

Duplicate topics will be closed/merged.

Topics not in compliance with our Goals & Rules & Terms will be closed.

So titles like "When will Snead fire his coach?", "Hogan sucks", or even "Demerit!!!" are almost always spoilers for the tournament. Something like "Byron Nelson at the Masters" does not have a spoiler in the title, although it would require a **spoiler** warning because of its content.

Now that I've used the proper anti-spoiler format (I hope), may I ask why my previous thread was deleted?  It says that it has been moved, but to where is the question?

When I click on the link to its purported new location, I get a message that I am not allowed to go there.

Anyone? Bueller?

Me 2 (or 3?); I just posted such a thread in Tour Talk, but it was "moved".  Now, it is MIA.

I understand and appreciate the anti-spoiler measures, but many of the thread closings/"movings" have been completely unrelated to spoiler prevention.

I was going to comment on the "activist" moderation thread, but the link is a dead end.  It has been getting a bit bizzare with some of the moderator moves.  The separate threads are easier to find then the one "mega thread" everything gets moved to.  This is my first complaint about moderator actions in all my years on the board.

i don't know what thread you started but people are too hard on the mods.

During a tourney like the Masters where there are so many users on the site, there are a ton of shot specific or situation specific threads that get started it really cripples the tour section and makes it unreadable.

we don't need threads like "did anyone see Tiger blinked on the 13th hole?

Just to be fair, I have to report that my "moved" thread did finally appear somewhere else; it is no longer MIA.

However, it was locked since a similar thread already existed in that section.

No. You're not the only one annoyed. I think a lot of people are. I actually started a poll earlier today addressing this (The General Masters Topic thread was only 48 pages (!) at the time).  It was deleted pretty darn quickly.  (WHO IS MODERATING THE MODERATORS?)

This site is usually pretty fun, interesting, and informative but they've shanked the ball pretty hard with The Masters topics.
The whole overzealous relegation to the ONE THREAD TO RULE THEM ALL and the excessing locking/moving of threads has pretty much made this NOT the best source for Masters updates and talks.

Hopefully, this will be a teachable moment going forward.

It seems that this happens often during majors.  Perhaps wrx could have a category for the current major for all major tourney topics to be discussed.

I feel that some of the threads that were started should have been locked but some should have continued.  40 or 50 pages covers a lot of topics and it gets hard to follow certain developments.

I'd like to hear what some of you think.

Unfortunately, it isn't just during the majors.  I've been noticing much "over-officious" moderation for quite some time.

Does it save server space if there are fewer topics, even with the same number of posts?

99.9% of moderation is done because of REPORTS from MEMBERS.   So if you are looking for answers, you better ask the silently majority.  With close to a million unique visitors a month, the moderators are reactive to Member reports and rarely if ever are proactive. The times they are, it is from past precedences or specific member issues.

This is a moderated forum and freedom speech is moderated here.  This will not turn into a free for all forum such as the past golf channel or digest forums.  There are plenty of other boards to grandstand at.

Gx,

Thanks so much for chiming in.  I don't think that I have ever taken a moment to say thank you to you and/or the rest of the site's ownership/management, so please accept my thanks for starting and running such a great site.  It has honestly enhanced my enjoyment of golf, top to bottom, as both a participant and a spectator.  Because GolfWRX is such a great site, I want to contribute to its continuous improvement as much as I try to contribute quality content; I think that this is the best golf site there is.

That said, I certainly have no issue with moderation of grandstanding, personal attacks, and the like.  Also, I fully agree with the silent majority that keeping DVR/TiVo users safe from spoilers (in topic titles) is a worthwhile goal.  However, it seems that I am not alone in feeling that it is undesireable to have to sift through 60+ pages of a single Masters thread in order to discuss the likely dozens of minor topics of interest to my fellow members and myself.

For example, I noticed that someone started a thread regarding the apparent lack of "minimal commercial interruption", which has been a Masters tradition, during this year's coverage.  Personally, I agree with that assessment, and would like to note my agreement and add that I don't recall hearing any of the green jacket-wearing gentlemen utter that particular phrase this year.  Unfortunately, I can't do so without reading 60+ pages to find with whom I can converse; it just isn't worth the effort, for me.

Thanks again for all that you do here.

A couple of comments from me on this since it also annoyed me that relevant and topic specific Masters threads were being swept into the mega-thread.

1) People who browse "tour talk" when they have recorded a tournament they have not watched is just not very intelligent if one wants to avoid spoilers.  Perhaps they should limit their browsing to the equipment sections or avoid the site altogether?  But OK, it seems these types of people are going to get their way here.  That's fine.

2) Why not make a sub-forum for the majors where we can have multiple threads about the tournament?  Put the spoiler warning on the sub-forum link and then people who have recorded and not watched can stay away from the entire sub-forum but enjoy other sections of golfwrx spoiler free.

Then a few days after the major ends the threads could be released back to tour talk and the sub-forum closed.

The mods could continue to monitor the sub-forum for frivolous threads and lock or delete threads like "Tiger blinked on the 13th tee" but keep threads like "Oosty's Albatross on No. 2."

Just my opinion.
