If I showed up to my weekly game with a neon yellow flat bill, I would be no better off in life.
If I showed up in said hat and some bright blue pants, i would be decidedly worse off in life.

So why look like a fast food-tour de france combo on the golf course?

Must be to sell some swag right?

There's this one overrated player on tour, looks like a different colored lollipop every time he steps on the course....seems to work for him. Likes to hit balls around oranges....

I like Hunter Mahan's game. I think he has a good chance this week with a low round tomorrow, and in all the other majors this year the way he has been hitting it. But that get up today?  Wow he looked like he was on a last place roller derby team.

Yeah the neon colors are a bit much... What's worse is when you see someone on Sunday at your local course in that get up... At the same time I like some of IZOD's new color scheme's. Can't argue with Hunter Mahan's game though. Rickie on the other hand... dramatic pause and..... more dots. Either way he can dress like a clown if he wants but he will still take 99.9% of us to school.

I would never wear a flat brim myself as they just don't sit right.  I've got nothing against them - certainly Ricky Fowler can get away with it and they look fine, but Mahan's look terrible.  I think they make him either look like he's got a pinhead or a cap 5 sizes too big.

I didn't mind the rest of his outfit, but that Ping/UA flat brim is terrible.

Back the the original question, I think it's more about the player making the clothes marketable rather than the other way around.

But he is making the money

I like most of the new "outfits" and colors on tour. Not a fan of the flat brim hats though. But I'll take the new fashion over those ridiculous oversized shirts that used to have sleeves past the elbows a few years ago. Talk about looking stupid.

Change that 99.9% to 100% and you will have an accurate statement.  Nobody on this site earned $2 million+ playing golf last year.

Foolish clothes, no.  Fly clothes, yes.  Id rather see some flare.  Except those skinny pants Adam Scott wore the other weekend.  WTF was he thinking.

since we are talking about fashion, ill just throw this in the ring. I cannot stand the look of the oversized visors that bubba watson and others wear. They look like something you'd see an old lady wearing.

Saw guy at the gof course in a very tight bright orange puma shirt, and flat bill hat. He was 40lbs over weight and in his late 30's and looked like a fool. I had to ask him"did you lose a bet?" his playing partners lost it laughing.

Answer to the title.... Yes.

Why the heck not. Sometimes these crazy things set the trend. White belt....? Really?  Who the heck cares. We need some good golf whatever they wear. Though, if I ever think of a modern famous Brit that plays golf.... Ian Poulter comes to mind.... not the greatest golfer.... but I remember he wears some crazy stuff IMO, even with all the supers star brits ahead of his golf standing, he still comes to mind.

Guarantee that if you go into the "fashion" forum on this site, you'll have people asking "What's hunter wearing?"  or "Where do I get a lime green belt??"

I'm sure he makes more money from Puma than he does on Tour.

14 top 10 finishes in 68 total event starts and one 2nd place finish in 2011 is not overly promising. He's the modern day Sergio.

He only has a few more years to dress like a tool and get away with it.

As you can tell....not a fan.

Every couple of years, something new pops up and starts a new debate. Remember when Lindeberg came out, some10 years ago? The khaki pants and striped shirt traditionalists were out with their pitchforks. Since then, the trend has gone to a more athletic look and fit (as have some golfers). Fashion reflects where things are going, not where they've been. I for one don't like khaki pants, especially the front-pleated ones. I don't care if someone wears a shirt that looks like an ad for Skittles, but hey. Your money, your choice.

Well-endowed lassies should then wear t-shirts that read: "Bright Lights, Big Titty"?

Its flare and style.. they want a different look.  Bright colors are hugely popular right now and not just on the golf course.  If you don't like them, don't wear them.  Don't knock someone else for being an individual and having their own style.  They probably think your Dockers are boring, have no sense of imagination and make you look like a sloppy businessman on casual Friday.

If you don't like the flare, go watch the Sr. Tour.

I don't have anything against Khaki, but it is pretty boring now and I don't even own a pair of shorts or pants.  I like black white and grays with patterns and without.  I wear a lot of the Adidas FP stuff and I like the bright colors.  I don't have any orange pants or anything, but I will probably pick up some shorts that are brighter.  To me bright shorts are less "gawdy" than pants.  If people feel good about wearing something, then by all means they should wear what they want to.  I'm pretty flashy at times but I'm also in shape and can play.  I smirk a little bit when I do see the 40lb overweight guy that sucks decked out in Puma, but at the same time he can wear whatever he wants to.  It is also an age thing.  A lot of the members of this forum that are in their 40s and older I can see not liking the louder clothing.  My sister got my dad the outfit in my avatar (Puma tech plaid shorts and a louder blue shirt and a white belt for X-Mas) and he looked great.  My brother in law and I were both talking him up the whole round and he shot a 39 on the back nine which is best 9 holes by a long shot.  He had one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf in his life that day.  So my point is people can wear whatever they want and you can wear whatever you want. The game has changed a lot in the 21.5 years I have been playing it.  It's ok. ;)

And to the OP...you call out loud clothing and then use the term SWAG...Posted Image

Reminds me of the guy in the white pants thread bashing white pants and new style and then calls a 60 year old man a BRO.  LOL  I tell you, you kids, these days.  Posted Image
