I am sure many of you know that I am in love with the Callaway proto's and I have several sets in stock pile because they are that good.  BUT the J-40 cavity back irons are really pure irons.  I have them shafted with Steel fiber, and they just flat out perform.  I was looking for a set of cavity back players irons to start out the season with and then when I feel like I have my stroke on move back to the proto's, but I am not sure I will move back.  I am note really sure why they are not touted more, and they are not that expensive.  Really they should move the price up, because maybe they are overlooked because they are considered too cheap.  I am pretty sure they are Endo forged, but they feel as nice as anything I have hit including EPON, MIURA, and my proto's

I concur with the softness of hitting the J40 irons (I shafted with the Nippon shafts in stiff flex) and aren't those irons look beautiful cosmetically! Just a pleasure for the eyes!!

+1

I have mine shafted with DG SL S300 and I simply love them. Maybe I'm partial because I'm on my third set of Bstone , but I can honestly say that I cannot find anything that outperforms my J40 CB . Very underrated company, specially here in Italy, but don't spread too much the hipe or maybe I'll have to pay an higher price on my fourth set of Bridgestone ....!!!!!

i have the stock px 6.0 in mine and have never had a better set of irons, i was always a mizuno blade guy and i can honestly tell u these feel as soft as anything iv ever hit!   i can work the ball any direction or height and still very forgiving.  imo there is nothing in the market even close to the total package that these clubs are!

... Going back to MR23 US Spec and Z101s I owned, golf forum members have been aware of the quality of Bridgestone irons, even if they were calld Tour Stage. J33s sat on the wall of the few shops that carried them, and all the variations since have suffered a similar fate. Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith do not carry them in the Chicagoland area, and the one shop that does sells very few sets. The man on the street is barely aware that Bridgestone even makes balls. Until Bridgestone does a major ad campaign, their irons will always be an amazing niche product.

Dam!  I may have to buy these... :man_in_love:

If you have hit both, do you mind describing the difference between the Dual Pockets and the reg CBs?  Looking at the lofts, offset, bounce & grind seems to be a "mixed bag" between the two.  Doesn't appear that one is "the players" club.  Freddie is using the Duals.

Cheers,
Tim

J40 Cavity Backs are awesome, I've got them with the stock PX 6.0 flighted which I love.   Solid, soft, responsive, and great looking.  They give me a lovely high but low spin ball flight.

Every time these come up in a topic, i say the same thing... they are the best irons on the market right now.    If i was in the market for new irons, i wouldn't look anywhere else.

I hear nothing but good things about these irons from better players, kind of remind me of the Cobra S3 Pro Combos in the sense that they fly under the radar as highly under estimated performers. I agree, I would game these in a second...BB

The clubs look fantastic!  It is frustrating that even in So Cal I cannot find a set to look at, hit or demo.  Bridgestone, if you want to be in the US market...Be In The US Mkt...go all in.

I have a set on order.  I have been a Mizuno guy, and I was blown away by these when I was able to demo (luckily, a local shop does have 6 iron demos).  I agree with the others that have mentioned the price, as I was shocked to find out the total when compared against offerings from Titlelist and Mizuno that didn't measure up in my mind.  The only negative I can find is that they currently don't offer C-tapers as a shaft option, so I went with DG and figured I could change out if that doesn't work.

Do I sense several sets of proto's on the market soon? Posted Image  My current favorites that I do not own..

But, I do want to try the J40's because I pull for the underdog's. The price is more than right, but I would have to order without a fitting which seems to be a no-no around here..

How would you compare them as far as feeling/distance/trajectory to the cally protos?

Also, ever hit the 09 x forged? How do they compare to those? I have been looking into the J40s. I like their "meaty" look and if they are as good as I think they are I may seriously give them a go. Thanks!

I do not think they really compare to the proto's but I do think the razr forged is a fairly close comparison. I took both of these, 6 irons with PX 6.0 Flighted on the course to play a round. I found the Cally to be a very good stick but the J40 CB felt more solid, had better turf interaction and a much more boring trajectory, which I love.

I played the back nine that day mostly with my Ping I20 driver, the J40 6 iron and Craze putter and shot 2 under.  I could manuever that six iron to manipulate most of the distances needed. Probably one of my best iron ball striking days in a long time.

So I went home, went to my watch list on ebay, and bought the J40 CB 4-PW with PX 6.0 Flighted brand new for $499 delivered! Definitely the steal of the year for me so far. I also agree with BB, this club and the S3 Pro are very underrated.

I have a set of the J40 Dual Pocket's and like them.  The DP's have a larger blade than the J40 Cavity Backs, and are noticeably more forgiving.  For people that prefer a blade like set up the CB's are the way to go.

Sorry to jack the thread but what are C-Tapers? I've had KBS, Rifle, Project X flighted, DG S, and Nippons and found things I love with them all. Just curious what C-Tapers do for your game...Thanks!

C-tapers are a newer offering from KBS that are supposed to be a low launch / lower spin iron shaft.  For those that love the KBS tour feel but the higher launch doesn't fit the need, this is supposed to be the ticket (with the emphasis on "supposed").  There are quite a few threads with very favorable reviews to date.

As for the dual pocket vs the cavity the DC's have a higher trajectory and are slightly larger. Have to say they are the best irons on the market I play the cb and out went the mizuno's
