I've got a switcheasy eclipse right now.  Good case for $20.  The Speck Candyshell is also a pretty good pickup if you want good protection without a lot of bulk.

I've always been a fan of otterbox stuff too.  The defender is awesome but bulky.  The commuter is still quite good while being smaller.

I love my incase from Best buy.  Cheap, it works, and you can still fit it in your pocket.

Speck Candyshell is good but just know the plastic below the home button will always break..

LifeProof is by far the best case.  It is completely protected.  Water proof, dust proof, shock proof this case is a little on the high side but well worth the $80 you spend on it.

All depends on how much protection and what kind of case you want; the more protection you want means having a bulkier case -- some people need it while others want something more streamlined.

I have too many:
CaseMate Barely There are the best slim cases I found.  They have a bit of texture and don't wear out like cheap plastic ones.  CaseMate also makes an Aluminum Barely There, they are sweet.  They also have one that I use for going out, holds a few bills, an ID and another card within the back of the case -- very handy.  They also have custom cases like the ID Tough -- you upload pictures from FB or Instagram and they'll make a case with your pics.  More than fair pricing.

My Graft Image is sweet.  Has an industrial look with an aluminum lever but is basically an Apple bumper.  Cool nonetheless.

Atomic and Element also make killer aluminum cases.  All metal.  Flared edges so you have a good grip.  Looking at $100 minimum.  The Element ION4 is a cheaper alternative and a mad good case.

Rokbed has some cool stuff and they include a port in the back for lanyards, magnets, clips, etc so you can attach your phone anywhere.

Ballistic HC case is bulky but a beast -- CaseMate Tank as well.  Life Proof Gen 2 is probably better than these though.

Incipio makes IMO the best extra battery case with their offGrid.  Has enough juice to serve as a backup battery and it doesn't add all that much size.

Oh, and buy an Invisible Shield to protect from scratches.  Worth the $30 IMO.

Best case I've had hands down if you don't mind spending a little: https://www.elementc...-Case-a/276.htm

They can be had on eBay for closer to $60... that's where I got mine from.

I just got a $2 rubber plastic bumper off of e-bay.  Keeps is protected on the edges and doesn't add much size at all

i have the basic black * Speck case, it has a gray rubber trim aroudn the front.  it was the one suggested by the salesman when I bought it.  It's a bit bulkier than some but not too bad, and seems very durable.  I have had no issues with the plastic breaking in any area.   I've only had it about 3 months though.

I've been thinking about that rokbed case.  Looks pretty decent.

I tried and returned the lifeproof case.  I really wanted to like it but it just never seemed to fit right.  I'll use the otterbox and just do my best not to submerge it in water.

I got an R2D2 case on Etsy from overseas. Noone in the U.S. has rights for "Droids" on iPhone. Pretty heavy duty and thick but not too thick. I think it was like $20.

ive had that exact same one over a year now and it hasnt broken or anything. i wont say its the best because ive never had to try another one, but it certainly gets the job done, and isnt really noticeable as the phone is black anyways.

Broke 3 Otterbox commuters.  Actually had a buddy rip 2 pairs of pant because his otterbox defender got stuck in his pocket. I bought a speck candyshell for 10 bucks shipped on amazon. Love it so far. Durable, and slides in and out of pockets easily

I have both an Otterbox Defender (2, one black and one red) and a Lifeproof. The defender is my work case and the Lifeproof is for everything else.

I orginally bought a Case Crown Lux Glider, but it slid on way to tight for my liking so I returned it and bought an Incipio Edge Pro and it is great. It is durable, yet does not at bulk to my Iphone. I feel like if you buy an Iphone why take away from the sleekness and design with a bulky case like an Otterbox (unless you drop your phone a lot then get one).

I like my Speck case.  I had a couple of them for my old 3G as well.  Speck customer service is pretty good too.  The first one I had the rubber separated from the plastic a fraction of an inch and they sent me a warranty replacement no questions asked.

INCIPIO NGP is the best iPhone 4S case...the firmness of the polymer is perfect, it allows for a nice amount of bounce and durability, and the case is a very fit.  The screen protectors that come with it appear invisible if put on 100% dust free.  Feel is smooth also, the matte black is what I have and I'm very happy, nothing else I've seen rivals the practicality of the NGP.

The newer Otter Box isnt as bulky as the older one IMO, its also a lot snugger to the phone and not flimsy like the first one I had.

I had an android and I'm not looking back. The iPhone is better quality with less issues. Oh and I don't like having to carry a phone with a screen bigger then 4 because them the phone IMO is too big. I loved android for years but nothing currently is blowing me away since the htc droid incredible 2
