Assuming normal conditions, no wind, perfect lie, sea level, and center face contact. How far should a 6 iron (31*) go with a 93 mph ss. I am not sure that I am hitting the ball as far as I should. I know that I don't hold the angle into impact as long as I should, but it is not a cast.

My 6i SS is 98-100 and I hit mine 205-210 with a regular swing.  Meaning not pushing it back in my stand and delofting and all that.

Depending on the kind of iron (blade vs player's cb vs GI), and assuming typical urethane cover ball and average launch conditions....

Scratch SB-1's are a bit softer than your average forged blade as well.

Swing video please.  I want to see what kind of rip it takes for an amateur to hit 205-210 with a 6.

being able to hit the ball a long way has very little, if any, correlation with being on the tour.

This is definitely true.  I have a friend that absolutely crushes it.  He can hit a 7 iron about 210, but he has no short game or putting skills and can't break 90 to save his life.  I know that's an extreme, but a high swing speed does not make you a better golfer.  I've played with some old guys that barely get there driver out 200 yards and always shoot around par.

But back on topic, You should be looking at about 185 with that swing speed.

Definitely.  Plus a mid-iron can be manipulated very easily to hit longer or shorter as well.  But normal swing, preferred flight, 185-190 at 93SS would be spot on i'd say.

Ok well that makes me feel better. I hit my 6 between 185 and 190 depending on how Im swinging that day. LIke I mentioned in my original post I am working very hard right now on holding the angle a little longer into impact which, in addition to adding a couple more mph, will hopefully give me a better ball flight.

mattw1106, I took a look at your signature and noticed you play out of Cypress Bend.  What a great course.  I haven't played there in 7 or 8 years.  There's some great golf here in California, but the courses back home in Louisiana/East Texas just seem to have more character to me.  I may have to head out there next time I get back home.

175 yards with 95 mph ss.  This is with a "players" cavity. Having some struggles with my 5 iron. Off center it goes the same ditance as my 6. Flushed it goes 190. Im sure i have some leakage. May just swap it for a hybrid

Cypress is a great course but could be so much better. I worked there for a while and there are some people there who just don't know how to run a business. Whenever you decide to come back in the area let me know and we will have to tee it up.

I have an 88-91 ss with a 6i and I  am pretty sure I was hitting the mp-69 (30*) 170-180 carry and 180-190 rollout, part of that was due to the launch angle being low since it didn't have the shaft I wanted in it.  I'll get you some numbers on the course in the next week or two if you're interested now that my order arrived!

:partytime2:

edit: in case you're curious, my driver ss is 99-101...

my 6iron avg is 182;  1 inch overstd;  this is the average based on outdoor and launch monitor testing - when i pure it exactly on the sweet spot it goes longer, mis hits even slight ones shorter, it all averages out to 182,  when i put impact tape on the club and hit 6 balls half are not exactly on the sweet spot - i mean litterally the single sweet spot.  if you can hit that one spot 5 out of 6 times you are going to get a lot of distance out of that face (probably be on tour also)

driver ss average is106 - based on radar 6 day rolling average that has 31 swings including fastest and slowest.

just to clarify - the average 6iron distance includes roll on the green not just carry.

200+ 6 irons? You guys rock.

I am 6'6" 300 lbs, hit my driver about 275, and my 6 iron goes exactly 165 yards.

My ss when i was recently fit was 92 with a 6iron.  My distant on average is around 195yds with my AP2 @ 30* (1 strong).

Not sure why so many people get bent out shape when people share their long iron yardages.

Not bent out of shape. Impressed. And wondering what major power leaks I must have in my game.

Lots of BS artists on the internet of course. Info below might add some perspective....

Who cares.  When I used to come home crying from the course in my younger days cause I was a club and a half shorter from others - my pops told me - it's not a game of how far you hit it (distance), but where you hit it.(accuracy)!  And with a short game, everyone can play this silly game!  My 6-iron, 145. Doesn't make me enjoy the game any less than you guys. Though I will come clean - thank god for hybrids!

Wasn't calling you out, Dan.  Was just a general comment.

Ftr, I'm 5'10 190.  I compress the crap out of the ball and have a low-mid penetrating flight with a draw.   I'm not bragging, I'm just saying.  I'm also about an 11hcp and I'd trade the extra yardage to improve another part of my game any day.

Not bent out of shape. Impressed. And wondering what major power leaks I must have in my game.

Lots of BS artists on the internet of course. Info below might add some perspective....

These are the ranges for the average hitters on the PGA Tour.

Just a quick online search, can't say it is 100% accurate, but sounds reasonable.

Those numbers aren't accurate at all to the discussion.  Those averages are exactly that, the average of every single shot hit with that club.  When people on this forum put their "average" what they are really writing is the distance at which they pull out that club.  I mean on the sim I hit most of my shot in the 170-180 carry range that rolled to 180-190, but I had a couple I hit thin or on the toe that flew 150-160 instead.  If you average them it would have been different.  Take what people say with a grain of salt, I'd wager most inflate based on their "best" shots and not the true distance.  I mean I hit a 5 iron pure about 220 once over a green that was 190 yards uphill, but I don't list that as my 5i average because it was a freak shot where I might have even had a bit of helping wind that day (normally that hole is a headwind).

just left launch monitor, every swing, 88-90mph with a 7 iron.  Now the machine said 175 (like 180 with "roll"), but whether that's accurate, whole other story.  I swear the clubfaces on the irons are getting hotter the last couple years.  I never hit irons this far before.
