From www.golf.com

Ever since Amy Alcott jumped into the lake off the 18th green when she won the then-Kraft Dinah Shore at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, Calif., the winner's victory leap into the pond has been an enduring tradition. However, last year Stacy Lewis' mom was injured jumping into the lake. This year, Kraft Nabisco Championship organizers have made the leap safer. Larry Bohannan of The Desert Sun has the details:

“It’s not really in response to (the injury),” said Gabe Codding, tournament director of the Kraft Nabisco. “It’s something that we looked at. Anything that we had to do, it felt like the appropriate thing to do, to have a jump zone and have an area where a mishap couldn’t happen again. It was important for us to address that issue.”

Poppie’s Pond is a cemented, fresh-water area cut off from the rest of the lake around the 18th green at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club. It was initially built to end concerns about players jumping into the murky brown water of the actually lake inhabited by fish, ducks, coots and algae. Codding said the changes in Poppie’s Pond make the area safer for winners and whoever joins the winner in the pond.

I guess what I find funny is that something that started as a whimsical thing....which wasn't copied until years later....has become this overly planned event.  Oh well....I guess there's nothing wrong with safer.....

I agree that it shouldn't be overly planned.  too much planning makes it cheesy and it's awkward when someone does not want to do it.

I wonder who payed the medical bills for Stacey Lewis' mom.

Let's pass out goggles and water wings while we're at it.

The LPGA should ditch some of it's 'grade school' tendencies but that's just my opinion. I would watch more if I wasn't subjected to the 'girl-power' feel of it all. I understand it but it's in opposition to what I want to see in golf, male or female.

I am clearly not their demographic though. Seems sad to me but hey, whatever. Good luck to them.

I hear that. The latest batch of LPGA ads...I can't even bear to watch them. Literally have to change the channel or hit mute because they are so embarrassing. <shivers> The awkward stiffness is off the charts. Girls are obviously reading from cue cards and ironically this is LPGA's attempt at showing you how cute and fun these girls are. BIG TIME FAIL.

It's hard to disagree....i'm trying my best to love them for trying and not hate them for failing.....it's a struggle sometimes.
