Since I got called an "American Hater" for saying Manassero earlier I thought I would make a poll for everyone.

Who's on your team, the youngest British Amateur Champion (age 16), youngest European Tour winner (and 2nd youngest), youngest player to ever make the cut at The Masters and a player who at just 16 years old finished 13th in the Open Championship. Also the youngest player ever to top the Amateur World rankings which he remained on top of until he turned pro.

Or Patrick Cantlay, current World Amateur #1, runner up in US Amateur, Haskins Award 2011 winner who shot 60 on tour last year.

Also keep in mind, Cantlay is a year older than Manassero.

Don't know and can't know too early. I think Mannassero but that's just because he's already got it done.

Yes, Manassero has achieved more in the game so far, and at a year younger than Cantlay. Very hard to say who will be better going forward. That is why I asked who is the better prospect rather than "who will have the better career"

I'd also like to point out that anybody who votes Manassero is an American hater and anybody who votes Cantlay is an European hater.

Well, first of all, Cantlay hasn't played enough against supreme competition to get a proper read.  Let's wait for him to turn pro.

As for Matteo, the first time I ever saw this brilliant young player I knew I was watching a special golfer.

Matteo has a Seve-like aura about him.  He seems destined for greatness.

I just got in a fight with a guy about how Spieth is a bigger prospect then Cantlay to become a better American player so I'm taking Manassero all the way in this one. I hope he stays on the Euro Tour too, but we all know if he wins a major this won't be the case.

I thought about Jordan when I first saw this poll.  He impresses me more than Cantlay.

It is really no contest based on current achievements - Manassero is fast becoming a seasoned professional who has won Twice in Europe.

Cantlay is a great amateur with a couple of good showings in pro events.

Best to compare Cantlay to Harris English, Cauley, Speith or that guy who said the top amateurs could beat the pros (I can't remember his name but he didn't even make it through to the final round of q school).

Don't let the twits who reply with 'hater' in order to stifle opinions that don't agree with theirs lead you to doubt.  Cantlay and Manassero don't even compare at the moment.

We won't get an answer for another couple of years anyway, because Cantlay will be on the Nationwide Tour next year anyway - unless he can pull a Bud Cauley - but that has only been done 5 times in history.

Y'all are hilarious. Cantlay was even par at the 2011 US Open. Manassero was +7... Cantlay shot a back nine 30 in his 2nd round. He set a course record at a PGA Tour event.

Manassero is not close to doing what Cantlay did as an amateur on the PGA Tour and Manassero is already a pro.

You are basing your judgement on one tournament? Manassero struggled for much of 2011 after his win in Malaysia, so he obviously wasn't in form at the US Open.
Cantlay did set a course record at a PGA Tour event, he also managed to finish outside the top 15 or 20 in that same event.
Everyone can have one great round, it's those who consistently play well for 4 rounds who get the Ws. Manassero has done twice already, holding off a big name like McIlroy in Malaysia.

Stuart Appleby shot 59 in a PGA Tour event. He beat Tiger in a PGA Tour event. Therefore he is better than Tiger...

Manassero due to the fact that the only indicator we have (if it is one at all in the game of golf) are past successes  of which Manassero has more at the moment.

Conclusive proof from this poll that the majority agree with me in saying Manassero.

I guess everybody hates Americans around here :russian_roulette:

Manassero finished 4 shots behind the winner of the 2009 Open Championship at the age of 16. He also became the youngest winner ever of the Amateur Championship that year. In early 2010, while still 16, he became the youngest player ever to make the cut at The Masters. He proceeded to turn pro shortly after turning 17 and won twice within a year of turning pro becoming the youngest and 2nd youngest ever winner on the European Tour. He is the youngest player ever to make the cut in all 4 majors. He is now 18 years old.

Cantlays achievements include losing the final of the US Amateur and a career high finish of 9th in a pro event.

Possibly because Manassero has only played 11 PGA Tour events with 9 of them being Majors/WGCs/Players.He is a European Tour member after all. Still has managed to make 9 of those 11 cuts though including a top 10 in a WGC.

Do you consider The Open and The Masters as part of the PGA Tour?

Yeah, his +16 total for the 23 holes he hacked around, before withdrawing with no medical excuse, in last week's European Tour event was indicative of his monumental potential

Once Matteo gets a little bigger and figures out how to hit it further it won't even be close.
