I just got a new RIP Beta 70 stiff that is uncut.  When I go to install, should I cut the tip at all or is it set up correct for a driver?

Then, I obviously will cut the butt end to length after installing the R11 adapter...but what is the best way to cut the shaft?  Can it be done with a hacksaw or is there a special way to do it?

Tipping (cutting the tip) is not neccessary for installing in a driver. Some shaft manufactutures will recommend tipping for installing in fairway woods. Most of their websites have the recommended amount to cut from the tip depending on the head you are installing it into.

When you cut the shaft, make sure you tape around where you are cutting with masking tape and cut smoothly if you are using a hand saw. The tape will help avoid any splintering of the graphite. Good Luck.

Isn't there usually a standard or recommended tipping when installing into such sleeves? I was under the impression that TM sleeves required 1/2" of tipping for the shaft to play true to flex vs a glued head. What's the take on that?

I will keep doing some research...but keep the info coming.

That's a good point/question about installing the R11 adapter.  I does make the shaft stick out of the hosel farther than a glued on head.  I didn't see much on the Aldila site that made much sense to an average joe about tipping or trimming and nothing about different heads.

RIP Beta is trim code "F"

Trim Codes:

But it would also depend on the bore type of the driver.  Bore to ground
distance is 1 to 1.5" on most drivers(except bore thru).  If the tip
sleeve causes the shaft to set higher off the ground, then that extra
amount would need to be tip trimmed.

whaever you decide to do please make sure you only use a power saw with a diamond edge blade, and standard saw will weaken the shaft and cause internal splinters and definitley do not use a hand saw.

Good Luck!!
