As I said in my post, I think it was an honest mistake on his part...It wasn't done after 15 seconds of the previous bid (it was like 2 or 3, I think), and it was right in the middle of autobids. I think that's pretty obvious that unless he's got the worst shill system in the world, it was a mistake. I went and checked out the other auctions and didn't find anything on those, so looks to be a pretty clear cut isolated incident that he's owned up to. I wasn't trying to get a smear campaign going on this, but was rather making an observation for others to look out for.

I think the question is intent. If it's been done before (AT ALL), why should we, the customers, feel confident that it won't happen in the future? People bid up their auctions on ebay, don't see why this would be any different... Well, except that for every bid someone else bids, you pocket 50 cents.

Note: I don't have anything to back these claims, just stating why there is definitely some skepticism.

Best answer is a positive track record.   Even so there will always be speculation and naysayers.   It just part of the  business.

I finally received my RBZ driver.  It is certainly authentic and was sent direct from Taylormade.  FedEx dropped it off at a nearby pro shop (with their shipment I imagine.)

Long wait, but the club is the real deal at least and the shipping gaffe was FedEx's fault.

I'm going to post some feedback for the sponsor here.

First, some notes:

1.) I am an avid penny auction user. If you know what you're doing and take the time to understand it, it's a great thing. If you can't wrap your head around it and just choose to bash it without really understanding it, it isn't. It isn't gambling unless you choose to make it gambling. I'm not going to go any further in discussing its viability and the credibility of this site for having a penny auction site as a sponsor. I'm thrilled to have them here.

2.) I've won two auctions already, both with significant savings.

And now to the feedback:

  • The software seems to be very meh compared to some sites. I've had a couple times where the timer has just disappeared at 0, but a new bidders name popped up. If I weren't as familiar with auctions, I may not know to bid in that circumstance. Hopefully it's something that can be fixed.
  • There HAS TO be better updating as to where you stand for bid credits on an auction. It lags horribly. That's info you may need to set up an auto-bid. Also - will the software stop you when you have reached the point where a BIN is more cost effective? If not, why not?

Thanks to the sponsor for the anticipated response to my feedback. :)

Oh! And one more thing. No win limits? Seeing the same names constantly winning is going to make it pretty tough to pick up enough new customers to be viable...

Just took a look to see what's up for bid today...seemed like a flea market to me.  Im wondering if they are drumming up many buys for "unbreakable tees", "Noveltiy Balls" and "Spongebob Balls" to make money?

Just curious...

Those items rarely sell. I think they're really there just to "fill the shelves". There's a dozen premium balls pretty much everyday and a club 3-4 days a week. I think they just need more site traffic to offer more stuff...

There's a slight lag in the reset of the clock. If you bid with 1 second left, it usually goes to 0. Nothing was manipulated. That happens on pretty much all penny auction sites...

If you want it to "go under", maybe you should stop using the "pathetic piece of crap site". Just a thought.

It goes to zero on your screen but there may be many other bids at same time and the server has to record and recalculate for each before resetting the timer .  The speed of the internet is unbelievable but its not instantaneous.   There are no shenanigans I assure you.

We also explain this on the site under the FAQs page.
The countdown clock hit zero but a few seconds went by before it reset. What happened?

If multiple bids are placed at the last second, this will usually cause a slight delay so all bids will be counted. Once all the bids have been recorded, the clock will reset.

Ok so that was my first night... I have won a few things but only received the novelty items. To be honest i was a lil drunk and upset last time I wrote that, and I see whats going on... every time it appears to be 0 on my screen the next time it pops up I see the 3 or 4 bids... Its a fun site deffinitly something enjoyable to do when buying something. They have been in contact with me and I even won some balls. Thanks for the explanation next time I shall read before posting.

Ha, I was on there earlier.  I was thinking about throwing some money in and giving it a shot, but I forgot all about it.  Can I ask how far you were willing to bid on it if I was in a bidding war with you?:clapping:

Congratulations!!!

You never know. Right now we are entering hour 4 on a RBZ driver auction at $15+ I think.

Yea...pretty much says it all.  I was one of many who used 100+ bids on that RBZ auction only to see it go to someone else.

But hey, if you don't play you're never going to win.  That's how I see it.  So I'm still a happy (alright maybe a wee bit sad) camper.

Congrats on the big sale tonight!

I'll probably be back tomorrow for the R11s TP.

I have been watching this site for about 2 weeks and just started bidding on it 5/2, since then I have won a Titleist 910 D2 driver, 13 golf pride tour wraps, on Saturday night I won a dozen Pro V 1x balls and then tonight I won a TaylorMade RBZ driver for 3 bids.  I have received the Grips today, expect the Titleist driver soon and the rest in a week or so.

I have been involved in penny auctions for over 3 years and have won and received A LOT OF STUFF, there is a way to win and you have to know what you are doing.  I have seen people bid 4 or 5 times in a row just to see there name on top, stupid and a waste of bids.  Its also a good idea to know who the power bidders are on this site and any site for that matter, know who you are bidding against and pick your battles.

I did see that TaylorMade RBZ auction that sold for over $17.00 the guy who won it must have spent over 600 bids, he paid close to retail, but ya something, people complain about the site cleaning up, over $850.00 on that auction alone, but they have to make a profit too.

I have bid on another golf site called Sportsbiz, and won there too, I did receive my winning but then they closed, hoping golfbids will stay awhile.

One last thing, Richard will I be receiving a tracking notice when my clubs ship, and keep up the good work.

Yeah I was the one the guy who won was bidding against at the end.  Was using my phone and ran out of bids and my phone started acting up and couldnt log into paypal to purchase more bids.  Needless to say I wasnt happy with my stupid phone!

Yea, using a phone to bid is not the best idea, maybe on a glove or something small but not on something thats going to possibly cost hundreds of bids.  Got my shipping notice for the Titleist driver this morning, can't wait.

I gotta say Michael,

You are probably either one of the smartest or luckiest bidders i've seen on golfbids.

I've never seen too many people win such BIG auctions for only a few bids.

Makes me super jealous. Posted Image

Congrats our your GREAT wins!

Well you have to have some luck to win anything, and the Titleist was definitely a lucky win as I did not expect it to close after my 12th bid, but, if you play PA's all the time as I do you will win sometimes for 1 or 2 bids, it does happen.

And as I said before, you have to know who you are bidding against, and pick your battles wisely.

Well said by 'Scratch'.  I was a part of the bloodbath auction the other night around the RBZ driver (sucks to see it go for $0.40 last night).  So far this site has been hit and miss for me.  You really need to pick your battles.  Like Golftown said, know who the players are.  There are a few people that I will not go up against unless I am willing to go to retail.  Another tip is to know your limit.

Some clubs seems to ship slower than others, but overall I have been very happy with Richard and his customer service.

Last point.  Verify EVERYTHING is working on your computer before you start.  I was on a work computer when that RBZ fiasco went down.  My work computer has some sort of Java glitch or something.  The screen said that the RBZ had sold.  I had my bidcaddy set for $10, and the auction 'sold' at $8.??.  I tuned out after that because, well, I thought the auction was done.  Well, my computer had a glich and the auction hadn't actually ended.  I ended up wasting a whole bunch fo bids because I wasn't around to cancel my bid caddy.  My lesson is learned about using my work computer!  It wasn't anything that GolfBids did, it was my fault.  But there was definitely a lesson to be learned!

The CEO of Golfbids is also the CEO of BladeGolf.  They make custom iron sets.  From my knowledge, only 1 set of blade-golf irons have ever been sold on this site.  That was also about 2 months ago.

I think the winner was:

msmith1258  (or Marty S. from the Customer testimonials page)
