verderaul. yea it seems that when my backswing gets long, it falls behind so i dont have that great of a shaft lean. will work on getting better impact after i get everything up to backswing perfected.

worked on drills today just focusing on grip all the way to the top of backswing (and maybe first part of transition??)

let me know what you guys think.

does everything up to top of backswing look good? also, does the transition look right? i do notice that when my wrist don't set early, my arms tend to run away from me and end up with a long backswing making it hard to get arms in front at impact. any drills to get used to setting wrist early since its my habit not to set wrist at all now? im looking at buying a swingyde. need to fix it. let me know. thanks

Itsjappo,

The setup is off .... Fix it.
The transition is beginning with your arms dropping....you have to establish your left pivot first.

I want to hear what the experts think as well.

what needs to be fixed at setup? please let me know and i'll make sure to work on it.
as far as that transition on that drill, it might look like the arms are dropping but its because they are dropping at that position automatically when i pivot my left hip and whole left side.

either way, let me know what needs to be fixed or what looks ok. waiting for the experts replies as well.

Compare the Red Shirt FO video with the last FO video. Assuming you are hitting some wedge or 9 iron. The outside of your shoulder, hip were in straight line before and that's the standard wedge setup.

venderraul- oh its probably looking like that because i setup correctly initially but did one of those continuous backswing drill. i must've did 5 backswings from when i setup and probably got out of it after a few swings.this particular footage must have been the 3rd swing (i cut it from original footage) so im sure i got out of the reverse k. no need to worry as i can assure you that i have the grip and setup correctly. now only if i can get the takeaway and backswing pivot mastered, then i can move on to transition.

i feel like i hit a road block though. i been working on the takeaway (keeping face square and quiet for the first 18inches) then letting wrist set. i did notice that my misses are either block right or slices specially with the long clubs. anyone knows whats going on here? i really hate seeing the ball slice and it kinda bummed me out right now. please help me =/

If my hands are passive and i am using the pivot to square the club. This happens when i dont clear my left side hard. Go on a impact bag and really clear your left side with passive hands. Then hit a regular shot.

i think i made another step forward. i played a short course yesterday with my brother and friend. i shot the best round of my life. 71!!!! on a par 70 course. all i did was focused on a slow and smooth short backswing (almost at 9'oclock) and from there just fire left side. im going to practice on monday and take some vid and hopefully things are in good position to hit the  ball that consistent =) im so happy but now just hope it becomes permanent and not a fluke =P

update...

i finally got the swingyde in the mail yesterday and i started working with it. wow! i should've had this training aid when i started to learn golf. it really puts me in way better and proper positions in order to coil and make proper impact! i took a quick vid working on 9-to-3 swings in my garage. sorry for the quality.

i really feel im getting very close to getting this swing down. i did come across a new road bump. i played today with my brother and friends and i had alot of pull fades (specially with irons). also my woods are either pull fades or slight cut/slice. anyone know whats going on? i might need to work on my release (crossing over hands) b/c i might be holding it without release just like i focus on doing 9-3. so any drills or help on how i should be releasing post impact would be great. thanks and keep posted.

Hi Itsjappo,

I'm a new member here, but long time reader. I've posted a bit on GTO in the past.

I think this is a very insightful thread you started, and noticed that you really are showing some improvements in your swing. I also really respect you tenacity and dedication, it makes me feel a bit more normal to find other golf heads like me! ;)

I am also thinking of re-building my swing with the Slice Fixer method, considering all the various methods and sources that I have exhausted with no tangible imporvements, I definitely have nothing to lose and I like a lot of the stuff that I see in the Texacarna.

I sent you a PM, as I have a few things I wanted to discuss with you before going forward.

Also, do you have any recent develpments in your swing?
I think these threads are great because they often show issues that qre quite common with amature golfers.

Good luck for the 2012 season, and keep up the good work!

Anthony

i replied to your pm. i have a very good understanding of this swing now but haven't had any practice time lately. with the foot injury (healed now, thankfully) and the stormy weather here in fl, i am hoping to start training again this week. i will be posting new vids soon.

05.29.12 UPDATE...

My plantar fascitis finally healed down to where i can walk again. Been out of commission for past 2 weeks. =( Which is ok since it gives me time to do some researching and analyzing. Its still raining here due to the tropical storm so I am eager to go back out on the range. For now, I wanted to take some indoor swing vids to see my positions. Things are definately starting to come together =) Enjoy and let me know what you guys think.

I still need to get used to setting my wrist much earlier. More time with the swingyde should start to make changes with that. Same goes with clearing more space with my right hip. I do notice that when I do these swings with the swingyde, I achieve those two things that I need work on. Just gotta keep practicing with it longer.

Here's also my one and only club being used for the past 2 months. I started with a smooth and clean clubface. Now its starting to take its beating. Atleast its always in the same spot. Guess I need to go flatter =P

finally made it out to the range today for 2hrs of practice. here is the current swing. enjoy.

so far im liking it. i got the grip to transition and downswing down. now time to work on more lag and the low and left release. i still have a habit of crossing hands over and need the triangle to stay longer throughout the swing. some punisher drills starting tomorrow should fix it.

made more progress and i think i got it to where i want it. all positions are automatic now without any manipulation. i haven't gotten a chance to vid but i will next week. i played a tough course today where before i scored no less than a 91 when playing. course is 7176 yds. par 72. 124 slope and 73.9 rating. it was very windy and rainy. shot a 79! actually felt like I played pretty bad considering of the weather and the fact that I haven't slept all night and tee time was at 715am. I'm very happy and now all I need to do is work on my distances as well as short game. SCRATCH, here I come =)

getting there. night and day from last year and obviously the results are there too....which is most important.

the thing i'm seeing from that last angle is that you're staying really flat footed well past impact and getting stalled out.  looks like your hips are reaching their maximum rotation point around impact.....and then they stop/stall and there's nothing left to do but get flippy.   rickie fowler plays great like this....but it's not SF.

not sure about any drills for this.  maybe someone else can chime in with something.
but you gotta work on getting your hips and upper body more in sync and fluid through impact.  get on that left side and rotate all the way through....don't worry about keeping the right heel down.  a thought may even be getting your right knee to 'kiss' your left knee through impact to give your hips that ability to keep going all the way through without stalling.

i'm sure you've seen these plenty of times before....but just watch how the hip action never stops, compared to yours.

i think you're really close though.

thanks tfish. i knew someone was gonna notice that. i just came back from a two week downtime due to my right foot/ankle injury flareup. i wanted to get up on my toes at impact but it hurted still so my body wouldn't let me do so. i wasnt fully healed but i was dying to get back out there to practice. ill get some new vids this week where i can swing without any pain. i think i got it tho now. because the golf ball tells me so. when i played and scored that 79. it was pretty much point and shoot. automatic golf swing. i just had my distances off with my approach to green so i had some 1 chip and 2 putts resulting in a bogey. it was a round of all pars, one birdie and 8 bogey. def a good sign=)

Man, you are looking more and more like one of Slice's students. I'm envious of your swing. I'm curious what your feels are for the transition and downswing are? I can't get the shaft shallow in the downswing to save my life and have to slide the hips. I think it might be out of position at the top. I look forward to watching your progress. I'd kill for a 79 lol.

will get more vids sometime this week. that last vid seemed like it due to the right foot staying "planted" throughout the swing just as tfish stated. I am recovering from a right foot injury so it was still tender and it hurted to get up on my toes. hope it looks much better on the next vids so keep posted.

had about an hour range session today. its very windy and was about to storm so here is a quick vid i was able to take. i was doing some hold off/knockdown shots. as you can see, the right foot/ankle is starting to heal. im able to sort of get it up on my toes. once its pain free and i can trust it, i will be working to make sure that my right foot get up on its toes as well as get the right knee to kiss the left knee at impact.

long time no check in. still working on getting better. always checking on my fundamentals to make sure its right. i have a tendency to go back on my old ways, specially after a good break from practicing/playing. just trying to work on my transition now and putting everything together as a nice fluid motion. will get some vids up this week so stay tuned.

on a good note, still playing well. played my club's friday skins game this past fri and shot a 79. won 2 skins from a back to back birdie. i could've easily shot in the low 70s but had a +5 stretch on 4 holes (the hardest part of the course). either way, good sign since I'm starting to consistently break 80s.

will report back with vid in a few days.

played another tough course today. 73.1 rating with 129 slope. 7111 yards. shot a 78 just relaxed hanging out with friends for july 4th holiday. i wont be taking any more vids as i got my swing to where i want it. im swinging well and no thoughts. just aim and shoot and its dead straight and long all day. i dont think i missed a fairway today. avg around 270-290. now time to just focus on tightening up my scoring range to make sure i dont miss any greens. thanks for all the help i got here and goodluck to all the ones trying to learn this swing style. i will now be focusing on posting low scores to prepare for local mini tournaments here =)
