Have played two rounds with the U4x.  I'm very impressed.  Today's round was in strong winds, and the ball never ballooned.  Long off the driver and irons, tons of spin around the green.  In fact, almost too much.  It would take some getting used to...

Solid feel and durable, too.  Played the full round rotating two balls and they don't show wear.

i have been playing the U3's and like the spin and feel around the greens. only complaint is I cracked a cover and caused a crazy wobbler to hook left into the trees. guess i can now say I have knocked the cover off a ball.

funny you mention that:   while on a business trip i visited a Dick's Sporting goods and found the Maxfli (2011) Tour Balls.   i picked up a dozen of the fast SS balls, and the mid SS balls.   while they felt soft, i also cracked the mid SS ball in half with a 7 iron.   maybe it was due to me blading the ball from a terrible swing but like you, cut that cover in half.

only time that i recall doing so...

Anybody else have any experience with the U/2 or U/3? I have been looking for some reviews but most of what I've found focuses on the U/4 or U/4x. Would like to hear a little more about the U/2 and U/3 and how they compare to other golf balls in their price range.

Tried U4 and U4x at a local par 3 (only hit irons and wedges).  SHREDDED the covers on both balls!

Played 18 with two U/3's today. Found the ball to be very very soft off the driver, to the point that I noticed it lacking in distance (100 - 105 mph SS, longest drive was about 270). However, it was fairly straight, and when I did miss the fairway I was still only about 10 yards wide. Short game spin was actually pretty good on full shots, with maybe a few feet of roll out, and pretty good feel and check on pitches and chips - but this is definitely not a spin back ball. I had one approach at about 105 yards over a green side bunker, and hit a gap wedge that cleared it, hopped, and stayed right where it landed just beneath the hole. Durability was surprisingly better than I thought it would be with no big scuffs, but a little fraying. I found it very much like the Hex Chrome in that department. On an additional note, the ball seemed to be carried by the wind very easily, even though it launched very low.

Overall verdict: Too soft for my taste, but performed respectably in the short game. Slower swingers might want to take a look at this for a budget ball, but it launches very very low. For me, I will stick to the Q-star or gamer V2 when I want to save money.

The Maxfli U/4x was amazing the round I played with it.  Slap ProV1 on the side of it and it would sell like crazy!!!  Did not notice a distance difference off the driver and the ball sticks to the greens very well.  This is a very nice ball that I would not hesitate to buy again.  If they priced these at $35 to go against the Chrome and TP3 I would buy them up!  If your not giving this ball a shot due to the name on the side you can rest assured that this ball is legit.  It won't knock out the Z-Star but the sticky cover is sure fun to play with.  Really gets a good first bite (chip shots) on the hard greens around here.

Maxfli U4x is the best new ball on the market.  If you want something that launches low, with low driver spin, and tremendous spin around the green...this is the ball you are looking for.

Just played 18 at the Grizzly - Jack Nicklaus Course - Played the Callaway Hex Black on the front and the U/4x on the back.  Weather was in the mid 50's and there was a constant breeze.  The Hex Black did its thing on the front.  Good line in cross winds and very predictable flight.  I thought the U/4x was equal to and exceeding in most aspects when compared to the Hex Black.  Driver distance and Flight were equal, long irons had a great climbing trajectory w/o ballooning, think high piercing flight.  Mid irons/wedges stopped even better than the Hex Black.  I could toss wedges at the flag and they would take one hop and stop or spin back to their pitch mark.  I didn't get to hit any full 56/60 wedge shots due to the wind but have previously and the U/4x performs excellently!  Great feel and bite around the green and they rolled so smooth off the putter.  Maxfli has a winner on their hands!  For those who won't play this ball because of the name you could stamp Titliest on the side and everyone would be raving about this new ball.  If you are contemplating a ball change and have not given the U/4 and U/4x a though maybe you should.  I'm planning on having a few sleeves of these on hand because they flat out perform.

+100 ...people really do need to try the U4x or U4...a very impressive ball.  Its the best ball I've played in a long time...can't say enough about it.

Just picked up the Maxfli U/4 to compare to the U/4X.  Only got in 3 holes before the rain today but this is what I always looked for in a ball.  Has a good firm feel off the driver so I feel like I'm getting on it good.  Great green grabbing ability.  Can hit hop and stops or rip back wedges depending on what I was trying to do.  Was able to flight a shot down really well into the wind.  I know 3 holes is not a lot to go on but this does appear to be exactly what the box describes.  Slightly softer and with more spin.  I will be playing Thursday and if the course dries out I will put it in play and report back.  If the course stays soft I'll probably put the Hex Black in play.  Give up the spin but snag a few extra yards in the softer conditions.

Cut to the chase; I could care less about brand of ball or clubs, as I have no loyalty (see my bag). With that said, I also could care less about the brand of ball pros are playing or popular on tour  (I know it's Titleist).  I currently play the Wilson Duo and Top Flite Gamer V2.  Can those of you who have played the Maxfli series of balls compare to my current set-up?  I like descent spin on approach shots without sacrificing distance.  Thank you!

How would you compare it to the Gamer V2 or another gamer's ball?

I picked up a box of Maxfli U/2's a couple weekends ago to compare to my usual Gamer V2's.

I am SHOCKED by how POOR the durability is.  I didn't read through the other posts because I'm a lazy American, so I'm not sure if this is something everyone is saying, but I saw the thread pop up on the front page and thought I'd comment.

The FIRST hole I played with the ball, I hit a driver off the tee.  I enjoyed what was a solid feel and lower launch than the Gamer V2.  I had a Gap Wedge into the first green from the "first cut" of rough.  I struck the Gap Wedge pretty solid only to watch it fly low and lame.  I thought I must have mis-hit it worse than I thought.  I got up to my ball to see it "smiling" at me.  I'm relatively young (28) and was just breaking into golf during the time of the Titleist Professional 100, which, when bladed properly, would leave a neat gash in it.

This was about the first time I'd noticed a "smile" in a golf ball since I was about 14.   I was pretty surprised that it hadn't taken a traditional bladed shot to crack it wide open.

I went back to my Gamer V2 for the rest of that round.

Next round a couple days later.  I started with the Gamer V2 through the first 7 holes, the 8th is a long (225 yd) par 3 at this course.  The hole was playing dead across a left to right wind.  I hit the Gamer V2 with my 3 hybrid, it started just left of the green and didn't move right a micrometer, landed pin high on a grassy mound.  Confused, I pulled out another ball (no intentions of playing this ball, not a handicap round, etc) a Maxfli U/2.  I tried the same shot, a 3 hybrid aimed just left of the green to ride the wind.  I made a good enough swing, it felt solid, and I looked up only to see my ball flying low and lame again, burying in a cross bunker about 50 yards short of the green.  Again, I thought, well, must have missed that one a little worse than it felt.  I walk up and pluck the ball from the cross bunker on the way to my "real" ball and find a big "smiling" crack in the ball.

Needless to say, I'm not impressed with the U/2.  I was pretty excited about them after reading about them here, no longer.

I've played the U2 and Wilson Duo....My current gamer is the B330RX PINK. ($25/doz @ GG)

I loved both the U2 ($20/doz) and Duo ($20/doz) and think that the price point makes these balls a real killer on the course. Both are very soft, Duo is softest, and very straight off the tee. Initially I thought that the U2 has no greenside spin but it was the user and not the ball. I had a few shots with a sand wedge that just stuck. I'll be switching between the B330-RX, U2 and Duo very often. I can't tell you which ball is longer or straighter but I can tell you there isn't much difference for me between the 3. If I find the U4(x) on the course I'll give it a test but at $35+ /doz I'm in no rush to buy them myself.

I really have not played the Gamer except for early early this year when we were under water here.  I still found myself wanting more spin on all shots.  If you like the feel of the Gamer then i would go with the U/4.  You will get more spin on all shots compared to the Gamer.  If you struggle off the tee and want a straighter ball i would go for the U/4X because it still has great stopping ability.  I'll probably play through the U/4's and purchase more U/4X's as the distance/less driver spin outweighs the stopping ability.  The "X" version has as much spin and the non X.  Can't comment on the U/2 or U/3 as they are not what I am looking for in a ball.

Played a sleeve of the U2s.  I can't say I'm all the impressed.  I really miss the Freak.

I picked up some U4's yesterday and played a quick 9.  I really like the feel and predictability of the ball 50 yards in.   These balls are super tacky too, I really like these over the prov1's......for now anyways

Picked up a box of U4X's.  Played it side beside with a Gamer V2.  Maybe I'm deluding myself, which the case probably is, but I really couldn't tell much of a difference.  I like the Gamer a bit better around the green, but the U4X seemed to respond almost as well.  They both shredded, but it is what it is.  I'm done searching for the mythical super ball that performs like a ballerina and shrugs off tearing like a tank.

U4x continues to impress...i'll be gaming this ball all summer..truly a great ball.  Low driver spin and tremendous greenside spin...perfect ball in the spin category.

Very dissapointed with U3.  Felt like it did not live up to claims and first tee shot resulted in a broken cover of the ball.  Extremely dissapointed.

Got the sample pack at Golf Galaxy.  U4 and U4X are winners. I am dropping the TP5's into my opponents bag.  Substantially better feel and responsiveness off of the face. Better putting reaction by far not to mention the added distance.

I saw the sample of a sleeve of U/4 and u/4X's for $20 at Dicks Sporting Goods.  These balls are legit and definitely worth a shot.  I can't comment on the 2/3 series at I'm not looking for what those balls have to offer.

+1 ... I'll take the U4x over the Penta TP5.

In my opinion, nothing is as good or as durable as the Srixon Z-Star.  I would put them equal to or above the Pro V1 but below the Srixon in terms of durability.  I get one good wedge shot out of a Pro V1 and then pick off the gills the wedge leave.  I played a solid 18 with the U/4x with minimal wear including some wedge shots that spun so much I thought that ripped half the cover off.  The cover will get marked up but I don't remember them shredding.  I will be playing these this Thursday in my League where I hit drivers and sand/lob wedges the entire round.  I will play with a U/4 and report back my findings.  Really really happy with the ball and would love to see it at the 29-35 dollar range.  It would bump all other purchases out of the bag and make sure that I bough more Maxfli U golf balls.

I played the U/4x this weekend and hit some bombs, and hit some not so good. As for the bombs not only were they good swings the ball held a great line, and the one time I had to work it, the ball moved, about as good as any other premium ball on the market, which is not a ton but enough. I played one ball the entire round and hit some very well struck nipped wedges and there was no scuffing, which was the opposite of what I expected. When you feel them they feel very soft and tacky like they would scuff easy.  As for the bad shots, they never really strayed that far from the intended line, and I am talking they clearly were mishits, not like the regulars up here who talk about catching it "a groove too high".  Good overall ball. Same feel as a PV!X / ZStarX/ B330.  And for those of you who have to spend 40+ a dozen to feel that you are buying a good ball these also fit in your wheel house at 39.99 a dozen.
