When are you coming to town and what price range are you looking at?  It also depends on how far you are willing to travel.  If you are staying on the south side, would you be willing to drive 45min to get to a course?

Aside from those questions, here are my favorites in the KC Metro Area...in order I'd play them.  All public courses ranging from $35 - $80+

Shoal Creek
Golf Club of Kansas
Sycamore Ridge
Stone Canyon
Tiffany Greens
Falcon Ridge
Deer Creek
Falcon Lakes
Dubs Dread
Adams Pointe
Sunflower Hills

There are lots of other choices, and if you know people in KC, the private side is just as good.

As stated above, if where you stay dictates choice then refer to the list, mostly solid picks.

If location doesn't matter and just want to play the best public track then Golf Club of KS.

Don't know much about the private side other than I'd love to play Shadow Glen, The National and Wolfcreek.

Thanks guys !
The golf club of KS is what was in my preliminary plans, heard good things about it.
I'll be staying in the plaza area and don't mind a drive.
Cost isn't really a determining factor, as long as I'm getting something worth the fees.
I don't want to miss out on something amazing, as I don't know if or when I'll get back to the area.
Probably gonna have to stick to something public as I don't have a hookup at a CC.

GCoK is the nicest...they held the KC am finals there last year.  Shoal is the best bang for the buck IMO.

When are you coming to town?  Most every course is dormant right now and will be until april-ish.

Trip was supposed to be the first week of April, but it looks like its getting pushed back to memorial weekend.
Definitely going to book golf club of Kansas and look into the others. Thanks for the solid reccomendation.

I'm heading there the last weekend of Sept.  Already playing Tiffany Greens, so want something different.  Will be flying in and staying at the Argosy Casino.  What options to get in a round noonish time on a Sunday?

We will be flying into MCI, so is there any course between the airport and downtown worth playing?

Close to the airport toward Liberty is Shoal Creek. We play there all the time, nice place.

Just depends on how far you want to drive. Another solid track on I-70 is Stone Canyon by Greg Norman.

Winterstone may not be too far from Argosy.

Just a few that we frequent.

Second on Shoal Creek and Stone Canyon.  They are both way better than Tiffany in my opinion.  Tiffany is first of all nothing remarkable and second of all very tricked up.  I think there are water hazards on 10+ holes and essentially "island" greens on about 8 (by island I technically mean "penninsula," but either way it's just kind of stupid).  Shoal Creek hosts a ton of tournaments and is a very good and difficult course.  I played there a couple of weeks ago in a tournament, and the greens were immaculate...way better than my home private club.  Don't know that they keep them like that year round, but still nice I'm sure.  It is also smack dab in between the airport and downtown.  I have only played Stone Canyon once and thought it was also very solid.  Very close to your desired area as well.  I have heard that the conditioning of Golf Club of Kansas is in serious decline due to financial issues, FWIW, and it's also way out of your geographic preference area.

What about The National Golf Club.  Is that open to the public and do they have a place for lunch on site?

I am pretty sure the National Golf Club is private.  I know one of the assistant pros there I have not gotten on.

Any updates on the Golf Club of Kansas? I've been wanting to go up and play it but if the condition is not good I won't make the trip..

Golf Club of Kansas has not done well with the drought.

Only got one round in on my trip and played Tiffany greens.
It was a little quirky, but none the less a good time.
Ill definately take up the reccomendation on shoal on my next trip.
