idk if any of yall have seen this yet but pings got a black g20. this thing looks friggin sick and there are a few pics of hunter mahan playin with it with that white speeder shaft. does anyone have any more info about this driver?? i need to get my hands on one!

hunter was gaming a black g20 last season to test the finish for the i20 release
it was confirmed last year that it was a tour custom only, but you never know..

There has been a couple threads on this. Consensus is that it will never come to retail market. Been made for several tour players.

Shaft is a Motore Soeeder VC 6.2 or 7.2 tour spec. Higher kick point and tighter than the normal VC .2 series which is a dark purple/black shaft.

Can't believe a manufacturer would come out with a driver that the masses can't get. The public feeds off what the pros play. Make it a special order premium price product. I wouldn't buy it, but you know many would.

I agree I would buy one, it's a great driver and looks great in black. It may not be the correct reason but a lot of people would buy one just beacause of the color.

To bad Ping didn't have the foresight to release the G20 in this finish from the get go, or even as a special edition. They would have sold a bundle more IMHO.

G20 is more closed, I20 more neutral
G20 has more forgiveness

I have to imagine that OEMs are discussing the concept of colorizing drivers as an option....of the idea of manufacturing a driver with multiple color options off the shelf.  It seems like it makes too much sense for them not too. I'm sure there are some players who'd like an R11s or RBZ, but don't want a white club.  And the AMP - couldn't it sell to someone in an all black who likes the club, but isn't into glow-in-the-dark?  And look at the desire for a G20 in black?  

Just seems like customization is the way of the future - after adjustsability.

Aside from the Ion Plating (PVD) sole plate - it's only around 35 bucks and takes about a week.

I've been crazy enough to experiment a few times about a year ago and I've got the process DOWN.  

It's not all that difficult honestly, it just takes a good bit of concentration in masking off the area you're NOT painting and taking your time.  

If I don't love my i20, I'll probably go with the G20 and do something like this...

I talked to a friend of mine who is a Product Planning Manager for Ping when I order my G20 and all he said was for me to show him my "Tour Card" and I can get a black one.
