Hey Brad,

As a fellow Rhody player - what are your favorite courses in the 401?

Also, congrats on a good season for BHS Hockey...

Hi Brad,

thanks for taking the time to join the community.  When your work with someone, like a Gary Woodland, what are you working on?  Also, who do you look to for advice on putting???

Hi Brad,

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to answer a "bunch" of questions haha. I've been having trouble when setting up to putt. When I place my putter behind my ball to line it up before the putt I sometimes tap the ball. Any advice on how to prevent this extra little love tap?

Hey Mr.Faxon!

Since you hold the coveted title of "World's Best Putter", what was the ONE thing that made you better then everyone else?

What kind of relatiponship do you have with Scotty Cameron after all these years? (You should get some kind of commission, haha)

Thanks in advance and this would be a pretty solid birthday present!

This is a good question and a tough one, but the ONE Thing would be TIME!  I have practiced a lot since I was a kid and loved to be on the putting green all the time.   My biggest concern nowadays is too many players are so concerned about the mechanics of their strokes and being too perfect they forget the actual object of putting is to get it in the hole.
And yes, I have a great relationship w Scotty Cameron and Paul Vizanko and Hank and Margaret and everyone else there.  They have really taught me a lot plus they make the best putters in the world

Hi Brad

Thanks for taking the time to spend with us on GolfWRX-it is greatly appreciated.

When you are over a putt, what are you looking at? Are you looking ahead of the ball or where the putter will strike the ball, etc...I have a hard time picking a spot ahead of the ball.

Well Matt, we are lucky to have a lot of great courses in RI and the obvious best in no particular order are RICC, Wanno, Newport, Metacomet, Sakonnet, Carnegie, Shelter Harbor and even a great public course like Triggs.  Big hockey night tonight, semi final game!

Some of the frustrating things about the answers I give is that they won't help the person that asks the question.  I really have no idea what I look at!  Once some famous sports optometrist told me that I would never be any good unless I focused on one dimple on the back of the ball.  I laughed and said really?   Then I asked him if he wanted to have a putting contest!
I definitely don't look ahead of the ball, all I do know is I look down!

Thanks for taking the time today.  We really appreciate it.

What was your putting tempo (BPM)?  Did you count or use any type of word in your head to maintain this tempo or was it just natural?  Did you work on your putting tempo and if so how?

Cheers

That's a good question too, I really hate to say that I "work" with anyone on putting but just like to talk about it.  Gary is an unbelievable athlete and competitor who asked me a few questions.  What I would tell him or anyone else would be or could be very different from what I might tell you.  When I was just starting on Tour I always wanted to play with the games best players and bombard them with questions.  I see less of that now in younger guys because they are already so good but Gary was a little off with his speeds.
His stroke had gotten a little slow and he picked up his pace of his entire stroke and we talked about the approach to putting and routine a little bit

Thanks for the answer Brad-in other words it is what ever would make a person comfortable! Sometimes in reading "instruction" people are set that things need to be done a certain way. Its obvious one size does not fit all in golf!

Thanks for chatting with us, very cool!

Just a quick question on reading break, do you feel it (walk the line of the putt) more or see it (looking at it from all angles) more when you read a putt?

I really enjoyed my time with NBC in 2010 and learned an awful lot from that team.  Miller and Hicks are a great combo in the booth and Gary Koch is really one of the best in the business as a player turned full time announcer.  Maltbie, Pepper, Roberts and Rolf were a blast to work with as well and Tommy Roy and Randolph in production are as hard working as anyone I know.  That being said, it would be very tough to play and broadcast both at the same time and I still love to play.
WEEI is something that has really been fun and surprising at how many people actually listen and comment on what I say!

reading the break might be one of the most difficult things to explain or teach in golf.  There are so many factors like the actual slope, height of cut,, wind, grain, firmness, etc that can affect the break.  Tiger remembers me telling him a long time ago that you have to feel it with your feet!  I guess I may have said that but there is more too it than that.
I do like to read from behind the ball the most but usually go to both sides.  Trusting the first read is usually best!

Hi Mr. Faxon:

I am currently a college player who, ever since I moved out of home and to my new place, have struggled greatly to find my game again. Any advice? Also, I am a right handed player/left eye dominant, is there and specifics I should be looking into when choosing a putter? Currently game a newport 2.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Brad,

Any advice for an aspiring junior who wants to be a pro golfer?

What things did you do in the early years to set yourself apart from the competition?

Any tips on the mental side of golf?

Thanks

If I have 5 to 10 minutes I would hit some longer putts in both directions to get the speeds down into and against grain or slope and then I would hit shorter, breaking putts going thru my full routine that I would use on the course so that when I get on the first green I feel like I have been practicing what I need to do on the course!
