So I really want to get on the sam putt lab here locally luckily there is one very close.

I am a competition golfer whos looking for an edge so I thought I could check out the sam putt lab

however from alot of friends and guys i see at tournaments.. the teacher at the local course .. or the certified sam putt lab instructor isnt exactly top notch.

he offers 3 packages (stroke diagnostics, diagnostics + lesson , diagnostics + fitting)

obviously diagnostics is the most affordable at only $25 with lesson $100 and fitting 75

would I be able to come away with enough information for me to work on and improve my own putting stroke with just a stroke diagnostics (it says he will recommend training aides and stuff? or should i opt for the other packages?

thanks in advance... this will be my first time to actually take a closer look at my putting kinda excited

I would opt for diagnostics & fitting.  The fitting can be very helpful to to eliminate/minimize some of the weaknesses.  If you know you have the right tool in your hands and your aim & alignment are good you are ahead of 85% of the golf universe.

A SAM putting lab evaluation is the best money I ever spent on my putting.

Can't fix what you don't know is broke.

Proceed with confidence with either package.

Have the guy print off the results as well as email them to you if he can.

Nice to have them saved away for future reference.

How did you find that? I have been looking for a putt lab in the western PA area and can't find anything - but i'm not sure how to look either really.

Try sending a PM to PuttingDoctor - he's the East Coast rep for SAM (at least he covers my club) - might be able to help you locate one.

I plan to visit the SAM Lab in Tappan NY as a birthday gift.  My bday is next month, and with spring being right around the corner, this should be a perfect birthday gift.

Guys, I'm here to help.... :)

The web locator is here too http://scienceandmot...dex.php?lang=en

When you have a SAM analysis done keep it simple 5 strokes.  Ask the location to email the Extended Print Report to you.  It will come as a PDF file.

To many strokes tends to make the reports harder to read and also narrow the averages.

If you want further analysis then you should contact me off line via email at GlenCoombe@PuttingDoctor.net

I did a SAM PuttLab fitting and it was pretty informative.

Here are my numbers

I took 7 strokes.

Face at Aim: 0.5 degree open
Face at Impact: 1.0 degree open

Club head rotation:

Start fwd swing: 7.2 degrees open
Impact: 1.0 degree open
End of swing: 11.9 degrees closed

Rotation at Impact: -43.1 degrees/sec

Putter path direction: 0.6 degrees left

Impact spot: 6.7 mm toe

Shaft angle: 4.2 degrees deloft
Rise angle: 3.0 degrees upward

Based on these results I was suggested a mallet type putter with toe hang and the options were metal-x #6 and del mar(length 34.5, 5degrees loft, 73 degrees lie). I still haven't decided on which one to buy. Any other putter suggestions based on these numbers?

Some of these numbers are really helpful to improve my putting. I would have never guessed that I was delofting the putter so much and also toe impact.

I would recommend SAM putt lab over any other putter fitting. I did a few other putter fittings before and trust me they are not even close to how much information SAM putt lab provides.

Whats the average diagnosis costs you paid for SAM PuttLab? And did your location give you a simple analysis option -- or did you have to pay for the "hour lesson including analysis" ??

I just did it as part of my whole bag fitting at club champion. I took advantage of their promotion and paid only 105$ for the entire bag.

Usually its 100$ for the SAM putter fitting and I don't think they do lessons.

Aviash, remember the numbers you are giving are AVERAGEs and not the exact numbers unless you are very highly automated.  The new scoring for the upcoming revision to SAM PuttLab 5 will base scores on distribution of putts vs. average and in this way will improve what we see in score numbers greatly from a scientific standpoint.

For the amount of deloft vs. rise the loft looks about right... but again I'd like to see how consistent the deloft and rise are before locking it down.  One wild putt can send the numbers sideways and that's why we are able to trash can a putt to look better at the normal tendency vs. one or two bad putts that throw the numbers off.

Rates for SAM vary from market to market and not everyone charges $150 and hour like me :)

Tim, not quite shocking but puzzling none the less.  Not on the locator is the new flagship store for Golf Galaxy in Grapevine, TX just north of DFW.
