Testing: SeeMore MX5 CS Long Putter
Introduction:
I am a long time "long putter" user. I passed my PGA PAT in 2004 with one and have used them on and off since the late 1990's. My favorite model all time is the Ping B90i. It's a great putter with decent weight, but its shortcoming is the lack of alignment aides and it's hard to tell if the head is really square to your line. I have played the Kombi, 2Ball and Rife models in a long putter and everything that Ping has made. When I am not using a long a putter I prefer a Seemore as the alignment system is hard to beat. Seemore's long putter offerings in the past were nice but did not excite me that much. However, upon seeing the new M5X CS, I was really excited.
PROS:
The club is gorgeous. The Black/Blue gunmetal "like" finish is amazing to look at and while you might think it would be too shiny to play the way the light folds on the putter negates any glare. The alignment aides that Seemore uses are top notch and there is NO question where this putter is pointed. Weight, Balance and Grip are very well thought out and work.
CONS:
I do not have a con on this club except in the headcover. I think in the long putter it needs a mallet cover with a sock that will protect the black portion of the shaft. On other Seemore models the black portion of the shaft is protected by the golf bag itself, but in the long putter the black section is exposed. My irons are going to rattle against this section if I am not careful. Price may be an issue with some players, BUT I can tell you this is a high quality piece of artwork that feels and plays it value well past the dollar spent. I am certain it will pay for itself this year.
BOTTOM LINE:
The putter is point and shoot. I am not sure there is a better long putter made…period.
LOOK:
As noted the club is gorgeous and set up behind the ball is completely confidence inspiring. My old Ping was a little vague on set-up as the head was so big and cumbersome, but the Seemore is anything but that. It's compact and clean and tells you where you are pointed. The line's both on the club in and those used in the rifle scope technology are very crisp.
PERFORMANCE:
I usually know quickly when I use a club if it will work for me and I have had the chance to roll this for two rounds. That is not a large sample but it took me zero time to get comfortable with this putter's look and feel. For two rounds I can honestly say I did not miss a putt I felt I should have made. That is a hard thing to say when you walk off the course because we always leave some putts on the deck. However, I made my par saves and I made the birdie looks that I felt I had to make. My distance control and line were spot on. The ball feels soft coming off the face without a mushy feeling. The grip (I have no idea who makes it) is superior in feel and size. It is also refreshing it's not colored like a rainbow so it is no way distracting to the job at hand. Aside from the pics there is a link to a you-tube video I shot where I am using this putter and demonstrating how I like a long putter to work for me.

FEEL:
This putter's weight and finish made even crappy balls feel good and premium balls feel like they were actually worth the money we spend on them. The face even shows impact positions from the ball after its struck (wipes right off). More importantly there is nothing VAGUE about where I hit the ball or how it comes off the face.
OVERALL BOTTOM LINE:
This may be the perfect long putter. It has the alignment aides and feel my Ping B90i lacked in a compact and drop dead gorgeous package. It also does not look like a satellite dish or have some strange unnecessary markings or fuzzy feeling inserts. My only gripe would be the headcover and I know I am going to worry about the shaft getting dinged up. That problem I will address with a sock style headcover. I know honeymoon periods are a part of golf club reviews, but I have been looking for a long putter that met all my criteria for quite some time and I know this is the model.
