I think you may be confused.  The kid is top 13 in the NATION for the class of 2013...

Yeah, pretty sure Alexxx is very very confused. Stratton most likely can go wherever he wants and make a significant impact.

And I lose sleep about shafts and such...dude rocking a basic blueboard from 5 years ago and a "made for" in one of his woods..

I suck.  He rules.  Less thinking.  More golfing.

This guy is awesome. He doesn't wear the flashy clothes (which is great IMO) but has a better game than most of the young guys on Tour. I look forward to watching him tee it up and can't wait until he turns pro. This guy has a ton of potential.

I was surprised to see that he has PX 6.0 shafts in his irons. I play those and they feel great to me but i dont think i hit the ball nearly as far as he does... i thought he'd have at least 6.5's or maybe even 7's.

Interesting playing MFT shafts...  Maybe they aren't as crappy as some keep saying?

When I was fitted at Titleist the fitter told me that the Diamana Ahina MFT was stiffer then the real deal without either of them tipped.

It's exciting to see the future of the game unfolding. Followed him in the past at the Nelson and he seems genuinely nice. Looking forward to him playing there again (hopefully). This week paired with Ryo Ishikawa and Danny Lee. Good stuff.

You misunderstood.  The shaft chart at Titleist.com shows that the Made-for needs .5" taken off the tip to get close to the Characteristics of the $400 real Ahina.

Well, that's the rub. The difference is these guys don't have a day job. They golf 90% of the time and go to school the rest of the time, they are too busy to worry about equipment. If I was goilfing 8 - 10 hours a day (and I have in the past for months at a time) I would worry a heck of a lot less about my equipment. They also have access to fittings whenever they want really so they know what they are gaming is working, there is no second guessing.

No true. I owned two D3's at the same time, one with each 'ahina. The MFT was softer, and I actually liked it a lot more.

Hmmm... I guess I should have rephrased that. I meant that at his age, to have already played so well in the few tournaments that he has played in, IMO shows me alot more potential then the younger guys (under 25). To come out and play so well as an Am, where you are the center of attention, and do well... that just shows me that he has a great head on his shoulders. Those guys have game, but they're not any different then someone like Cantlay or Spieth. The guys on tour that stand out (Fowler for example) are great for the game, a breath of fresh air. But I wouldn't pick him over these two. I know that trying to predict how well someone will do over their career (which hasn't even started for Jordan Spieth) is a very bold move, but I just drank a Dr. Pepper and I'm feeling bold. I don't think that it will take either of these guys too many starts when they go pro (whether on the Nationwide or Pga tour) to get their first win.

Being a pro isn't all talent.  He has to be mentally mature enough or he'll get swallowed in the abyss of early failure.  Tryon and Wie are good cautionary tales.

I like his shaft choices.  Says a lot about the smoothness of his swing.  And perhaps that his genotype is ho-negative?

I mean, Spieth is stupid good, but Matteo is the same age (18) and has already won on the Euro Tour. Ryo is 20. Yea JS is a great amateur but these guys already have a head start on the pro game.

Be careful going by what is stamped on the shaft. He may be a college golfer but he is fully fitted by professional club builders at Titleist. There is no telling what the shaft is and if it is for retail sales or not.

Well open your mind to the history of good amateur players.  Speith is good, but he won JUNIOR AM's and while I'm not saying that isn't impressive....it's not like he went out and won a Tour event as an amateur.  Daniel Summerhays, Harris English and Russell Henley all have won events as amateurs on the Nationwide Tour.  Danny Lee and Pablo Martin won on the European Tour as amateurs.  Speith has made a couple cuts and has a T16 and a T32 and 2 MC's in 4 events....I wouldn't exactly be crowing him the king just yet.  But we'll let your Texas bias slide!  Posted Image  As with any good amateur.....time will tell.  It's a lot harder to take the Tour by storm these days.  Who was the last player to have a freakish amateur career and just transition to the Tour with the same dominance? One guy, Tiger Woods.  Charles Howell III, Ryan Moore, Colt Knost, Case Wittenberg, Anthony Kim, Aaron Baddeley, Danny Lee, Pablo Martin...the list goes on.  It's a tough game on the big Tour.  Wish the guy the best of luck and I wish I had opportunities and successes like he has, at his age.  Posted Image
