i golf with an investor thats worked with wilson and he told me that they dont have enough money to go after the bigger players and for marketing they try to let their products do the work. i love their irons, one of the best feeling irons out there. im convinced that if players werent payed to use equipment, there would be so many more wilson players

I don't get that Wilson one of the biggest sporting goods companies in the US. Why wouldn't they spend to increase sells?? I totaly agree some of the best irons out right now. Need to go after someone big and invest in a huge marketing campain. Can't wait to get a try at the new V2's right shaft and they are in the bag.

Love their clubs too, actually will have my V2/FG62 irons with C-Taper combo this week and can't wait to try them out. From talking with my guys at Wilson at the PGA it sounded like they do plan on adding more names to the tour staff. Also mentioned they got Adams Golf top two club guys on their staff now to revamp their wood line. I think if these guys get their woods re-vamped and add a few key tour stars, they will be huge again.

Absolutely love my FG Tour.  Can't wait to stick C-tapers in them !! Don't see myself going with anything else.  Unless the V2's are that much better.  Which is impossible ;)

Wilson TO me that has "walmart" sort of name brand
you know, the cheap set that comes w all three woods, irons, putter and a bag for $199

i know they make quality stuff for sure, but i dont think i could play it (yes im a snob)

on another note, Barnes is a stud

The lack of a solid wood lineup has hurt Wilson to a certain degree as has their broad market presence - everything from top of the line to K-mart. The low exposure on tour might be an issue too.

If you really think about it however, these three qualities also describe one of the most heralded and highly respected manufacturers of irons ever - Mizuno. Although they may not have put out as many low end clubs over the years as Wilson, I would equate Mizuno in Japan with Wilson (traditionally) in the U.S. Pretty similar companies.

By the way, Wilson has made and continues to make some of the best irons in the business. If I could afford them I would be playing the FG Tours (V1) right now.

Wilson yes, Wilson Staff no. That is the biggest problem, people associate Wilson Staff which is a high quality line with Wilson which truly is designed for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot or care much about the clubs.

Remember what you find in Walmart and KMart are the cheap department store offerings from Wilson.  The real player's line is the Wilson Staff clubs we see in the hands of better golfers.  Don't mix the two.

They have enough money to continue to bring quality forgings to the market. I even liked the older pi's

I switched from Burner 2.0's and Cleveland CG11 wedges to Wilson Staff Ci11's and TW9 wedges. Both of them perform as good or better than anything else I've tried and/or played.

I read fairly recently that Wilson Staff paid Paddy "multi-millions" to play the clubs, so there is obviously some money there to be spent for the right people.  There has also been an increase in TV ads and Mag ads for the new ranges, but I agree that much more needs to be done.

The brand seems to want to stick to the nice-guy players, clean-cut............someone like Adam Scott or Steve Stricker would be ideal to join the Staff, but I guess it would take a huge amount of money to drag them away from Titleist (who they seem happy with), and it goes back to the fact that Wilson Staff don't have (or don't want to spend) that type of money.

Shame as the irons are awesome.  I play the FG Tour V2s and adore them!

I played the FG 62's and now the V2's and they are superb!
Most people associate Wilson with department store branding such as Walmart, but the Wilson Staff is the high-end line.
You will never find a Wilson Staff product in a Walmart or Target!
The Staff's are a treat to strike balls with!!

My last 2 iron sets have been Wilson Staff.  Got started with Di-7's, which kicked the Callaway X-22's out of the bag, now I'm gaming the Ci-9's.  I'm looking to maybe give the FG Tours a go soon.  I think Wilson Staff will get bigger if they win more obviously, a huge name gaming their stuff would help tons.  Could you imagine how they would take off if they landed someone like Mickelson, or Mahan?  That's probably a BIG money contract, but, they'd be out front almost every weekend.

Wilson sells equipment for multiple sports. Wilson needs apparel either under another name or under the staff.  How th ehell does anyone know you play wilson without some nice clothes saying so.  It really hurts that they haven't been a blip on the radar for drivers since the pd5.  The irons and wedges are nice. I own their TW9, fybrid, fairways, and 2 pd5 8.5 and 10.5.  I don't hit the irons cause I got the xforged.

The dxi is my current gamer and it is a cannon. Check out my post in the club making section. I'm getting perfect numbers with it.

Of course I had to get rid of the stock shaft. It still baffles me there new hybrids come with a sick UST VTS but the drivers have terrible stock shafts. VooDoo? Ozik? It's 2012. Seriously.
