With both of these irons having been released for a few months now, what is the verdict here...... which irons do you prefer and why?

Have both.  More ability to flight ball down when needed with the MP 59's then the AP2's with same shafts.  Both very forgiving.

The mp-59 felt great but I hit the AP2's so much better! But you can't make a wrong choice between the 2.

I would agree with the AP2 as more forgiving, but I only "notice" it in the 3 and 4 iron. (the ones I mis hit the most).  I like the short irons in the MP 59's so much more, and the seem as forgiving as the AP2's

Went with AP2 712 for forgiveness.  Just not playing as much since becoming a father and the Titleist were more forgiving for me.  Best of both worlds with the 712's.

I demoed both recently for a side-by-side comparison and used both DG S300 and PX 5.5, and the AP2 was a touch more forgiving on mishits. With that being said, the feel and sound of the MP59 on pure shots was just amazing. Oh, and the Mizuno looks so much better in person than in pictures. The pro who was fitting me said that everyone who tried hitting the MP59s had the same exact grin as I apparently did...

You can't go wrong either way, but the MP59 WILL be my next set very soon.

I've demo'd them side by side and the AP2 are significantly more forgiving in my opinion.  I purposefully hit a few towards the toe and heel and ball speed dropped noticably more with the MP59.

The AP2 are just as workable left to right but they will fly higher than the MP59 and still have a "players" look to them.

For me, I like the extra forgiveness and the feel is still very good so it was an easy decision.

When I got fitted last year I hit the MP59, 710 AP2 and S56. The 712AP2 don't seem to be a revolution, more an evolution of the old AP2's, hence my response. I hit all three irons similarly well. Couldn't find much difference between the feel of the 3 sets either, but just loved the way the MP59's looked. Therefore I went with the Mizuno's (funny thing, at the end of the fitting session it was between the Mizuno and the Ping. At this point I was getting pretty tired, so my last 5 swings with both clubs were not the best of the day. However, the mizunos had a spread of 5 to 10 meters, while the Pings were all over the place. Very strange, but another reason to go with the MP59's)

Need I say more?  MP59s make the AP2s look like shovels.  I do find the AP2s a bit chunky as well.

I had planned on purchasing the 59's and I demoed both and personally preferred the AP2 over the MP59's, although the 59's have a much thinner, eye pleasing top line. I was just unable to put a solid strike on consecutive balls with the 59's. I walked away with the 712 CB, all had the s300 shafts. It's so personal, you have to try them for yourself, outside so you can feel turf interaction and see the ball flight.

I have a set (2 actually) of AP2 712s one with s300s and 1 with tour concepts that I was fitted for.

After a few outdoor range sessions and indoor sim time I'm really not that sold on them for some reason.  Every time I look at the 59s I smile.

My 2012 bag is wide open right now but I want it set by Feb 1st.  Really how much more forgiving are the 712s compared to the MP59s in the long irons (Dont care about forgivness from 6-PW).  I love hitting my 3 iron from the tee.

Another thing is the Mizuno clubs fit me perfect off the rack with lie angles and my desired lofts - the 712s are bent 2 flat and 1 strong and with my somewhat OCD I'm seeing a bent club that looks funny.

Don't do it KG I want to have matching clubs in our match against team Michigan. Seriously they aren't that much more forgiving but definitely noticeable in the 3 and 4 in my opinion.  59's are very blade like but they are phenomenal feeling clubs.

haha.  Well see I have a few weeks to decide! Team Mich will be tough to beat - I played with them last year - OD is smooth and 3jackpar kills it.  1ton and a few others were in the group ahead but I'm sure they could all play.  I only had 1 birdie in 15 holes but with my new swing I should be much better - I'm hoping 2 HC this year very doable.

And ya I'm probably getting MP59s!

I wouldn't necessarily call Ap2's "Chunky". Squater heel to toe yes, chunky not so much. 59's look thinner but longer. Actually 59's look very similar to Cobra S3 Pro's side by side.
