Callaway 2012 RAZR X Black Driver

Per Callaway:
With the RAZR X Black Driver, Callaway has crafted a club that looks just as mean as it behaves. This new driver features Forged Composite material in the crown and Distance Trajectory Weighting that promotes premium conditions for maximum distance in a high launch, low spinning ball flight. Designed for golfers who want the ultimate in speed and accuracy off the tee, the RAZR X Black Driver also incorporates a Black PVD Finish for a look that’s just flat-out, head-turning cool.

Callaway 2012 RAZR X Black Fairway Woods
Per Callaway:
Designed for golfers who like their fairway woods to have some attitude, RAZR X Black Fairway Woods come with looks and speed that inspire total confidence and deliver the long distance and pinpoint accuracy needed to attack the course. These fairway woods have a large footprint with a deep face and Aggressive VFT Technology that increases the size of the sweet spot and generates hotter ball speeds. RAZR X Black Fairway Woods also feature Traditional Inspired Styling with dark graphics and a Full-length hosel for a strong look at address.

Like the fairway wood.  Driver, not so much.  Any head size specs on the fw's?

Callaway making their own shaft kinda scares me. Also, why is the hosel on the driver black and the hosel on the FW chrome?

Golf Digest listed the price of this driver at $250.  It will probably scare some people off thinking the low price somehow relates to quality.  But if this plays better than the premium performer Diablo Octane it's replacing, this might be one of the steals of the new year.  I'm leaning towards Fit just because of adjustability, but this one will be tried as well.

This looks like the same stuff they've put out the last couple of years, going back to the Diablo Edge/Edge tour.  Not really impressive and the stock shafts are just terrible.

They are designed for the guy who's happy to make decent contact about 2 out of 10 drives, wants more distance cuz he nevers hits par 4 GIR and could care less about adjustability or shaft options. And is somewhat price conscience.   So Callaway doesn't really worry about what players who don't fit those demographics has to say about this driver, fairway & irons.

Greg

I understand the market, but I'd contend that it's very much a rehash of that same design over the past so many iterations, and that the market for people who don't care about shafts is dwindling every day.  Any major seller of golf equipment, from small pro shops to big box stores to even Dicks exposes shaft options to potential customers nowadays.  Is it the same exposure that we get here?  Absolutely not, but it's out there and there are definitely cheap shaft options for high handicap/low swing speed players that can better benefit them for consistency reasons alone than something like this.

I understand the defense of Callaway, but in this case I think it's fair to call them out.  The DET was a great head, but it never did well, despite it's price point.  I would say a lot of that had to do with everything from the hosel up, and not the other way around.

The sticks look good, but also look like a lot more of the same, and are pretty much the opposite of where a lot of OEM's are going now (thankfully).

Don't be jealous, I "might" let you hit my Fit when I get it just so you can see how woefully shorter and less accurate your TaylorMade driver is in comparison.

Don't like the look of the driver at all, but the fairway looks great. In fact, I think it looks far better than the Razr Fit fairway.

Funny.......I hit the RaZR Black way better than the RAZR Fit.
RAZR Black was a rocket for me. I lauched and 8.5 way higher than the 9.5 Razr Fit. Felt hotter to me also.

Edit for spelling...

JWF

I remember when you said exactly that many months ago when you first gave us a sneak peak up close with them JWF.  http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/513038-2012-callaway-drivers/  I'm very interested to see if the same holds true for me.  I'm one of the few who preferred the Diablo Octane to the Razr Hawk (I kept my DOT but sold my RHT).  The Razr X Black might be a best of all worlds driver for the most people?

I can see why Callaway is heading down.  Great looking products, but they have to work on their presentation.  "We also spent alot of time on the asethetics ...so it looks better?"

Like several others, I really like the looks of the FW. But I actually think the driver also looks pretty nice except for the red alignment marks on top.

I can't wait to try the Razr Black!  FIT is getting all the attention, but I think/hope this is the darkhorse of the season, it sure looks bada$$!!!
