We are thinking about taking a trip to Hammock Beach Resort in Fla.  Has anyone ever stayed there, as well played the Ocean and Conservatory Courses?  I would like to know what your thoughts are on the property, and some places to out after the rounds.
Thanks

Hey,

Stayed and played the Ocean Course about 10 years ago, before there was a Conservatory Course. There were 8 of us, and we rented condos. It was fantastic.

We still talk about that trip to this day. I read somewhere here a year or so ago, that the Conservatory course was only open 2 or 3 days a week due to lack of play.

That may have changed now. But a great place to play golf, but I don't remember there being much in the way of night life aroung there. There were a couple of

bars in the palace we stayed in. Good luck!

Played the Ocean Course today. Great condition, a real treat with the 6 holes along the ocean. I actually prefer the Conservatory. Great test of golf, longest in the state of Florida from the tips. Always in fantastic condition.

Depending on how many guys you have will determine the best accomodations to get. They have three and four bedroom suites (condos).

Stayed in a condo and played the ocean course twice.  One of my best experiences to date, highly recommend it.  I was there in 2007 for reference.

Twenty of us stayed and played there last winter and it was top notch.  We played both courses and even though they have different "feels" they were both great.  We also stayed in the condos and they were great.  We didn't go off property - we were too tired both nights.  We ordered pizza one night and ate together and watched football and ate in one of the restaurants the other night.  We made our own breakfast in the condos.  One of our best trips to date, and this group has been around!

Thanks for all the replies fellas.  This sounds like a no brainer for us then.  By condos do you guys mean the villas?  That's what we were looking at.

J,

I don't think they called them villas. They were full blown condos. They were huge, like 1200-1500 sq ft. Beautiful facility. You'll have a blast!

Don't book a Villa. Book a suite. The villas are smaller and only have 2 bathrooms. The suites are 2100 sq ft with 3 bathrooms and ocean views, and are in the main building.

So are these the ones in Cinnamon Beach?  Did you book through the resort or rent separately?

Just want to make sure we do the right thing

I didn't handle that part of the trip, so I really can't say pal. Sorry.

Back in those days it was also Ocean Hammock Resort I believe.

I believe they called the them The Main Tower Suites. Pools in and outdoor, spa, steam room, the whole shamozzle!

Book through the resort, reserve a suite in the main building. Cinnamon Beach is way out of the way, off property.

Hammock Beach Resort is outstanding.  Both courses are outstanding. I prefer the Conservatory course, but the beauty and design of the Ocean Course is top notch as well.  Being so close to Hammock Beach, I've been fortunate to play each course 8-10 tiimes in the last 4 years.

The entire resort is fantastic. Living in Orlando and only 90 minutes away, I've taken the wife and kids there a few times for a long weekend.

Regards,
Scott

I am going there this May for Memorial Day.  I have 2 rounds at the Ocean and 2 at the Conservatory already lined up.  Glad to hear they are top notch.

I played 6 months ago and TBO, found the course to be fairly unspectacular. No doubt the course is in top notch shape without a speck of crabgrass within 2 miles of the place. The holes along the ocean are great views and it's not too often in the US and especially FL you'll have a chance to play on the ocean. The layout just seems gimmicky and if the course wasn't on the ocean it probably wouldn't the rave reviews it seems to get. It was fun to play once and had a great time with my Dad and brother, I probably will not be running out to play again.

To be fair, as far as course designers go, Jack is one of my least favorite.

I will try and play the conservatory one of these day, it sounds like it's the better of the two.

The accommodations are top notch, we had a 3 bedroom suite, full kitchen and a living room. The restaurant and bar stays open all night with a friendly staff, food was very good. If you do play the ocean course, go hit the restaurant overlooking the ocean to get things started right in the morning.

Ballpark on pricing for stay and play w/ 36 per day?  My buddies are heading to Florida this year for our annual golf trip.  I'm in Tampa and am looking for different options for a long weekend.
