A few of us Golfwrx members had persimmon woods refinished recently by Dave Wood.  Dave was the founder of Wood Bros, a company that made custom persimmon woods in the 80s and 90s.  I had an early Wood Bros Texan prototype that was in good shape refinished as well as a 1954 M85W driver and a Wood Bros hand made 3 wood from 1984. They came out great. I look fwd to seeing Bella's and Rex's clubs..

A very nice touch Dave does with his refinish is initial his work on the neck over the finish coat.  Very original and I think a real bonus. Last pic shows his initials.

freddiec:

Very Nice! My favorite is the club with the red/white/red
insert. I have always loved that color combination with the
insert.

Bella will post his club tommorow when I have some daylight
to take pictures.

The restoration is just remarkable on the M/T M85 driver. The fit of the insert is "seamless". The toe stampings are "smooth edged" and for the most part "uniform". Geezz... mine look like I'm using a chisel and not nearly as uniform in width as Daves. The face/stain separation is a  nice straight line. My face/stain line is "jagged". Just a really nice restoration. I have lots to learn.

Here are 2 more pic of my early 80s Fairway instrument. (3 wood). Dave really loves this club and spent a very long time on the refinish of this one. The Wood Bros sig. was just a slight ghost print prior to the refinish because of a previous refinish. He re engraved the "Wood Bros" all by hand.  I'll be forever grateful for his art work on this beauty.  He also mentioned he thought this particular 3 wood was one of his best 3 woods he's ever made.  Dave is such a professional and a super nice guy.

The M85 pictured above I purchased about 5 years ago. Its part of a complete set that still has all orig grips and shafts. I've played the driver a lot and its still plays as good as it did 50 years ago.  Its one of my favorite drivers.  If anybody was curious about Dave's process of refinish, its posted on his site. Max, it sure is an art and Dave is by far the best at it. I think the toe stamp on the M85 looks great. He doesn't dig it out like some people might, he preferred to leave the stamp the way it was, which I can appreciate.

The Wood Bro's driver with the Red/White/Red insert will be traveling to Colorado in the very near future.  :^)

Now if I can get my hands on a fairway instrument.

You lucky dog Robot Doctor! Its a beautiful persimmon wood.

I bet Fred never parts with that set of M75s though.
