Our Member #45 Mr. "LeftRev" or Mike asked if it was ok to post these. He didn't want to because it might cross the line of promotions but as a member #45 he can get away with anything right??? I will post for him. Thanks Mike.

After long, great years as a member of GolfWRX, there are few introductions in golf that really excite me.  The revival of Jones Sports Company and their golf bags has done just that. I posted a photo in a 'Bag' forum thread sent at my request by the Lemman family.  The Lemmans [father and two sons] bought the rights to Jones from McKennon Golf.  The new Jones Website is not up yet, so I want to send along
these two POP photos.

That's awesome. I had several Jones bags back in the day. I'm excited to see what they have in store and I may dive in for old times sake.  Thx Rich and Rev.

I had a Jones golf bag my freshman year in high school.  It looked like the original bag but had a stand.  I put an Izzo strap (remember those?) on that bad boy and it was ready to go.

I was surprised when they stopped making them. Glad to see they are back.

Funny, Mckennon bought the rights last year and had some prototypes on their facebook page.  Then the sell the rights to the Lemmans?  Mike McKennon was pretty pumped to bring these out again.  Looks like he sold.  Anyone know the story?

I'm a bit of the younger crowd as I've never heard of Jones before.  Would love some background on them if someone has the time.  Would also like to know more about these bags.  Love the minimalist look.

I am not familiar with the Jones Sports Company either.  Any background would be appreciated.

Great looking bags!

Jones garnered a good market share in the high school and college team business at one time in their history...offering durable, minimalist type bags with team logos.  You could order a variety of colors and even request certain top divider options.  My Jones bags [ I still have one] have lasted a very long time.  I found a profile of the company on the internet but am not sure when it was written:

"Since 1971, Jones Golf has focused on making golf bags that enhance the  golfer's experience - bags that address the player's needs so precisely  and dependably, that they become almost invisible, requiring no wasted  thought or effort. For two generations of golfers, Jones Golf bags have  set the standard for what a golf bag should look like and how it should  function. These classic bags, often custom embroidered for country clubs  and college teams, continue to be the choice of golfers who want their  bag to be more than advertisement for a brand of clubs. Jones Golf  prides itself on its defining bag traits, such as intuitive pocketing  that places everything right where a golfer needs it."

I hope this helps introduce Jones to our younger members who have never heard of the company.

Rev.

Best of Luck to the new ownership! I confess to both not having heard of Jones bags and not being exactly young so thanks for the history leftrev.

They were "the Bag" before Ping bags became the carry bag of choice for high school & college golf teams.

THanks for the pics!  I loved my High School and college Jones Bags from the 80' and early 90's.  I may have to order these for my college team in the future...

Got one of these when I played the 1987 Junior Worlds at Torrey Pines, used it for 6 or 7 years still my favourite carry bag of all time, had a great balance to it. Old School often over stated but in this case is best!

That was the key....and still is for a good carry bag. The balance of the Jones' was great. They never ended up top heavy where your clubs were always sliding out.

Here are a few pics from there Facebook page:

Great news.
I remember when they were the top carry bag,
no High School or College player would have
anything esle.

Remember those fondly.  My teammates and I at Byron (MI) High School won a state championship in 1991 carrying the Jones bags.  Colors were purple and gold!  Quite a combo!

Glad to see these are back. The bags look great from the pictures.

Why is the one guy with the black bag wearing capri's?

Are these new bags going to be different from the old ones in any way? (i.e. different material, dividers, et cetera)

Many of you have fond memories of "Jones" bags, but mine are the exact opposite.

When I was playing high school golf in the late 90s, the Ping carry bags were first making splash.  You just HAD to have one.  Well, nearly every school did, except us...and we still had their archaic Jones bags.  I hated that thing.  Finally, as a senior, I went on "strike" and told the coach I was carrying my own Ping carry bag.

I'll admit, the "vintage" has of course come back, so the new Jones line isn't bad...but I hated those things back then!!!

I still have one of the old ones. My old Ping carry bag finally wore out, so when I walk I use the Jones. Not into the whole double strap thing. Just me, but I prefer the older carry bags like the Jones and the Ping L8.

I don't do double straps either. Jones' single wide strap was awesome. Hopefully, the new offerings will be the same.
