I'm going to be playing as a guest at a club that I am considering joining next spring. Most of my cool weather golf attire (which I'll need for this round), is logo attire from a different local club (gifts from the in-laws). Is it bad form to wear this stuff as a guest (and potential new member)? Just trying to figure out if I need to head out to a local golf shop over lunch sometime this week ...

Not at all. I don't think it matters that much unless someone specifically brings it up, in which case cool weather gear (a polo?) can easily be swapped out for something plain. I've never heard anybody giving Tom Watson a hard time for not actually playing polo, even though his attire would suggest otherwise.

Nope.  I just got back from Maui and went to the Kaanapali end of the season tent sale.  I got a sweater and 3 pullovers with their logo for $100.  I wear them all the time at my home club.

No problem at all. If it was a problem I wouldn't be joint that club.  You will have plenty of time to stock up on that club's attire if/when you join it.

As a guest no,,

As a potential new member, (especially if its an exclusive private club), I might forego a competing club's logo attire.  Why flaunt another club's logo if you are actually considering joining.  Surely you have some other inclement weather options.

Nope. Shouldn't be an issue. If it is then take that into consideration before joining.

I know a guy that will not wear any Standard Club gear when he plays at Peachtree but that's probably the exception.

I say your safe to wear whatever you want within the club rules.

If they inquire about the logo on your shirt you mite use it to your advantage. Say something like, "Oh yeah, I was there last week and they really wanted me to join so they gave me this shirt and offered me a 30% discount on initiation fee and a flat 100 bux a month dues. You guys have anything like that?".

I'd love to rock up in some Augusta National apparel and just be like "oh yes..."

If anything I wouldn't wear members stuff if I wasn't a member already - might seem a bit presumptuous in assuming you are going to get in!!

Some clubs have exclusive stuff that only members can wear/buy

The above reminds me of one of the old Groucho Marks quotes, "Please accept my resignation. I don't care to belong to any club that will accept me as a member".

Most every item worn or handled by a golfer during a round is logoed, down to the socks, tees and divot tool. Why worry about one more?

Thanks for the responses guys! Saves me a trip to the golfstore ...

As a bonus, it's looking like I might actually have better weather than I thought, so the point may be moot.

It is a logo, if you bare being judged by a logo I would look elsewhere to join. I used to wear other clubs logos when I worked as an assistant!

Couple of golf course logo rules:

1. Don't wear more than 2 at a time.
2. If you wear 2, they shouldn't be the same course....unless you're a member.
3. No bag tag older than a week, unless you're a member.
4.  A logoed golf bag is a no-no, unless you're a member, but logoed headcovers are ok from any course.

thats just because the Standard Club is a jewish club and Peachtree isn't very fond of jews.  Even this is unnecessary though.  My dad played Peachtree earlier this week with his Standard Club stuff on.

It's not cool wearing you home club logo at your home club. Try to avoid that when possible, not unacceptable though.
Wear your home clubs logo when you travel and other clubs logos when your home.

It's a little deeper than just that in his case. He would like to be invited to become a member. He plays there a lot because his brother in law is a member. He even goes to church on Sunday now just in case he gets invited to become a member and has to go through the review process. I can't judge. I'd probably do the same.

I would say not at all.  The only time I can see it possibly being an issue is if you a member at a private club, and you are wearing a shirt with logo of the rival private club in the same town.  That might get under some of the other members skin but even that I wouldn't really worry about.

That's sad in all kinds of ways.
Then again, if all the good christians attended church, it'd make it easier for us sinners to get a decent tee time on Sunday mornings.

Which is probably why he hasn't been invited, yet.  Peachtree is pretty small in terms of active membership.  If his brother-in-law is a member and his name ever came up as a potential member, they'd already know he was a Standard Club member.  The fact that he is trying to hide it and that he is attending church on Sunday just in case is probably hurting him more than helping him.

Why not just be himself?  Peachtree is a fine golf course and there are some good people there, but if I felt like I had to change myself that much to get in, I'd say "F___ 'em," and enjoy some of the other fine courses our state has to offer.

Wear your home clubs logo when you travel and other clubs logos when your home.
So its not cool to wear my home logo thats on all the merchandise my home course sells that I buy to support my home course that helps keep my home course running?
Is that correct?

Our club pro wears a Royal County Down jacket in his shop at our course. I don't think that's right as he is paid by us. I don't care if members wear other club jumpers though. I personally wouldn't but then again I only wear a club jumper when I'm representing club in tournaments.
