Looking for longer, straighter drives? Bet you never thought it was as simple as sucking your stomach in.

As part of the "You've Tried It" feature on the Golf Digest Instruction Blog, one of our readers shared this piece of advice with us: Stimulating your core muscles (and feeling tension in the mid-abdominal section) can create a solid base of support for your body to swing around.

Also called activating your abs.Just suck in your belly button a little and hold.To train your ability to do this, get down on all fours, quickly exhale as much as you can ,really suck your stomach in as far as you can and hold for 10 seconds while you are also holding your breath.5 reps.Works on the TA muscle.Helps to stabilize your posture as you go back and down

Long drive boys use to do this back in the day, locking / connecting / activating the core as we know  good for power.

I hope you're packing an extra set of underwear when you try this!

Of course, a golfer always brings a second pair in case he gets a hole in one.

Prior to my golf round today I happened to read this thread. On my drives I tried sucking in my stomach and lo and behold...my shots were longer. Weird.

This is part of our Setup model called Mid-Body Brace (postural bracing for stability and balance). It is done after a very slight pelvic tuck for most of our students, or what in Pilates is termed a "neutral lumbar spine" , ie not excessively  curved and not flat either.

It activates the Core muscles and enables the golfer to achieve much better lower body stability and balance. Helps with a faster RPM speed of Pivot Thrust as well for more distance.
