Alright guys, got to hit the 905R w/ MCC Matrix combo some more and here are my impressions:
Looks: 905R is definitely large in appearance: quite a bit larger from front to back than any other Titleist model not sure if I like that part of the look or not. Face is relatively deep, more like the E in this manner as opposed to the more shallow look of the K. Guess the best way to describe would be a mix betweeen S and T. Crown looks quite a bit better than the S and T w/o distracting raised alignment aid.
Feel: More like the Cleveland Comp than Cobra Comp, more of a solid thwack than a high-pitched ting, much better sound than T or S.
Distance/dispersion: Now this area is a combo of head and shaft, definitely not the longest combo that I have hit, but one of the most accurate. Not as forgiving as say the G2, but close. The shaft was extremely smooth and stable, felt like the whole shaft loaded and unloaded as a unit rather than feeling as if there is a distinctive kick anywhere on shaft. Really like the neutral bias of the combo, no hooks just slight draws all day. For me, this was the best Titleist combo since my tour issue LFF w/ Apache 65N and this is saying alot as I loved that combo. One thing to note, head actually launches w/ less spin than any Titleist I have hit, so definitely go up a degree in loft unless you swing 110+, but if you have the speed and the appropriate shaft for your launch conditions, would highly rec. putting one in the bag, don't think Titleist fans will be as cool to reception of this one compared to S and T as definite step up in tech.
As tested: 905R 9.5* w/ MCC Matrix (turquoise) in X1 flex MT inserted 1 3/4"
Pics..... We need pics! It is cruel and unusual punishment to tell a bunch of hos about an R with a super rare proto. shaft and not post some pics! Please

Do you have one and do you want to part with it if you do??? I would be first to throw my hat in the ring for an chance to buy one. Thanks. John.
PM me if that is an option.
just read in golf world this thing is 455cc and is starting to get attention on Tour... i like the T, i think it is underrated or misunderstood by a lot of people... you have to really hit it sweet to get a feel for how good a club it is... mishits don't feel good at all, but for how bad it feels, i'm often surprised that i don't sacrifice a lot of yardage.
a 455 cc Titleist would certainly grab my attention...one with moveable weights or internal weighting like the FT-3 would REALLY grab my attention as I find that with Titleist heads I for some reason get the club face VERY shut at the top...but they won't be doing that for awhile I guess....Anyway, a big Titleist would at least get a very good test to make into my otherwise VERY Titleisty bag (is Titleisty a word? As a golf ho, I think it is!)
Nice and thanks...but we need the PICS!!!!!! but i do understand if your source wanted it to be shrouded in mystery like alot of stuff.......Man you are lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted the following in another thread down the page ...
Quote
905R will be out in Feb/March for lefties and righties - 8.5, 9.5, 10.5. With the same shaft options as the current 905's
The 503U will be called the 585H and have a .335 shaft bore. R&D testing and Tour feedback proved that this was the best performing type shaft vs a .370 or .355T shaft. Also Feb/March
Hey if you are going to use my pics, please either ask permission or give credit. That is one of the 2 905R's that Steve Elkington was trying out during the pricatice rounds at the GMO this year. It has/had a NV 105 X in it at the time. I had it in my hands. Steve Matta handed it to me while Elk was giving the other a try, as Steve and I had been discussing the driver.
Considering Elk is using a G2 I'm guessing you discussion was not too positive.
My discussion with Elk was great, the Discussion between Elkington and Steve Matta was priceless. Elk really was letting him have it pretty good. Not nasty or anything, even though the langauge was pretty bar room level. Elk doesn't mince his words much. Basically Matta had sent 6 drivers down to Elk the week before the US Bank/GMO. Elk was testing them ( I'm assuming at Champions) and was telling Matta that he would hit it 320 on one swing, then hit it in the same spot on the face and hit it 280, "that's all F__Ked up!" His biggest issue seemed to be getting a consistent ball flight off it. Keep in mind these are a prototype, albit near production grade, at leat in the one he handed me. He did hit the 905 R further than his G2 on every swing I saw him hit it for comparison sake. Generally 8-12 yards further, with some occasional ones way past it (20+ yards). But Elk seemed to be having somekind of issues with the actual ball flight from it, maybe it's just a fine tuning thing. He also hit the 905 off the deck, "for grins", unreal.
