We were just discussing this on twitter last night. They see a name on my bag, and immediately think I want to give them tips, or want to give me tips. It's incredible. Happened to me on the range again last night. I try to be as polite as possible, but it still gets old.

People would think I am poor if they just looked at my bag, it's kinda small and the stand barely works. When they look into the bag they will think, "Oh, he has (or had) money." Then, when I tell them I bought everything used they think, "I bought my stuff new so he must be really bad."

i always look to see what guys have in the bag because i like golf clubs and if you spot a fellow club ho you have something to talk about. i learned a long time ago not to judge someone based on whats in their bag, ive seen chops with shiny new players clubs as well as beat up players clubs, and ive seen scratch players with shovels and six headcovers, new blades, 25 year old accuform blades, and everything in between. you see different players with all kinds of gear and all it tells you is what they like.

people seem to know what kind of player i am as soon as they see me swing, so i havent experienced any judgement based on my equipment. i guess if you walked by my bag outside the pro shop and saw vokey tvd wedges, 712 mb's ( just a few more weeks!), a 2 iron, r11 tp with a 350 dollar shaft and an old sonartec 3 wood you would either assume that i am a decent player or gods gift to being a poser. either way i play with these clubs because i like them, simple as that.

I notice the driver & putter a guy us using....mostly because I can see what he is hitting in the tee box & on the green.  But rarely notice irons.

BTW...he is hard to miss those white drivers lol

ah.. I play with hogan apex 50s, the old cleveland copper wedges, a humpback 3wood (read big bertha copy), and an odyssey 2ball putter and have forever... I recently updated my irons this week and my driver to an R11 taylor made 2 months ago from a TaylorMade r40,  My sixty degree lob wedge is some old hogan wedge that i call a spoon because that is literally what it looks like it is so big...   Oh yeah..I also have a skycaddie...

I know everyone rags on the white driver.. but I swear I absolutely murder that club and it is accurate.. my favorite

With that being said..not sure what everyone would say, my clubs are always in decent shape and clean.

I have been schooled on a few occasions when I was younger at my club by older guys playing clubs that would make you think they were absolute hackers.. bullseye putters, the original pings etc... (not that those are bad clubs, just older).

One genetleman at my club shot a 62 during a tournament playing against my stepdad in a matchplay tournament at our local course.  He was in his sixties,  had a belly that screamed he liked beer.  Didnt drive the ball over 250, but he hit shot after shot into the green, low, screaming, hit right beside the pin and stopped dead.  He was also making everything within 8 feet.   I think he played with a regular cavity back set of clubs,  a driver that you wouldn't have paid more than $150.00 for and an old ping or blade putter, cant' recall which.

Guess we shouldn't always judge a book by its cover.. I just ordered a set of miuras.. but until my updates I have been playing basically the exact same clubs for the last decade.   Nothing better than playing with someone who has all of the "new" or hot items on the market and putting it to them with the equipment they dont give a second thought about.  Before I even played with the clubs I have now, I used to use a set of pingzing copies.. and different driver copies that none cost more than a 100 bucks.. other than a ping putter.. my bag and all wouldve been less than 500 bucks total...

Now I am one of the other guys lol... atleast for a year or two...

Yeah, but expectations are a-changin' for you when you pull up in your cart sporting those Miura black limited blades in your bag.  Ha ha

I'll give it a try.

You are not a very long hitter but very accurate. You hit 7 fairways on a terrible day and 12 plus on a good day. You use your hybrids often to reach par 4's but you're a good putter. Your main swing thought is Freddy Couples tempo. I'm guessing you are a 9 Index and protect that putter like it's a priceless relic. Am I close at all?

I should note that I forgot to put in my R11 3 wood...

29 years old...
I hit about 240-275, with little to no accuracy.  I play a stiff in driver because im so violent with it.  When im on, its not uncommon for me to be the longest driver in the group.  Ill hit 2-3 FW on a bad round, and maybe10 on a good one.  I average 2 putts, and I actually dont really like the scotty.  Short game is usually spot on, sometimes magical, and somehow manages to keep me at a 14.

Someone would think I use quality older equipment because it works. The truth is I'd rather spend my money on rounds than on equipment I can't afford to play.

I really don't care what is in someone else bag. I am in my late 40's and work very hard for money and time to play.  The cost of what is in my bag is insignificant to how much I spend on golf so why not have what you want.  I also have the scratch so what the hell.

If someone looked in my bag they would probably say, what is this stuff?

Henry Griffits Praxis Driver mid low launch, fitted HG shaft pured.
Adams XTD 14.5, 3 wood regular shaft
Adams XTD 17, 19 degree Hybrids regular shafts
Henry Griffits OS1 irons 4-PW, fitted shafts, pured.
Henry Griffits Wedges 51, 56 degree fitted and pured.
Ping Crazee Putter.

I started playing regularly again 3 years ago and reworked my swing from the ground up.  I came from X-18's that I played for quite a while until I got my swing somewhat consistent.  When I got fit I discovered that I was 4 up.  Most clubs don't even come 4 up.  I picked up the Griffits Irons in the middle of last year and they helped quite a bit.  I wish when you looked at my irons you saw a dime size wear spot but that is not the case.  I am playing off a 14 right now and will probably get down to a 12 this summer.  Feeling pretty good about the sticks.  I would like to try the Adams XDT 15 degree hybrid as a possible swap for my 3 wood but I can't seem to find one with a regular shaft to demo.

Ok, I will play...

Your favorite club to hit is your driver, you don't have a 3 wood yet because you still haven't found one more accurate than the driver.  You play to scratch or better and are playing collegiate golf or did in the past.  Your second favorite club is your putter and are a consistantly good putter.  You have a good mix of length and touch.

You are 6'2" 190lbs

How does that sound?

To quote the great Moe Norman - "Just take this dumb guy [club] and hit that dumb guy [ball] into that dumb guy [fairway]"

Or are you guys going to judge him too because he did not play the latest greatest?

When are you guys going to learn it is the physical ability of the golfer that plays the game poorly or successfully!?

Equipment has so very little impact on how well someone plays when this gime is 90% mental 10% physical and I am sure many of you have heard this before.

IT IS THE INDIAN AND NOT THE ARROW!!!

I do not have an issue saying this is a very snobbish and shallow thread.  :beee:
