Steady rain, no.  Intermittent showers, ok.  Once the gloves are soaked though and the towels don't help any longer, there is no way to keep the grip stable.

The biggest issue for me is slippage. No matter what i do my gloves/ grips get wet and i struggle to go after the ball. Can anyone recommend some good rain gloves? I assume these are the ones you wear on both hands?

FootJoy rain grip gloves are great.
Yes you wear then on both hands. They work the best when they are soaked , then every once in a while you just ring them out .

I will not tee it up if it is raining hard.  A light mist with a good forcast later in the day.  Sure.

I'ts just not fun for me.  I even have a very good Footjoy Rainsuit but that is used mostly on a vacation when you have to play or a tourney where again you have to play.  I also use rain gloves.

I tend not to mind unless I am just soggy. That said, there is a difference between playing in tropical rain in the south and rain in New England. You can get rain and 50 degree temps even in July where you get a chill, and for me that is when it ends.

Alright. I take back my earlier post. F*** the rain. Seriously. Played an end of year event today. Just a scramble; just for fun. Dressed warmly, as it is northern Maine, and halfway through, the skies open up and dump water on me like a garden hose to the face.

I had khakis on, and three layers up top and they were all soaked completely through. They didn't call the round, so everyone kept playing on. We got to the last par 3, and I hit it to seven feet. Not one of us got our putts to within two feet!! There was too much water on the green to roll the ball. I hate water, I hate rain...I'm out.

I played last Sunday through a light rain for the first time in a very long time. Ended up shooting my best round ever.

I'll play through rain and cold without complaint.....until the wind blows to the point that I can't stand to take a swing - then I'm in the clubhouse with everyone else to let it calm down some.

If I was being FORCED to play and it was raining, then sure, I'd be alright with it and I'd get through it. But if I just woke up one morning and wanted to go out golfing and it was raining, no way would I go. Wait until another day when it's nice.

My feeling on playing in the rain is the same as my feeling on writing.  *Here me out...*

I love to have "already written" a paper just as I like "having already played" in the rain.  Drying off, warm in the clubhouse, nice scorecard in hand - awesome.  Having played crappy in the rain - "get me outta here..."

I love bad weather, except I can't use my stinger so I miss a few more fairways or greens but it's real soft so I can make up for it with my flop shot and get lots of nice up&downs.

I don't mind the rain now, as long as its warm enough and there isn't standing water on the greens.  Since playing tournament golf more this year, and being forced into continuing when the rain starts, its not that bad, as long as you have a good rain suit.

I'll play in a light rain during the summer, anything below 60 degrees, no.  I will play in the 30 degree weather if there is no wind.  Any combination of cold / wind / rain and I'm sleeping in.

it isn't really a problem if you have the right gear.  My Zero Restriction rain suit keeps me dry.  Rain gloves keep the club gripped and my Adidas 360's provide the traction.  If my bag was a Sun Mountain H2NO I would be totally waterproof!

I don't mind the rain as long as it's not pouring. Played on Sunday and it was in the 50's with about 15-20 mph wind, then it's started raining when I was on 17 green. I quickly played 18 and ran to the car. If it wasn't so close to the end of the season I probably wouldn't have played, but I got to get the rounds in when I can now.

Seeing as they don't cancel competitions for any rain unless there is tons and tons of casual water or of course if there's lightning, no need to shy away from it IMO.

The right gear does make it tolerable. If you can rotate gloves that's best. Obviously FJ rain gloves for the heavy stuff. I have played in rain, cold and wind on vacation, Florida in early February can be tricky. Early spring and late fall are hit or miss in Indiana. Have to play if its not snowing. It depends on the course you're playing.  I've played Bandon in a gale with sideways rain, I also grew up in Seattle playing soggy fairways for 9 months and plugging every ProV1 in your bag.

Golfing in the rain is like pasta......it shouldn't be soggy.

I don't mind light rain b/c it means the course will be empty.  Heavier stuff I don't play due to the mud balls, slick grips, and the next day cold is unpleasant.

In the PNW if you're not willing to play in the rain your season is only about 2 months long.

my thoughts exactly. Some of the best times to play here is during the fall and it tends to drizzle quite a bit.

+ 1

In Portland if you don't play in rain the season is super short.  I am from here and I am weird I like rain.  The only thing stopping me is if the course it saturated and unplayable.

^ This
Litte rain, cold and wind never hurts. It often focuses me more tbh. As longs as it's not saturated and unplayable

Alot of rain days in Vancouver, BC

i will play as long as its not an all out tropical downpour or cold and blowing a howling gale at the same time.

In the past always used to carry two wet weather/ rain gloves. Really was like cheating when everyone else was struggling to hang onto their grip.

Early morning threat of rain is the best. Especially when everyone is scared to go out, and then it ends up nice and overcast with no rain. Some of the courses I play have the added bonus of implementing a "walking only" policy for the first few hours when they think it might rain. Then I get to play a nice quiet and fast round on a pristine course.

rain never bothered me just makes me concentrate more

If I have a tee time, and it ends up crappy that day - I'll go to the course with positive thoughts and not really bothered.

But I do have to say, usually during the round I just don't enjoy it as much.  It seems like a lot of work, carrying a towel around the greens, keeping the grips dry, preventing my umbrella from getting blown away in the wind etc..  On top of that, I find I just don't score as well.  My ball striking suffers just enough to prevent me from "enjoying" the round.

Wind is even worse though.  Rain I can at least play in, wind though, my whole swing / game goes to sh*t for some reason.  Must be a mental thing.

Wind does me in too.  I don't mind rain or cold, but high winds just shut me down.  I know it is mental but it still does it.

Rain, wind and cold.  Pick two and I'll still play.  Once the third hits, I'm ready to pack it in.

+1. I also have goretex on head to toe by the time it starts to come down in the colder months.

Rain is a part of life here in the Northwest and I play year round. As long has I have a unbrella, plastic cover on my golf bag, rain gloves and good rain gear I'm ready. Now if it is a deluge or below 50* I'm watch'n TV.

NW here too. I do need to invest in an umbrella, but as long as I have my rain gear on I don't mind at all. I look forward to the winter months as golf is so much cheaper!

After golfing in Scotland - no weather pattern in North America can deter me from playing (if I want to)
All you need is goretex top/bottom shells, rain gloves and that's it! Have a change of clothing after and the little you get wet won't even bother you

A long time ago, I would never play in the rain.  If it started raining, I packed it in and went home.  Started playing in a tournament every year in Myrtle Beach about 25 years ago and have had to learn to stick it out when it is raining.  Found out that good rain gear is essential.  There is a lot of rain gear out there that will suffice if you are just dodging the rain or only having to play in a light rain.  When the rain gets heavy, you better have rain gear that is really waterproof, not water resistant.

Playing in the UK rain features large in my game.  However if its raining and blowing at 30mph or more I won't go out.
