Soft as hell, sexy looks, great player lines and forgiving grinds make for a perfect first look for these Bridgestone J40 irons. Not many around but if you can find one to demo take the time. They are worth it. I wrote in another thread... Played a round with the forged cb's  today and they have the feel I was hoping for. Looks are sick. Very  classy and understated badging adds to the purity and stealth look in  the bag. Sole design is very forgiving. Big camber front to back and  very little heel to toe.

I liked them a lot. I could see them in the bag no problem and now  thinking the wedges might look good in the bag to. Honeymoon though. I  will put some road time and get back.

Press release from Bridgestone:

Quote

J40 Forged Cavity Back

The J40 Forged Cavity Back irons offer the ultimate balance between form and function.  The J40 Forged CB's striking good looks and clean traditional design is tailor made for better players who prefer a classy no-frills look and thin topline at address.  The J40 Forged Cavity Back irons key design features include:

· compact head with higher face progression for a mid-height launch
·   unique v-cut cavity design that places more mass higher on the clubface for a higher center of gravity, resulting in a more controllable, penetrating ball-flight
·   tapered sole-design for more versatility in shot making, allowing players to ‘work the ball’ and more easily control trajectory
·   enhanced trailing edge relief for better performance from a variety of lies, especially out of the rough

“With the J40s, we now offer even better performance and cleaner aesthetics.  The J40 series truly reaffirms that Bridgestone is THE brand of choice for premium iron enthusiasts,” said Consuegra.

Both sets of the J40 irons are premium forged from 1020 mild carbon steel for the ultimate in soft feel and feature conforming grooves for optimum distance and spin control. The new J40 irons come standard with the Tour-proven Project XTM flighted shafts. Both come standard in a set of 5-pw and feature a street price of $699 (MSRP $799). An additional 3-iron and 4-iron will be available upon request ($115 per club).

Those look awesome. Both the Bridgestone and Mizuno's.

When are these available to the public?

very similar in design.  I'm a big mizuno guy and I think the Bstone's are dead sexy and make the 59's seem like the fat friend that comes to the club with the hottie.

I much prefer the j40 dual pockets.  These are too boxy for my taste, with that weird square sole design Tourstage is fond of.  I've been a Bridgestone iron player for many years, but these are just not my cup of tea.  Can't wait to hit the j40 dual pocket cavities though.  Already have a black oxide j40 lob wedge on the way.

Great pics there. Will be getting these soon. Gave the j36 cb's/kbs and just wasnt a fan. Feel & playability was lacking.
Think these new j40's will be the ticket.

These clubs are awesome... had a Bridgestone guy meet up with me today and hit the entire line (into a net).

The driver was probably my least favorite, and it was still good. I think it was more the setting than the driver... it still felt good, but I don't think it was much different than anything else on the market.

I've never felt softer irons. I will get fitted for them soon.

These irons look beautiful, now Easyyy, I know you are an MB guy, but if these have the feel and playability with your stamp of approval, I might have to look into these (after I'm done enjoying my Mac Pro M's).  They are a really good looking, understated cavity back, maybe the best I've seen from a graphics stand point in a while, hoorah for less is more!!!

Also, Bridgestone has updated their website to just the J40 stuff, so I'm guessing that means it is all available.  I took a look through their custom shafts (irons and woods), and they have quite a few options with no upcharge, I thought that was pretty cool.

Good job Bridgestone, best of luck getting a little more market share.

I have a problem with them not making these and the wedges left handed.

Never buying another bridgestone ball.

everytime i see them i want them more,,   like the first time i saw the j33s  just wish they had more demos in my area...  i might have to drive into the chicago to try them.......    5 and 6 iron pocket  and 7 - p   in the cavity  would be a dream....    and maybe a black limited combo set would be sweet with no paint fill but the numbers and a shadow brigdestone logo , like on Kucher's set..

How was the performance compared to MP 59? I bought Tourstage Z101 from fellow Golfwrxer and fell in love with the iron. It was bought for a present and I wanted to keep it. But my wife...Posted Image
If the feel and performance are similar to Z101, then this will be my next iron set. :partytime2:

It's the same company :-)

On the shaft front, the Bridgestone rep said the Project X shafts in the woods are not "made for" but the real deal.... they certainly felt nice.

I've become obsessed with Bridgestone for some reason... oh well.

Gentlemen,

I understand they are made by the same company.

I'm simply saying that the J40 is an iteration of a club that's already been in the market.

I like that to. Tourstage forgings have made it to cult status over the years. Quality soft forgings. Now we get that in the Bridgestone line. Love the understated looks.

Hey Richard, hasn't Bridgestone always used ENDO of Japan for their forgings? Or is there something New that they are doing with the mix in steel and carbon to make their forgings bette? I always thought Bridgestone has had quality forgings using 1020 or 1025 steel that just never got the press like the Mizuno's have received over the years! Not saying Mizuno's are bad by any means just curious as to what new changes have occurred with Bridgestone? Going back to the days of the J33 combo's, which where one of the best sets ever made IMHO. I played the J33b's and J33cb's and looking at these J40's it looks like they've taken some of their best designs and only made them better by making the cb more blade like if thats possible while still offering forgiveness. Love the minimal offset and the soft satin finish. Might just have to try out a set......

Thanks for the pictures, Richard. These look awesome. In the comparison pictures, it looks like they are slightly longer from heel to toe than the MP59s, is that really the case or my eyes playing tricks on me? Doesn't matter to me either way, just trying to get some perspective is all. Thanks.

Serious amount of weight behind the sweetspot on the J40 - nice, compact, quality looking iron

Bet the 59's are far more forgiving, though still not sold on their looks
