The OP reminds me of my third loop as a caddy when I was 12 years old at the local CC. I was caddying for a guest of a member and he was a 85-90 type player, real heavy set guy who could hit the ball a mile but I honestly think his weight/size got in the way on his short game. Anyways he was dressed as a standard golfer, no big watch or jewelry, very friendly and giving me tips since I was a pure rookie, I could keep up with the guys and give yardage but besides that I was pretty but a cart on feet. Anyways his equipment was nothing exciting, back then (11 years ago) he had taylormades with graphite shafts which were pretty rare in irons back then compared to the members I was used to carrying for/seeing their bags. Anyways at the end of the round the typical nice guy blue collar working man look gives me a $100, being 12 I instantly handed it back telling him I couldn't give him change for that, he hands it back with another 40 and told me it was all tip, my rate as a rookie was $12, giving me a $128 something like 1060% tip, not too shabby for a 7th grader, I carried his clubs all the way to his car after cleaning every groove and every ball in his bag (literally) and what is it? A brand new rollys royce, what model I couldn't tell you because I was so young but you don't miss the double R's at any age

Thanks for the memories OP

Cars and golf is like whine and cheese. I take alot of pride in my golf bag : 910 D3 AD DI 6S Callaway X-Tour irons 9 thru PW Cleveland Wedges 52 and 56 and the new edition Scotty Cameron California Del Mar 2012. Shes a sexy little thang. As far as my car goes I drive a 2010 Honda Civic EX. Shes black has a whopping 160 horses under her. Plus shes about 30 bones to feed her and gets over 300 miles on a tank. Life is good man.

Back in the '80s I played racquetball a few times with Ted Field, and this guy would show up on occasion  wearing some pretty grubby clothes and sneakers that looked like they came from a thrift store.
Sometimes he looked like he hardly had a pot to pizz in!

But when he left the parking lot his rides ranged anywhere from a Rolls to a twin turbo Carerra!
The guy was a super wealthy car nut, started Interscope Racing and then co-founded Interscope Records.
Today he's worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

I love the SRT-8!! I've always liked them.  I've driven a 2005 Grand Cherokee with a HEMI and it had a amazing "punch," I used to drool about driving the 100hp more SRT-8.  Awesome car.

not hating just laughing

a membership at a nice country club costs a lot of money too, sometimes more than a nice car. I'm sure some people would laugh at members of Cypress point for playing there when they could find a perfectly acceptable course for 10% of the price. I just don't get it, i mean feel free to laugh at what you want, but without hobbies what's the point of living

not to be a DB but I've played Cypress Point, and there are "perfectly acceptable" courses and then there's Cypress Point...its actually not very expensive to join..but getting in is another story.  I could name 25 courses in NY that are more expensive than Cypress, and none of them are #2 or #3 in the world.

..and you should see the very ordinary cars in the parking lot the 2 days I was there...thanks for helping me make my point

I actually live in one of the top 10 cities in the country in terms of average income...  you don't see very many inexpensive cars going down the street, unless it's the gardener... Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, Maserati the low end cars are Escalades and Range Rovers...  It is BS that rich people drive cheap cars... sure some do, but around here, not many. Last time I was at Cypress there were mostly Mercedes in the lot and they weren't C classes either... You must have been there on Caddies day...

Yeah, I love my SRT...except when it snows...and when I hafta go to the gas station! LOL! It really is a beast. I try not to be "that guy" when I'm out driving, but it's really hard not to. I've driven a 2012, they're nice, but not as "raw" as the '06-'11 version. Really disappointed they dropped the center exit exhaust, it's one of the reasons I bought it! Who tows anything with an SRT anyway?!

Thanks, Bob! I'm really happy with my current setup and I'm not planning on changing anything, except for the 3w(910 Fd)...it's gotta go! I'm over it. Currently searching for replacements.

In my experience the really, really wealthy people drove quite ordinary cars.  They don't have to "status-climb."   They're already at the top and know they have more money than pretty much everyone else they know.  They could care less.  It makes me laugh reading some of these posts...who cares what you drive?  Its a depreciating asset as is.

The OP and those who responded care, that's why he made the thread and they responded.

Thanks Capt. Obvious.  I was making a point, a car gets you from point a to point b...the super wealthy people get this, the majority of us don't.  Again its a depreciating asset, but our society spends 51 when they only have 50...thus the foreclosure crisis, among other things..

An '05 Chevy Tahoe Z71...never drive a car nicer than the members..

I have been to old money private clubs and new money private clubs.  There are more "look at me" cars at the new money clubs.  I have seen guys liek Bud Shaw roll up in a 15 year old Cadillac.

I think my Beater P/U matched my bag.  Paid in full and hang onto it for 7 to 10 years.
