I knew he played a mixed bag of clubs but after seeing his WITB I Sports Illustrated I'm totally confused.  If you didn't
See it here it is:

Superquad TP  9.5 Rombax TP 95
V-Steel  13* Harrison Striper 801
Rescue TP (from 08?) Hybrid Striper  801

Here is where it get's confusing

3 iron: Cobra K Forged Blade
4 iron: RAC MB prototype (original RAC)
5 iron: Tour Preffered ( 09 version)
6 iron: Tour Preffered MB ( 2011 version)
7 iron: Tour burner
8 iron: Tour Preffered ( 09 Version )
9 iron: Tour Preferred MC
pW: Tour Preferred MC

WTF?  I'm all about playing the old equipment that you're familiar with that's fine but that mix of irons makes no sense.  Blades
In the long irons and cavity backs in the short irons?  His long irons have the smallest sweet spots?  And a completely
random mix of year's, models, etc??  Plus gobs of lead tape everywhere!

Weird!

Without big contracts to play equipment you would see more of this. Guys without contracts, or split contracts quite often have a varied bag of tricks. I'd take his bag and talent any day. I'm sure with Lehman, the mix gives him the trajectories he is looking for.

If you can't find something important to rail on, I guess a PGA tour professionals choice of clubs to win tournaments with is a good place to start...seriously...  :WTF:

Perhaps there's nothing 'WTF' about it, but it certainly is interesting to see a pro having a club makeup like that.

He probably has full set of them, tried them all on the range, and picked and choosed whichever gave him the most optimal performance.

Love it. Nice to see someone playing their favorites- even if they're each from every other set... :tease:

Have you guys had a "favorite" iron that used to just flat out worked best in your sets? I certainly have, mine was the five- which was the iron I dialed in the rest of the set off of. Now they swing pretty much the same therefore all are "favorites"   :partytime2:

I do find this interesting mate. Thought it was a perfectly legitimate post on here.

6 different irons to make up a set of 8 seems very bizarre to me. I assume he's comfortable with each individual iron and only changes the ones he sees fit. Haven't seen anything quite like that though. Must be a relatively new thing. I've seen several of Lehman's bags on here over the last few years and they've never looked like that.

The blades in the long irons has never made sense to me either but he's not the only one. Langer has Hogan Apex 3 & 4 irons and Adams CB's 5-P. A combo set as we know it is normally the other way round. Maybe they know something we don't?

I do agree in that a blade iron seems to have a certain balance that a cavity back simply doesn't. Maybe that's it?

Not sure why people are ragging on him for posting this. It is weird. There are quite a few pros that refuse to be nailed down into contracts and play what they want but they don't play mixed bags like that. Very strange. I find confidence in looking at a together bag that gets it done; it would be strange to me to look in and see a jumble of clubs that looks like I picked up a bargain at a thrift store.

I posted it because I just thought it was really weird and more interesting than
anything else, especially for a tour pro that can have anything built/adjusted for
them.  I wasn't ragging on him at all just pointing out something that was completely
out of the ordinary and totally confusing at the same time.

Uhmmmm.  Maybe that's just what works for him?  You are questioning a former #1 player in THE WORLD, Ryder Cup Captain, British Open Champion, a successful career, someone who's put in his dues coming up through the mini tours etc etc about the choice of his equipment?

Relax...he is not ranting, instead, he made a great observation...it is beyond a strange bag!  I really like Lehman, but he is now yesterday and when he was winning all those blue ribbons he did not do it with this bag.

I seem to remember a story about a famous golfer who had a set of completely different clubs that he had picked up in various places, selected based on feel. There was one club that he said he was never quite comfortable with and in later years they found that all the clubs except that one had the same swing weight. Cannot remember who it was - maybe Hagen.

I have to admit the first time I saw Lehman's irons I did a double take.  A couple of his mid irons looked like a experiment gone bad involving lead tape.  He even had a cavity back short iron where the cavity was filled with epoxy putty.

There may be a lesson here for people that have 3 or 4 back-up sets of clubs.
Mix and match what works best.

Whatever works.  I have a mostly matched set, and also have a day job.  He has a mismatched set, and is a professional golfer of upper pedigree.

Maybe I should experiment more....
