This is getting hilarious. I went to the Bridgestone last week, and literally saw about 1000 people dressed in all orange. All complete with the monoline hats. It wasn't just kids either. Anywhere from 5 year olds to 50 year olds. I was laughing out loud the whole tournament. My friend even went up to one of the imposters (orange belt / pants and all) and was like "Hey Rickie! Rickie Fowler! And the guy looked at him and was so insulted. Best laugh I've had in a long time. I've considered buying a monoline hat, but now I can't bring myself to do it. Don't wanna be "that guy". I just found a Titleist 59/50 on eBay in my size though. Anyways, wondering if this is a trend at every tournament, or just because he was in contention.

some guys are doing it and can pull it off.  others, not so much.

I remember one tournament where about 10 guys all had RF orange on and wore the same outfit.  If nothing else, they got some TV time.

I think the age limit on wearing some the the Puma/RF line should be 21. lol

I have a pic of a guy I caught at a tournament recently.  I actually felt really bad for him since the other kids playing kept saying, 'There's Ricky'.... and snickering as he walked by.  I'll post tonight from home for your entertainment.

It's been that way in most tournaments for the past several months and the trend seems to continue to grow as long as he stays in contention.

Regardless if you are a Fowler fan or not, his increasing popularity with the casual golf fan is great for the game of golf and the PGA Tour.

Didn't mean for it to sound like I was saying that it's a bad thing. I know it's good for golf and he's bringing in a lot of fans. But it's impossible not to laugh at a 50 year old man wearing all orange with a flat-billed hat.

I saw a guy on the course the other day wearing orange head to tow with an orange monoline hat, funny stuff. We came up with the name "Rick Rollin" for these type of guys.

It looks like Ryo one-upped him with the red sunglasses. Next week Rickie will have orange Ray-bans. In two weeks, so will half of the spectators.

some people can pull the look off most people can't but I just don't get the dressing like the golfer while watching the tournament it is like taking the jersey wearing to NFL games one step further and putting on some spandex pants and shoulder pads and a helmet to look like Peyton Manning while at the Colts game

This is my issue with most of the Puma stuff in general. I have nothing against the way it looks--I actually really like Puma, and have a pair of their golf shoes--but to me it's hard to see anyone in it without thinking they look like they're wearing a Rickie Fowler Halloween costume. For me personally, it's just too distinctively "Rickiewear" to even think about donning any of it.

I do like Rickie Fowler, though. Seems like a good kid.

LMFAO!

Its funny I posted to dress in all orange as a joke at a tour event. I hope these guys are just joking as well. Kind of like the green spandex man.

"Imitation is the greatest form of flattery"

Let me see....

Rickie is a genuinely good humble and honorable person ----CHECK
Rickie is a unbelievably talented player------------------------------CHECK
Rickie has style ------------------------------------------------------------CHECK
Rickie is young and charismatic --------------------------------------CHECK

Why would young people and fans NOT want to support and be like Rickie?

Maybe because---------------You don't have his game
------------------------------------You don't have his looks
and most of all----------------You obviously don't have any of the character or life skills that Rickie lives each day.
Go ahead, poke fun, make your S.A. comments like a junior high bully would do to everyone that is a fan and displays it proudly.
My son has jackwads like you at EVERY tournament.  It would be MUCH easier for him to be a sheep and not wear his Puma gear to not hear the constant comments and jabs.  He takes it all, maybe giving them a look when it goes over the top, but uses it as motivation.
At the Junior PGA,  at the practice round the (at the time) #4 ranked player in the world was in the car with his mom when Stratton was walking in the front of the club.  He rolled his window down and yelled out loud "HEY RICKIE,CAN I GET YOUR AUTOGRAPH!"
Stratton shot 71,78,75,68 - tied for 10th.  The #4 player who yelled that, shot 82,77,85-MC.  They crossed paths after he missed the cut and it would have been real easy for Stratton to have a retort or S.A. comment in return.  He did nothing but walk by and smile.  Stratton will never forget him and hopes to some day meet him in match play because in Stratton's words. "I'll let my clubs talk, not my mouth"

Here is my son, Rickie Bieber, or what ever you want to call him, make fun as you may, but you may want to look in the mirror sometimes at yourself and think about how you would feel if someone picked out something physical on you and makes fun of you in a crowd

Well said...

My 8yr old would rather be kicking a soccer ball than playing golf, but he knows who Rickie is and LOVES his style.

...and with that said, Rickie posed for pic for him at the WGC in Akron and was SUPER COOL about it. When was the last time Woods was that approachable?

Well, first of all, your son has the game to wear whatever he wants on the golf course. Everybody on GolfWRX knows that. Second of all, this thread is about spectators. You're obviously taking this way too seriously. I just thought it was hilarious to see grown men dressed in, what a member earlier perfectly put it, "A Rickie Fowler Halloween costume". If you have the balls to wear an orange jump suit, you better at least have a sense of humor to back it up. Or a 68 in the final round of a tournament. No need to take offense because your son is a Fowler fan. I like Rickie. He definitely has awesome game. And he brings new fans to the sport. But I'm going to laugh out loud every single time I see a crowd full of look-a-likes, or "Rick Rollers" lol. That fashion style is meant to get attention. And that's exactly what it does. Whether it's positive or negative.

I dont think the OP was attacking or even insulting Rickie.  We all know he is a good guy and a great athlete, that isnt the topic.  I think deerslayer took it a little far with the whole "look in the mirror" rant.  I agree that imitation CAN BE the greatest form of flattery but there is something to be said for originality and being your own person as well.  Its not like they are making fun of someones disability or anything like that, its the humor in the outpouring of people who all of a sudden dress like wannabe cellmates lol

BTW, that Rickie Bieber comment had me rolling LOL

Great post mate and I wish all the best to your son!

I genuinely appreciate anyone trying to be different so my apologies for this comment but isn't dressing like your favourite golfer the epitome of being a sheep? Not trying to be a tool but it was in response to your comment above.

As I say, I wish him all the best in the future  :drinks:

I think it's fun to see people Rick Rollin at a tournament. Just being enthusiastic fans.

On the golf course though, I think it's kind of obnoxious. Very few people have the game to pull it off. Actually, not even Rickie has enough game to pull off the look.

I spotted a Rickie Rowler on my way home today.  He was on the practice green lighting up the course in an all-orange outfit.  Had to do a double take on that one.  At least it gave me a few chuckles.

I don't think Deerslayer took anything too far.  What if some of the posted photos were of your kids?  Posting pictures of kids and making fun of them on a worldwide forum, not too classy.  Let them have their fun.

I spotted a Rickie Rowler on my way home today.  He was on the practice green lighting up the course in an all-orange outfit.  Had to do a double take on that one.  At least it gave me a few chuckles.

How dare you laugh at the poor boy? Shame on you. How would you like it if the whole school was making fun of you for being different? Are you racist against orange jumpsuits? It sounds to me like you are just jealous of Rickie's dashing good looks. Or maybe his character. Were you aware that he is a saint? I saw him personally walk 4 old ladies across a busy highway last week.  You bullies make me sick  :cheesy:

A pic from almost 5yrs ago.  Pre-Fowler, and his ball maker on the brim of his cap........OSU

Once Fowler went to OSU, and especially after he signed with Puma, naturally, Stratton became a big fan.  He has always worn bright Puma gear, but he likes Rickie's style in the caps, hair etc.

Sheep are in FLOCKS, thus the populous inference of being a sheep .  (following the herd)

The "RANT" is from hearing this waaaaaay too often.  Posting pics of two young kids and making fun of them?

My friend even went up to one of the imposter's (orange belt / pants and all) and was like "Hey Rickie! Rickie Fowler!
I hear this and see this all the time and don't care to hear anyone brag about making fun of anyone in a public crowd, because they are a fan of someone.
