I've been playing the same irons for over 10 years (Titleist 990s), but now that I'm starting to play more again finally (down to about a 7 handicap), I want to purchase new irons.  After looking at and hitting many different brands and models, I have eliminated all but four models, the JPX 800 Pros & MP 53s from Mizuno & the Tour Preferred CBs & MCs from TaylorMade.

My question is about the timing of my purchase, not which ones I should go with (although I'll listen to that advice as well).  I'm just wondering when TaylorMade & Mizuno are likely to upgrade or launch new similar irons to these models that would make these models obsolete or outdated. I'd hate to order a set today and have new irons announced right after my order.  I know that even if that happened, the irons I'd be getting would still be light years ahead of my old clubs, but even if it's not about having the latest and greatest, it could impact the price I pay for last years models.

Thanks for help.

TM TP CB's are getting dumped in favor of the new r11 irons due Sept 1st (i think that release date is correct).  They'll also be 100 cheaper at a $799 retail.  MC's are staying in the line.  Not sure what Mizuno is doing due a loser rep who never comes by to show us the new stuff.

What's wrong with playing an older model?  I've tried all the 2011 TM Tour preferred offerings and still chose to go with the older RAC mbs(brand new).

They won't be dated and nowhere near obsolete! That is marketing- plain and simple.

Thanks for the responses.  I'm not worried at all about playing "old" clubs since my 990s are from 1999, but if something new is coming, I won't complain about getting the 2010-11s discounted during closeout.  I see that GG already has the TaylorMade CBs discounted.

The new Mizunos are coming out in September IIRC. Check the pre-release forum:

I think TM will release the R11 and the R11 TP irons soon.  I would be shocked if they didn't.

Thank you for pointing this out to me.  Since I joined, I have been so focused on reading everything I can in the equipment forum, that I didn't even notice the pre-release forum.
