I wanted to love the 8802 style head, bought an old Arnold Palmer and then a Snake Eyes version to experiment with.  While the looks may be the best of all putter heads, I just can't make a putt with one.  Never even made it on to the course with one, but I have no doubt that it would add 8-9 putts to my round if I tried, based on the practice green sessions.

I primarily use a BC7, but i also rotate about 4 different Tad Moore 8802 putters and a couple of Wilson 8802's.  Also have a Palombi 421 on the way and I think I have a SSB Lola2 coming my way.  I will never use anything else (maybe a #9 someday).

Currently I'm using a lefty 8802 knockoff that I purchased from Golfworks for about $15 in the mid '90s. On the bottom the indented button says, "Custom Built, Custom Fit" and the model number is G1006.

It didn't look or feel any different than a Crenshaw 8802 that I already had, so eventually I sold the Crenshaw model for about $85 on eBay, more than I originally paid for it.

I like the Golfworks 8802 other than the lack of a scoring line. On short putts I was aligning the ball improperly and missing left until a friend pointed it out.

I've discovered that the 8802 works best for me with the ball even with my front foot and not toward the center of my stance.

I actually love the feel of the #8.  It gives a lot of feedback.  Its not very forgiving, but, when you are stroking it will there isn't much out there that can beat it.  On faster greens I love the #8 over the cameron.

Gaming a Betti SS6 as well and love it.  Just sent it back to be refinished.  One of the only putter heads that suits my eye.  Love the simplicity of it.

I think the finish on them is one of the best I have seen. I should have this one back next week from Tom Slighter.

I've got a Wilson Staff 8802 in my bag. Anyone managed to find a headcover to fit these 8802 style putters? I've had tons of trouble finding one that fits snugly and doesn't fall off.

Best one I have ever found:

They are neoprene so they only last about a year or so before they wear out. I buy 4 at a time and just keep them on hand.

The BC7 is way underestimated IMHO. It is exactly the same head size as my BB2 DASS, SS#6. The SS#6 has one of the nicest finishes I have seen on a putter but the BC7 has a nice matte finish. The FIT face and choice of head weights make this as good as any carbon 8802 style I have seen. They are a steal at what they are selling for at this time.

I have the ss6 and bc7, although almost identical the ss6 feels far superior and the every once in a while the bc7 will have a putter that comes up way way short. I think this has to do with the location of the fit face on the 2 models respectively. I redid the paintfill on the bc7 because the stock is awful.
Cheers,
Evan

BTW, I have a custom mini mallet from Lamont, otherwise its 8802 all the way!!! Currently have a milled bimini in the living room (closest to golf course I will be for a while), finished the year with ss6 in the bag (rotated a td42, odyssey TD #8, TM nubbins b11, Barn Find, Ping Tess JAS, and the mini mallet). I agree that 8802's can be tougher on short putts, I strongly feel that their is no better model to lag with.

I still use the 8813 I got in 72. It's one of the first 2 year models. Passes the nickle test, fully joined cursive WILSON, stepped & fluted shaft.

Just got a back up last week. Pretty sure it is a 68 model. Everything identical as my first one, but this one has the length on the club head.

I am blessed to be able to put with most any TRADIONAL putter, and I sometimes use an Oddesey Anser type to work on alignment.
I was in Dicks the other day and they had a White Hot #9 offset blade. Made 17 or 20 on their 10 ft practice green. No I did not buy it. Dead straight no grain carpet puts don't count, It did roll the ball nicely.

For the life of me I don't know why they don't put Phils prototype in production. I would love to see how the insert feels on current production balls.

I've played 8802 style putters off and over the last 20 years, most recently the Black #8. I tend to go back to it when I start to feel too mechanical or when I'm unhappy with my lag putting.

If my Nome experiment doesn't work out, the #8 will go straight back into the bag.

My experiment didn't last long. Recently been trying other head shapes out against my 8812 and it was night and day, consistency is the name of the game and the 8802 head shape gives me this. The only experiment I will be doing now is the same head shape but different manufacturers and materials.
