Ever lose your drive for the game?

My solution is just coming home. Ever since my dad moved out our one bonding time is golf so we go a lot and he pays for me. I guess I'll make up for that when I'm working full time and he's an old man and I pay.

When ever that would happen I would put the sticks away for a few weeks and do some other things that I enjoyed such as: going fishing, going to the beach, or head home after work and play some video games or whatever it was that was not golf. I figured that half hearted practice is worthless and usually yields no benefit.
It usually worked and I had the itch to play and/or practice again within a few weeks time.
It is a hard balance between working at a golf course and playing. If you can find the happy medium I think you will get that motivation back. It might take longer, but if you love the game and love to play...it will resurface at some point. Just get away for a bit.

Never work in golf if you want to play golf. You don't want to play because you feel like your going back to work rather than playing. If you have another course that's convenient try going there. Or just give up playing a lot for the summer, work, and then when you leave and aren't around a golf course 24/7 it will probably come back.
Also, the heat really doesn't help. I live in Atlanta and it disgusting outside between heat, humidity and smog. I don't know what time of day you play, but trying going out at like 5 or 6 pm to play. The course will be less crowded and it should be cooler out which will help you relax. Finally try just playing 9 holes rather than 18. Sometimes 18 can feel like it drags on if you are not in the mood for golf, but 9 is never to much.

I also lose my drive to play/practice if I dont have any goals or a consistant game. I do not belong to a course and dont have a regular game, I go in spurts where I will play a good bit with some players on the same skill level as me and them sprinkle in a qualifier or two in there....but then it fades.
I agree with JcO, its tough to load up and get out there when it's 95 outside.

Everyone encounters moments like that; least I have. I always work my way through them however, because I know I will be better for doing so. The obvious difference, those of us that make commitments and see a positive future, and those that tend to start this or that, and then quit; they can't see forward, opting to wallow in...
It's not all that different from building a serious long-term career and marriage. There's good and bad times to growth, and every long term commitment.

Seriously, even though I live in NC and could technically play year round, I do get burnt out. This usually means packing up the clubs from October through February. In October I'm burnt out, and I don't feel like playing golf. So why bother. By February the weather is warming up a bit, and then I see Pebble Beach on TV and the fire's burning again.

Sorry for the thread jack, but where are you in Walnut Creek? I live there, too! Do you play Boundary Oaks often? The course has gotten so much better with little bumpiness on the greens, new cups and new flags with prisms (for laser rangefinders). It is in very good condition right now!
No worries. I actually used to live right by the Bart Station then we moved over off of David. I have played Boundary Oaks a few times. Nice track, usually in decent shape.
Glad to hear that the condition is sweet. That is awesome. I used to go there and hit balls up on top of the range (where the grass is). Was my little spot to get away and hit some shots.
I am actually in Singapore right now for a little while. In fact I am going to Update my profile right now...thanks for reminding me...

I couldn't stay away forever. I thought I could...but it dragged me back.

All this coupled with the most embarrassing front 9 I've had in about 3 years yesterday makes me want to just put the clubs away for a while. But I know I will be playing again this friday because there is a slim chance everything will click and I'll actually play well
