Anyone interested in knowing the 19 players that changed to the new Titleist 712 irons this week at Aronimink can go to my recent blog post here. It lists the players, the iron model and shaft and their position after round one. One of the co-leaders is among them.

Looks as if more players opted for the CBs over the AP2 and MBs.  Only 3 of 19 players using straight MBs with one using a combo set.  Did Adam Scott still have the 710 MBs in the bag or something older?  I know he is one of those players who is very slow to switch clubs.

Scott is still using the 710 MBs. And you're right--he is normally slow to switch.

I am amazed at the mass switch to the new irons.  This is one of the bigger switch/roll outs I have seen in mid-season my a mfg and players.   I am sure they have all been doing a lot fo testing on the side, but it seems pretty sudden.

I guess Titleist did something right with these new irons to have 19 players switch at one event.

Why not? If this means that he can go for more pins/greens/carries, than why not? It could possibly spark some low scores.

The 710s are a great iron, and these don't "look" that much different.  Might be an easier switch than most.

That may be a testament to how good the current AP2's are...

Changes to the CB and MB look mostly cosmetic, no change in performance, and while the new AP2 looks very similar, it may be harder to get someone to consider changing from something already so good.

i'm sure the new mb's are only a fraction different than the 710's or the 690's of 10 years ago. same with the cb's. and i'm sure the ap2's are hardly different than the previous two generations.

either that or they could use the big pay for play bonus for putting them in play right away and getting TV exposure........

Really? Do you know they get a bonus for changing? Do you feel ANYBODY will be able to tell on TV that they have switched to the new model?

A free set to switch with dividends...hmmm yea I would switch lol!....I think more players would , but some players on tour are superstitious.....They may wait for the end of the season...Best looking irons Titleist has ever produced....Must resist!!!!!!!

same irons with different stamping on back, probably not a big change for the players.

Perhaps the new parent is willing to spend a little more to push the new hardware?

As good as the 712 line looks, It doesn't look like there's any significant difference over the 710's so it's no hardship for the players to put them straight in the bag.

Titleist will want all their staff players to use the new line before they're released to the public. It's simple marketing.

It'll be interesting to see if McIlroy has the new MB's in the bag for The Open Championship.

I know one of the players on the list and while he was encouraged to play the 710 line, there was no additional money for doing so.
