I take a decent breath, exhale and look at the hole, focusing on the distance. I only hit the putt when I'm close to running out of that same breath. It's not exactly a superstition but it makes me feel very steady through the stroke.

I do this for full swings as well...

I long plastic tees and use the same one until it breaks--sometimes several rounds.  I often have to work on straightening it and smoothing out the top so it will hold a ball.

I use the same ball until I lose it and never clean it with anything other than my hand.  No matter how brown it looks or how many scuffs it gets.

I refuse to believe that superstition can control me or my game. I joke that my golfing buddies are Stupidstitious when they refuse to play certain colored tees or balls of a particular # etc.

I mark my ball tails up if I move my mark to remind me to replace it but no superstition to it.

That's why they are called superstitions. They don't really have any affect or control over anything. We just like to believe that do.

Mine is even when playing ready golf, I never "step in front of a birdie" (get on the tee and take my shot before a guy who birdied the last one).  Stepping in front of eagle or lower would be even worse.

If anyone in the group questions this or steps in front of my birdie I make some chuckling reference to upsetting the golf gods.

If someone else steps in front of a birdie, I'll say something. If they hit anyway and its good they got lucky, if its bad I told you so.

After you make a birdie and are on the next tee box say "Did anyone make an Eagle on that last hole? No? Well then I guess I'm up first!!"

I wouldn't call it superstitious but I have a couple routines.  I like to have my pockets empty except for a tee, ballmark, and divot tool.  I guess I think it makes me swing free-er having less stuff in my pockets.  I always like to make sure I put my headcovers back on the clubs after I tee off or I'll feel like something's wrong.  I feel like something is off if I put a club back in the wrong spot too so I don't do that either.  I never get any major food at the turn like a hotdog or something.  I've got to be pretty starving to get anything and if so then it's only going to be a pack of crackers or something like that.  I feel like if I eat something heavy it might not sit right with me and affect my game.  I never play out of turn on the teebox regardless of ready golf.  In my opinion ready golf should only be agreed upon between the tee and the green.

But I have no pre-shot routine or anything like that.  Sometimes if I need to decide what to do I'll look at the hole and try to visualize it and then step up and hit it.  But most of the time I already know what I want to do so that's unneccessary.  So on those occasions I might step in with one foot, then the other, give a little half waggle and away we go.  Sometimes I make a half-assed effort of a practice swing.  Nothing concrete for sure.

Fully agree with you. Ready golf always- except for a bird.
An Ace has the honor for the rest of the round in my book.

After I shake hands with my playing partners before teeing off on the first tee, especially before a tournament, I wipe my hands with my golf towel. But that's just me...

That's quite rude and borderline insulting. Why even shake their hand then?
If you're worried about the cooties, just "give 'em a pound" instead Howie...

I don't wear Black.  I've never played very well when I wear Black. Either a shirt, hat, or pants.

If I hit a bad drive I stomp the tee into the ground.

I only wash my clubs after I have a good round, below my handicap :) its their reward I guess haha

I DO NOT clean the grips of my club the night before my round of golf. I will normally clean all my clubs the night before each round, wipe down the shafts make sure sure there is no finger prints smudges anywhere. The only time I clean the grips is before each shot.

Hey, I have that same phobia, lol....empty left pocket except for ballmark and repair tool, and headcovers on my woods.

However, I also have to have....funny, I will go into my bag for an extra ball....have to have one extra ball in my right pocket.  It's like if you leave an umbrella home, it's sure to rain, but if you carry an umbrella, it doesn't rain.  I feel if I have an extra ball in my right pocket (I'm a lefty), I won't lose the one on the tee :yahoo:

If I align the text on the golf ball (ProV1x) on a tee, it has to be right-side up, not upside down. NEVER !!!.  Same with putting, and it has to be pointing down the line.

If I'm on a driving range where the ground is wet from morning dew, I will wipe the balls off before hitting them.  (I once hit balls on a driving range that had sand strewn all over the grass as filler?....the the balls were mottled with sand, and I didn't both with them, and afterwards as I wiped my clubs when finishing on the range, the impact with sand-coated balls scratched the living hell out of my irons and driver face....never do that again.

On Par 4s and 5s if I hit a bad approach shot with an iron six or under I will usually let the club I mishit make it up for me on my chip.

It gets me lots of practice playing bump and runs with my 6 and 7 iron. Posted Image

Ihave two weird ones as well.

If I chip, pitch, flop onto a green.. I always and I mean ALWAYS lay the head of the wedge or whatever club on top of the putter headcover.

I also "un-hook" my glove strap after every single shot.

I think it is bad luck hit another person's new club before they do! I just bought a buddy of mine a new driver on the Bay and it arrived today. I was going to play today and he asked me if I was going to try it out. I want to hit that i15, but not before him, bad bad karma!!!! I always mark with a quarter and use the same divot tool, ALWAYS!!!!

So true about a new club

I clean all of my clubs after every round with a dishmatic (the dishpads with the handle)

always start a new game with clean clubs...

even if it's just a muck around.....

usually while watching the golf on TV (which is early morning in Aus)

I have to have 3 tees in my right pocket all the time. I always mark my ball with my left hand and always heads up. I also wipe my clubs off after every hit with the wet side of my towel and then the dry side.

I have a Florida Gators Titleist hat that I always wear when I golf. I get funny comments sometimes about it not matching my shirt if I am wearing something other than a blue shirt but I have to wear that hat.

Only got 2 habits :

1. Before I start my round gotta listen to Will Smith's inspirational "Seeing the Field" dialogue to Matt Damon...from the movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance"

2. Always have to have my lucky monk tag from Pyrat Rum Cask 1623
