I played New Ewa yesterday and the course was in great shape across the board. I shot a net par.  I had 28 putts. I had a couple 10 footers sink and one from about 18 to 20 feet.  It was a weired round because the more stray my drive was the better the score on the hole.  I had 3 holes that I was dead center of the fairway and shot double or triple bogeys.  Everything was really soft.

General question for group...

Besides muni's and military courses, which courses allow push/pull carts?

I know Pearl will let you walk/cart for twilight.

Thanks!

I played Koele Experience on December 2nd and 3rd. Beautiful! One of my favorite courses in Hawaii.

I know Mililani allows it for twilight, but not sure about regular times.  Their twilight starts at 12:30 though, which is pretty early.

Ricky...5.5 hours of brutal misery at Coral Creek.  :russian_roulette: We should have known on the 1st hole to just go home when one of the guys in the 4some in front hit the ball 20 yards perpendicular to the target line.   We watched them hit every duff, muff, dribble, whiff, shank for 5.5 freeeeeeking hours.  :fool:  They feel behind and the Marshals did nothing!  Remind me to put Coral Creek and double tees to the back of my need to do's for a few years!

It was the same way at Mamala Bay today. 5 hours through 16.  I had to be at work at 3 so I had to leave.  I was not playing so well, so I was glad for it to be over.

That course is in great shape.  The greens are really nice but slow compaired to Navy Marine.  It seems as if they are letting the rough grow out, well compaired to how they normally have it.  The fairways were really soft from the rain last week so I was not getting any roll.

Geez, that's brutal. I'm already too spoiled by early tee times and don't think I could do 5 hour plus rounds anymore that weren't in tournaments of some kind.

Benny,
I'm surprised Mamala Bay was so slow, isn't that unusual?

Played Pearl CC yesterday, course was in excellent shape, narrow fairways and deep rough (lost 2 balls in the rough). Greens were fast but not that firm, should be tip top for the Pearl Open .

Yes and yes. I grew up playing at Mid Pac.  I haven't played there in about three years though. Long course..when it's in good condition, the greens can be pretty quick. Of the privates on Oahu I rank it #2 after Oahu CC in my favorites.  HCC is nice.  Not the longest course but it can be tricky with all the dog legs.  The green are usually in pretty good condition with ok speed.

Played turtle bay on Monday. Fazio is rough right now plus the green have been punched.  The palmer is nice but greens are shaggy but coming around from being punched.  I also played leilehua on Tues.  Course looks good the greens are comeing around from just being redone.  They are hard as rocks right now. New sand new greens less tree and still a challenge.

I played there on Tues.  The green need a little time kind of slow but coming along.  I think once the mow them and roll them they will be great.  At this time they are really hard and a little shaggy.  Over all the course is in great shape.  I will be playing there on monday again.

It's been a while since I've posted here.  I've been playing here and there, but have gotten into some other hobbies.

Anyways, had an extended golf trip to the Big Island this past weekend.

Thursday - Makalei - Pretty nice course.  They had aerated a couple of weeks ago, so the greens were a little bumpy and you have to watch out for small rocks in the rough and bunkers.  We got a few nicks and dings in our wedges.  But for $25, it was a very good deal.  One of the guys in the group has and uncle that lives right by the course and got us the local resident rate.  The course was mostly target golf and we only hit driver a handful of times.  There were LOTS of peacocks all over the course and some of them weren't real shy either.

Friday - Mauna Lani North - Very nice resort course layout.  Not much trouble off the tee.  The greens were pretty slow, but otherwise putted well.  They have a couple of tough holes, particularly on of the par 5's on the back nine where there is a sharp dog leg left about 200 yards from the tee or you can try to cut the corner but is OB if you don't make it.  I didn't make it over a couple of times and took an 11.  Ouch.

Saturday - Waikoloa Beach and Kings - I thought the Beach was very nice and the Kings was ok.  To me, the Beach was in nicer condition than the Kings, but some of the other guys felt otherwise.  The greens were pretty tough and tough to read break.  They were MUCH faster than the Mauna Lani greens, which made for a tough transition.  There were lava fields and features EVERYWHERE.  I also hit into a bunker probably every other hole on the Beach course.  With the replay deal, it wasn't that expensive, but I don't think I would really need to play either course again.  If anything, probably the Beach course.

Sunday - Mauna Lani South - This was a very fun course.  More challenging than the North and added more lava in play.  This is one of the courses where I think you will play much better the second or third time around.  There were a lot of holes where the landing area off the tee was deceptive or an optical illusion.  Also some trouble that jutted into the fairway that you couldn't see off the tee.  Not a particularly long course.  I wasn't hitting my driver or 3 wood well at all this trip and actually ended up hitting hybrid off the tee from about the 7th hole on and didn't feel like any real disadvantage.  I actually reached two of the downwind/downhill par 5's in two with hybrid off the tee.  The ocean holes were super nice.  There weren't many groups out and since I was in the first group (two groups total) and the second group fell way behind, we were able to play both of the par 3's on the back nine from the back tees.  Those were pretty challenging with the wind.

So 5 rounds in 4 days and I think I have had enough golf for a while.  It was very fun though.  If anyone is planning a trip out to Kona for golf, I highly recommend staying at one of the vacation rentals at Mauna Lani.  They were very nice homes there and in a very convenient location!

So I played Leilehua GC yesterday without a driver.  Short story on that is I cracked my DI6s shaft at Navy marine on Thur.  Anyways, I told myself I will hit more fairways but have longer irons into the greens. I think there was only really only two holes I actually had to take several more clubs more for my approach.  # 4 and #9.  #4 I had to hit a 5 iron instead of 8 iron and on #9 I hit 3 instead of 8.

Anyways I started on #10 and started pounding low to mid cuts that rolled or just flat out high shots to ride what little wind there was at the start of the round.  I had a great score going until the guys I was playing with told me my score out loud.  Even though I knew my score, when they said it, I just lost all feel and nerves kicked in, I was going for the the 79.  I proceed to triple bogey a very easy hole #8.  I ended up shoting 83.  I had one double and one triple.  I missed so many birdie and par saving putts by inches.  I had one 3putt which was on #15. I had par on all but one par 3, the 17th(DOUBLE Fing BOGEY). Shot par on all but one par 5, #3.

I hit 11 of 14 fairways. Or the two missed, they were blocked and the 3rd (please let me forget #8 screw up).  I had 32 putts with 8 GIR.  When I missed the greens, I missed in the right spots that allowed me to get up in down or atleast walk away with only a bogey.  Durning the round it seemed as if I hit more greens, but as I think about it fringe is not the green.

They had hard pin locations.    Example #5.  maybe 2 paces on the green which was gaurded by bunks and was right on a ridge.  Or #15 back part of the green right on a ridge.  Example of how bad this pin places ment was, guy putts the ball, got right to the top of the ridge and rolled back down past him. first putt was like 25 feet the secound was 30 feet or so.

Who know maybe I really don't need a driver.  LOL, when I get home after the round I have a Fast12ls  waiting for me at the door. I can't wait for the XTD to show up (longer then the F11Ti) that they keep pushing back on me.

Even thought the score is high compaired to some on here it is really good for me on the course.  I hit the ball solid and stuck with the lesson I got last week.  Hopefully if I stay with it down the road and get a couple more my handicap will drop back down in the single digits again.

I have.  Nanea is a great course.  I am assuming you will be using a caddy as I believe that they require them normally.  You probably will get lost without a caddy.  I went out with one of the workers so we didn't use caddies, and I still almost got lost.  You'll love it.

The only suggestion that I would give you is to see if you can get an opportunity to play from the "alternate" 18th tee box.  It is a golf mat on the top of a lava hill.  You are probably about 20-30 feet higher than the regular tee box.  Not sure if they will let you up there though.  But it is a great view and an awesome tee shot.

You got invited?  You got some high dollar friends huh?  Good luck and have fun.

Nanea is my second favorite course in the state behind Hokulia.

Thanks Chad. More like I invited myself. My first choice was Kukio, since we're staying there, but I didn't do so good at the 10-hole course last time. I think I'll try Nanea before attempting Kukio's 18-hole. I heard Nanea is harder than Hoakalei. I was already aware of the mandatory caddy, as Kukio is the same way. I'll post pics!

I played honolulu CC on friday.  Looks great as always.  I hit the drive better then I have in a long time.  Only had one bad drive that got wet, reteed and pike its.  It was really windy there compaired to the last time or two I played there.  The round was slow compaired to my other rounds there.  4.5 instead on 3 to 3.5.

Know I'm trying to work some contacts to get back out on Waialae CC and maybe just maybe the Ernie Els course.

I played Waikele yesterday.  Great looking as always BUT...will the greens ever return????? $%#$%^& those greens were slow.  I play Royal Kunia regularly and think they're slow. They're lightning fast in comparison.  It's been about three years since I was last at Waikele and I hated the greens then.  I still do. I can't see how in the world do I putt a three footer like a five footer.  I think I may have passed the cup twice all day in 18 holes!  Totally irked me that I could never get used to the slowness.  Part of me didn't want to because I knew I'd be blowing it by the hole on other courses!

I played Moanalua the day before and even those greens were faster!  C'mon Waikele..get your green faster! See you in another three years!

Played Koolina today. After playing Kukio, these greens are slow. But compared to Moanalua and Waikele, they're super fast!  Very good condition and service was excellent.

I went to Kauai yesterday and played The Prince and then Poipu Bay. I shot 110 on prince and 85 at Poipu. I lost 10 balls at the prince. Both courses were in great shape, especially the prince since they are having a tournament this weekend. The prince was just a great all around experience. I think I might have to take another day trip to play them again.
